What you will learn
- Understand the difference between Modbus and RS485
- Modbus Protocol theory
- RS485 theory
- Modbus memory mapping
- Modbus network communication
- The essential device information required for Modbus connection
- The steps involved in the connection of devices via Modbus
Course Description
The Modbus protocol is the oldest and still by far the most popular automation protocol in the field of process automation and SCADA. Knowing how to create Modbus based networks that run on the RS485 serial communication standard is essential for any electrical technician and engineer working in these fields. Being able to integrate devices from different manufacturers is a skill that is in demand and will ultimately make you more valuable and marketable in the industry.
This course gives you the theory behind the Modbus Protocol as well as RS485. It then goes on to show you how they work together to create a Modbus RS485 network.
After completing this course, you will be able to integrate devices from the same manufacturers and different manufacturers, that are Modbus compliant, to form a complete seamless network.

I have been working in the fields of Software Development, Software Systems Integration and Process Automation since 1996. In 2003, I stepped out on my own and started working for myself providing software development and systems integration services to small and medium businesses.
Teaching has always been a passion for me. I have taught at the tertiary level for many years on the subjects of programming, control systems as well as systems integration. In the last few years I found myself incorporating more and more videos into the curriculum with amazing results.
When I heard of uDemy I just could not help but sign up. With teaching in a classroom, you can reach only so many students, but with uDemy you can reach the world! I plan to publish and promote as many courses as I possibly can on the uDemy platform.

Positive Points: ========== 1) Excellent presentation clear audio and matching slides. 2) Very well presented beginner level course and overview of Modbus 485 communication. 3) Very well spoken, with clearly spoken English, which is refreshing because his dialog is easy to follow and understand. 4) Each section includes a word document addendum to the videos, providing additional notes as for that particular video/section. Because of this extra effort by the instructor, as well as the clear articulation, I gave a rating of 5.0. Negative Points: ========== 1) This is not really a negative, but is a comment or all Udemy instructors. It would be nice to give brief notes document, summarizing each section/video, that students can refer back to. This basically remove the burden of the student having to write notes. I realize that when the student writes notes, that is also part of the learning process. But having a Notes/Summary for each section document would be fantastic.

Not bad - covered the basics well. Easy to understand and very simple graphics. Think there could be a little more detail on what type of software is used to actually program for ModBus 485

Emile, Thank you for an awesome class. I have zero understanding of Modbus before this class and it's starting to make sense now. Your explanation was very clear and direct and I like that you provided a real world case problem, which helped me understand the concept even more. I look forward to learning more about this topic in your other classes.

This is actually a decent course. Quite basic but that's the point of this course. It introduces you to Modbus RS485 and includes a practical example which you revisit multiple times. Worth spending an hour of your time if you're interested.

Good overview and a fair amount of time is spent on some very basic topics. You may want to search for a different course if you already have an engineering background and understand memory, basic serial communications, ect. Maybe the course would be better for engineers if the 'mastering' lecture was included..

Wow love the course have learnt lots & gained a lot of understanding. I work in a automation & controls environment with all kinds of instruments for monitoring & control, where you only get a look in when something goes wrong or a basic run down on whats happening from management or a contractor. Always wondered what was going on when an engineer plugs in his laptop to do some checking of the system, with no real time or even bothered to explain any issues. Well I know this is just a start but I am happy enough to have a little understanding & am excited to move on to your next course or should i say courses, keep them rolling. And thanks again

It is a basic course but I kind of expected a little more depth. The presentation is clean and concise though without difficult concepts requiring the student to go over and over the lectures. Decent value for the price I paid. Would think it is over priced at full cost.

I am a student from Germany currently working on my Bachelor Thesis for which I have to connect different Modbus devices to a controller. This course really helped me to get a basic understanding of how Modbus works! Totally reccomend it!
