Course Description

In this course I take you through the full process of Test Driven Development (TDD), starting from an overview of what TDD is and how we should use it along with progressive examples throughout the course which will get you up to speed quickly.

We cover the basic fundamentals of TDD by learning about the Red, Green, Refactor life cycle and how we can use this to help us draw out the simplest implementation of our code while giving us the confidence in our tests to refactor our codebase without breaking existing code (cause regressions).

The course aims to take complete beginners through everything thats needed in TDD from IDE setup to working through acceptance criteria exactly like you'd expect to find in a real world working environment so previous experience is not required other than a basic understanding of Java or other object oriented language.

We learn about katas and how they can dramatically help improve your Java and TDD development skills with just a little practice each day.

This course will help get you quickly up to speed in one of the most overlooked  but essential areas of Java development which features highly in job requirements and is commonly featured in first and second stage interviews.

Tony Perrin

I am an Oracle certified Java developer with around 15 years of professional Java software development experience working as a consultant mostly in financial services, trading and start up environments though Im proud to say started my programming career on a Commodore 64 back in 1982 to create games using a software package called White Lightning which was a combination of Fortran and a graphic design editor - pretty advanced for the 1980's.

I love to learn new technologies and spend a large portion of my spare time on my Mac Book Pro hooked up to a few Raspberry Pi's, or taking a deep dive in to a new framework to always be learning.

I mentor junior developers through the London Java Community's Slack program and I try to get along to tech talks and presentations whenever I can.  I'm always happy to talk and discuss tech and best practices and I'm always keen to learn more from other like minded developers.

personally, i found this course was monotone and hard to follow as the code was being written without explanation - i prefer having things explained with reasoning behind them and sometimes explaining in a couple of different ways can help understand a concept better. The author clearly had knowledge, but i felt i was not taken on the journey with him.

I would have liked to learn what exactly is red/green/refactor since that is the first time I was introduced to the term. Also, what is a katas? You kind of assumed that we already knew what those were. Other than that, I learned a few new things.

O curso é excelente! O instrutor vai nos conduzindo através de exercícios, então o aprendizado é através da prática e repetição. Eu nunca tinha usado TDD na vida e consegui entender e aprender. Muito bom e recomendo fortemente este curso.

Good intro into TDD with Java. Well explained and easy to follow with relevant examples. Might be nice to see JUnit vs TestNG, and some of the other hooks that can be used to get a better grip.

Good practice. Just wish there was more information... As a beginner I feel as though I am missing something. I am having trouble with applying to my projects.

Sehr guter Kurs, um ein solides Verständnis für TDD zu bekommen. Die Beispiele sind leicht nachzuverfolgen und sehr gut erklärt. Vielen Dank!

I think it met my expectations by not only explaining the TDD approach in Java, but giving us practical examples of how it works. I think theory and application were blended very well in this course and I'm thankful to have gone through it. I also liked how the course left us with additional resources at the end so we can further practice our TDD.

I thoroughly recommend this course. Tony is a great teacher with a vast amount of knowledge. TDD is such a key skill to learn in the Java world. Hope to see more videos in other areas in the future!

Just getting started, however content seems solid so far, clearly structured with a clear and understandable instructor who obviously knows his stuff. Recommended!

I am really enjoying the course. The structure is a perfect match for what I am looking to get from the course, and the instructions for each step are explained carefully and at a good pace. In fact, the pace of the course allows the student to keep up while absorbing the content. The instructor is clearly very experienced and is very enthusiastic about TDD. 10/10 from me!
