Course Description
Are you done with forced smiles and poses in your portrait photography? In this class you’ll learn to look and go beyond the surface of your subjects (and yourself!) and portray who they really are.
You’ll learn to build rapport and capture their inner beauty in authentic portraits. I’ll teach you several ways to invite your subject (paying client or model) to reveal themselves as they are so you can capture their aliveness. No more fixed poses or vacant looks. No more stifling discomfort. No more uninteresting, superficial portraits.
So, this is not a technical course; it's all about the personal stuff in portrait photography. *
Skills, tips and tricks from 12 years of experience
I’ll share with you my personal toolkit. All that I’ve learned and acquired over more than 12 years of working with hundreds of people. I’ll share my client briefing and clothing tips. And many different ways to approach and work together with your subject. Some quite unusual...
Who is this course for?
This course is for professionals and aspiring photographers, hungry to go deeper than just the technically correct pretty picture.
Like: professional still life or landscape photographers aspiring to start working with people. Perhaps you’ve tried it, but can’t seem to build rapport with your clients or models? Do you or they feel awkward? Join me in this course.
The class is also for beginning photographers, who wish to portray their friends and family for fun or even start a stock photography portfolio, using regular people as their subjects.
It is not for you if...
... you're looking for a technical class (this is personal and both you and your subject must be willing to be a bit vulnerable).
... you want to be in charge all the time and think only you decide how a portrait must be taken.
... you don't like to play.
Authenticity is key. Why learn to capture it?
In a world with dozens or even hundreds of images on our retina per minute, we decide quickly who to trust, who to work with and which images to buy for our business’ communication.
As humans, we are trained to recognize what is real and what is fake. And usually we don’t like fake people.
Therefore, in our portraits, we seek to catch a person’s realness, so others can relate to what they see and trust them (your brand etc.).
If you can master authentic portraiture, you will make many people very happy: not only your subjects, but also the viewer and if applicable, the buyer of your work. Even for you, it will become so much more interesting and you’ll find that you can use the skills also in other areas of your life.
Why join?
After taking this course and doing the exercises and assignments, you will be able to apply the skills in your own photography.
You will feel a lot more confident working with people.
Your photos will be more real, more personal and simply better, because you will have learned to truly work together with your subject, rather than telling them what to do.
Your portraits will speak more and be more relatable.
See you in class!

No matter which side of the lens you are on, I help you make photography less intimidating.
Hi! I'm Lucy Lambriex from Amsterdam, a long-time portrait photographer for camera-shy people who need authentic portraits for their businesses. Since 2008, I have also been making a living with my portfolio on Getty Images.
If you are a professional or aspiring photographer who wants to start working with people but has no clue how to make your subjects feel at ease, you have come to the right place. I'm here to teach you how to build rapport with your subjects and capture their aliveness and true self.
Over the years, I've learned how photography can be used as a healing tool and a way to help ourselves work through the difficult stuff in life, like loss, lack of confidence and depression.
My approach is playful and creative and in my courses, I love to work with all the fears and discomfort related to becoming visible and learning a new skill.
The first course here on Udemy is The Authentic Portraiture Toolkit. In just an hour, you'll learn my methods and know how to toss out the awkward poses and fake smiles in your portraits.
So, let's be personal and let's get real!

This course has indeed opened a whole new world for me by looking into how to be creative and artistic with authentic portraits. It also helps me how to interact with my subjects. Very great course for those looking for capturing real-life portraits with a touch of creativity.

Very helpful, not like anything else. I'll definitely approach my subjects differently and connect at a deeper level. Quite challenging for myself too :).

This will totally change the way I work with people. I look forward to taking better portraits and connecting with people better in general. It will improve my family portraits for sure and I see now that I could play more and trust my instincts more with people in general. The course is very easy to follow and the subtle usage of music and sound is great.

It's just an hour, but the course is bursting with useful tips and stories on some aspects of portraiture that we don't usually hear about. No empty tips on posing, but she teaches how to let the subject show everything from within and how to get them there. Also, valuable stories on her mistakes.

I skipped al the assignments knowing that I would return and go through them one by one. I did it this way so as the flow wouldn't be continuously interrupted. The course flew by doing it this way and I've learnt to have a more expressive and carefree attitude with clients and how I should pose them as up until now I've tended to be quite fixed on where and how various parts of the body should appear in a photo. I'm please to have come across this course ~ Thank you Lucy.

Surprises and creative insights in each lesson, beautiful and fun ways to connect and work with clients. Tips on how to deal with our own demons and be more relaxed as a photographer. Engaging till the end. So much value for money.

It's one of the best courses I've ever taken online. What I like most is it's all very compact and packed with useful tips and tricks and examples. Can't believe how much I learned already and can't wait to put it into practice. Unfortunately I must wait because of corona, but I definitely will when this is over.

Awesome course. I’m really impressed with this course’s focus on the personable side of photography compared to the technical side.

This course is so well done. I love how it is packed with unique viewpoints, ideas and experience of this engaging teacher. Lots of very useful information is packed in short lessons. The whole course takes an hour, but I'm sure I'll have to come back and watch some of the lessons again. It's a lot of information to take in in one go.
