Join this course and start gaining the key data analytic skills you’ve always wanted in your tool-belt!
This course will walk you through fundamental data concepts, with practical exercises, in order to build you from an absolute beginner to a skilled user, in both analysis and visualisation, working through the examples together to give you live practice.
Upon enrolling, you’ll gain instant, lifetime access to all sections of the course for Microsoft SQL Server and Power BI, as well as the data files and scripts necessary for the exercises.
Our approach is a stepped approach, meaning that you will keep gaining more and more building blocks as you work through the lectures. This means you will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to conduct data analytics and visualise your data to a professional standard.
You’ll get access to all sections of the course that will teach you the fundamentals from the ground up, supported with over 8 hours of clear, structured content to start your data journey.
The course starts with ‘Core SQL’, where you will gain an in-depth understanding of the core functions in SQL. You will learn creating databases, to the most frequently used queries, to advanced filtering, to bucketing results:
Introduction to the SQL interface and how to navigate and import data
Understanding data types and obtaining data from tables by using the SELECT and FROM statements
Creating new tables using the INTO statement
Applying basic and complex filters on data sets by using WHILE, IN and LIKE statements
Aggregating data to create reports by using the GROUP BY statement
Understanding how to apply non-aggregation and aggregation filtering
Creating new data columns based on constraints and conditions by using the CASE statement
Appending tables using UNION and UNION ALL statements
Utilising data from different tables to create master tables by using the JOIN statement
Things to look out for when managing databases
Next you’ll learn the more advanced SQL functions and concepts in the ‘Intermediate SQL’ section of the course. This includes data conversion, data cleansing, running totals, views, variables, stored procedures, and more:
Understanding and working with NULL values by using ISNULL and COALESCE statements
Using the CAST and CONVERT statements to change data types
Applying window functions (such as RANK and ROW_NUMBER) to introduce a row count and ranking to the data
Using the PARTITION statement to split the window function operations on data (such as running totals)
Using the VIEW statement to create virtual tables and manipulate data
Understanding variables and stored procedures to make SQL code and queries more dynamic
The next (bonus!) section is a ‘SQL Query Walkthrough Guide’ – so you’ll never get lost on how to script your queries correctly!
The final section of this course covers Microsoft’s intuitive ‘Power BI’ data visualisation tool. We go into the importance of data visualisation, show how powerful it is, and build multiple dashboards to gain important data insights:
Understanding the concepts and importance of data visualisation
Understanding how to import data into Power BI directly from SQL
How to navigate through the back end of Power BI and manipulate data to satisfy our needs
How to create meaningful visualisations and dashboards which can be used to show relevant findings
Our mission at Data Civilisation is to give you the building blocks for your journey!
So what are you waiting for? Jump right in and learn about data!

It was well paced and eased you through everything. Only issue being is, the course is a bit old and things have slightly changed in PowerBi so wasn't 100% to follow but was enough to work it out.

Data Civilization - Instructor has immense knowledge on the subject who works on the people who does not have knowledge about SQL and Power BI and turns them into a professional data analyst (Ofcourse, it's for those who does not fail to practice). Remember Practice makes everyone perfect.

The SQL part is very well presented. However, the Power BI part is quite simple and will not get you far as an analyst. Working with more complex table structure, building star schemas, evaluating DAX context, time intelligence, groups, sharing reports, row-level security, parameters, etc.... would be required to build a good Power BI report.

I like this course because it's straightforward, and you earn by DOING. Although for one who is new to SQL I would recommend learning the very basics which is Create, Insert Into, Drop Table, Update and Alter Table and Delete From statements beforehand (took me 3/4 days to catch the concept) and learn Primary and Foreign Keys and what is a Relational Database. Then jump into this course it is very explanatory and leaving you with a large dataset of experimentation

I like the way the course was put together; I personally struggle with 2 minutes videos and that has made learning SQL difficult because of how they break the content down. But with this course, I was able to stay focused and pay attention without feeling the need to speed up the videos. Thank you so much, please continue to create courses in such formats.

It opened my mind to new ideas and way data can be explained to others, I really appreciated the pace and water-clear explanation. With that being said, I think there are a couple of areas of opportunity to tackle: 1- In my opinion, a more detailed explanation about every single tool inside SQL would have enriched the learning experience more, at the end of the course you still have this feeling of not understanding quite well some of the features there. 2- A practice sheet and path attachment hwould have been great to foster the learning incentive, for new user is very hard to determine how to actually practice. Overall, I learned a lot. Thanks for the effort and time invested in this course.

This course has been very helpful for the data analysts as it covers all the topics with examples. Initially I rated this course as 3 stars but by the end of the Core SQL course I have changed my mind and felt this very useful and rated it 4+. I would be happy if they explain cross join and self join as well.

The presenter is well spoken - he explains concepts well. However, there is no practise in this course for SQL. Presenter mentions that you should practise but it would be very helpful if there were assessments in each section instead of just copying and pasting pre-written scripts.

The SQL part of this course is thought very well which might help aspiring data analysts to learn easily and quickly. But the Power BI part of the course isn't that much satisfying. But okay for people to brush up about Power BI visualizations. The overall course is about what i had expected.

I really enjoy with course. It enhanced my SQL skill and solved my lot of issues regarding to SQL. Practice files are good. THE power BI section is also great. I highly recommend this course, anyone, to improve their SQL skills with a visualization tool Power BI and wants to set their a career in the field of analytics.
