Our take
Based on the ratings of 5,793 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a beginner DJ course built around mixing along, not just watching. Jak Bradley supplies free downloadable tracks and over 40 guided mix tutorials, so students work with the same songs that appear on screen. The 132 lectures run about 17.7 hours and move from song structure and beat matching to basic, intermediate and advanced mixing, ending with a routine that blends eight tracks. He says he has DJed for over 10 years, with recent residencies in Crete. Anyone with a controller or other DJ gear in front of them will get the most from it.
Reviewers keep coming back to the teaching. The words that show up are calm, patient, clear and a good tempo. One beginner who knew almost nothing about beatmatching or phrasing says they felt ready to DJ a family gathering for hours afterward. Several non-native English speakers say they followed along fine, one using translated captions. Of 5,793 ratings, 4,163 are five stars and 1,323 are four. Complaints are rare. The one low rating in this sample says Rekordbox gets too little time for a newcomer using a controller.
The course was last updated in May 2026, and the newer sections on stem separation, library organizing and track prep keep it current. Only about nine hours are core mixing lessons. The rest is extras, such as hip hop mixing, finding music and building a brand, which are handy but optional. There are no quizzes or assignments, so practice depends on the student. It is a solid first DJ course for hands-on learners. Anyone who needs deep training in one specific software program should add a separate tutorial for it.
Pros
- Free downloadable tracks let students mix along with the exact songs on screen
- Reviewers describe the teaching as calm, patient and easy to follow at a good pace
- Non-native English speakers say they kept up, some using translated captions
- Newer sections on stems, library organizing and track prep, last updated May 2026
Cons
- Software coverage is thin, with one reviewer saying Rekordbox gets too little time
- No quizzes or assignments, and a controller or other gear is needed to practice
- Much of the 17.7 hours is extras such as stems, track prep and branding, not core mixing
Very well organized, great instructor, amazing value for the money
Truly beginner friendly, no experience needed, though the practice assumes a controller or other DJ gear.

Course Layout
I have carefully designed this course to take you step by step though the correct learning process in the most efficient way possible. Learning all the most important skills that you need to become DJ.
1. The Structure of Music - Without knowing how music is structured, it is not possible to DJ effectively. This is where we will create the foundation that you need to be able to DJ properly.
2. Beat Matching & Sync - This is when you get the speeds, and beats, of two tracks in time with each other, so they sound good together for the audience and are ready to mix with.
3. Basic Mixing Techniques - This is where we will start with the guided mix tutorials and learn the basics of timing and mixing two tracks together.
4. Intermediate Mixing Techniques - This is where we will introduce using the equalizers and filter dials to mix with. We will also explore different parts of the track to mix with, not just the beginning and ends of the tracks, but also the middle sections too.
5. Advanced Mixing Techniques - This is where we will introduce the how to use the hot cues, loops and FX to mix with. This is when we can get a lot more creative with our tracks and mix them in a more unique way.
6. Final DJ Routine - This is where we are going to put together a fast paced, high energy, DJ routine that consists of mixing 8 different tracks together in order, one after another, just like you would do if you were recording a DJ set for online, or DJing live. The DJ routine that we are going to do, is going to include a lot of the DJ techniques that we have covered in the course. Once you have learnt this DJ routine and can perform it well, you will definitely have the skills and knowledge to be capable of putting together your own DJ routine, and even to DJ live to an audience
7. Extra: Hip Hop and R&B Mixing Techniques - This is where we will earn the DJ techniques that are specific to mixing Hip Hop and R&B tracks. This section also includes how to mix 2 tracks that are at different speeds and different BPM's. This section is an extra section added to the course at a later date, therefore I am unable to give these tracks away for free as part of the course, however, as you will see in the course, the DJ techniques you will learn to mix Hip Hop and R&B will work on most Hip Hop and R&B tracks, so it is not necessary for you to have the same tracks as I use in the course, you will still learn how to DJ Hip Hop and R&B tracks effectively by watching these mix tutorials and following along with your own tracks.
Written Articles:
I have also included some extra written articles to help you once you have mastered the DJ techniques. These include:
Finding Music To Play - In this section I show you my best practices for finding music and keeping up to date.
DJ Equipment - In this section I tell you my recommended equioment when DJing and give my reasons why.
Building Your Brand - In this section I go though my best practices for building a DJ brand, including things such as, coming up with a DJ name, designing a DJ logo, and putting your mixes online.
This proven system is perfect for any beginner who is serious about becoming a DJ.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding DJ Course – Worth Every Minute I don't usually write reviews, but Jak Bradley genuinely deserves one. Before taking this course, I knew almost nothing about DJing. I had the equipment, but I didn't truly understand beatmatching, phrasing, EQ, looping, transitions, hot cues, filters, or how to put together a proper mix. After completing this course, I feel confident enough to DJ a family gathering for hours. What impressed me most wasn't just the information—it was the way Jak teaches. He is incredibly calm, patient, and professional. He never rushes through topics and explains every concept in a way that makes it easy to understand, even for complete beginners. You can also tell how much time and effort he invested into building this course. The custom practice tracks are one of the best features because they let you focus on learning techniques without getting overwhelmed by different songs. That attention to detail shows how much he cares about helping his students succeed instead of simply selling a course. The lessons are structured logically, with each new skill building naturally on the previous one. Instead of just telling you what to do, Jak explains why you're doing it, which helped me develop real confidence rather than simply memorizing steps. Most importantly, I finished this course feeling like I have a strong foundation to continue improving. It didn't just teach me how to press buttons—it taught me how to think like a DJ. If you're a complete beginner or someone who wants a solid, professional foundation, I highly recommend this course. It exceeded my expectations, and I genuinely appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and passion Jak put into creating it. Thank you, Jak, for creating such an outstanding course. You helped turn someone who knew nothing about DJing into someone who can confidently play for friends and family, and that's something I truly appreciate. Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Please consider creating an Advanced DJ Course—I would buy it on day one!" ⭐

Rekordbox is one of the most fundamental aspects of DJ'ing and this didn't go anywhere near deep enough to get a newcomer to understand how to use it, especially with a controller.

This course is definitely worth the value! I spend so much time on YouTube look up tutorials about how a DJ and it was really frustrating finding what techniques I need to learn to get started on the decks but jak explains everything perfectly and digestible making it easy for anyone to learn! Thanks again. I greatly appreciate this being available! Also, if I can suggest anything, I would love if you added a D&B section.

Good course, would be nice if you could add a lecture about how to play with headphones. Now because of this course, I can play a full set but it is fully prepared and I do not understand how to use a headphone during a set. Maybe also a lecture about how to go from a dj controller with 2 panels to one with four. Most people buy a 2 panels controller for home, but then if you want to play at a gig with 4 panels, how to make the transition.

It is very detailed and structured way of learning how to DJ properly. Learning the basics early on allows you to add your own flavor as you develop your skills through constant practice. Good job and thanks for bringing me back to playing music.

The instructor is very good in explaining the topics in simple ways with examples. This course covers all topics essential for DJin in current times, havely realies on using rekorebox or serato for track prepration which is a good thing for changing DJin scenarios. Thank you Jak.

To be honest , when I started this course I had no idea if I would ever be able to dj, but then slowly and gradually things started to make sense, the reason I would recommend this course is very simple, you don't show just people how to mix , you make sure that all the basics and logics behind the principle is covered and then when you start doing it and get comfortable with it , every thing just eases

Jak covers all the areas of beginner djing, tips and tricks in intricate details. He uses clear visuals and step by step guidelines in every video. This course is worth every penny!

Thank you very much for this fantastic course. Your explanations were clear, the material was well structured, and the difficulty progressed gradually. The repeated reviews really helped cement the concepts, and your professional yet simple teaching style made learning DJing easy to approach. This course provides a solid foundation — it’s not enough by itself for mastery, but it’s a great base to build on.
