The Complete Soft Skills for Techies and Coders
'Soft skills' include networking, communication and management skills.
If you want to start your own coding business, there's much more to it than the technical aspects of the job. We want to teach coders how to stand out in the tech industry and successfully start their own business.
Even if you don’t want to make your own company, this course will teach you skills that will make you invaluable wherever you work.
Marketing yourself as a coder is a strategic career plan. Learning to code is becoming as important as learning to read. The world economy has a growing software industry. You don’t need to buy expensive machinery or an office building to create the next blockbuster app or software tool.
Learning to code is not enough to start your own coding business. There is much more to it than the technical aspects of the job.
Many coders lack the essential soft skills, necessary to elevate themselves from being just another talented coder, to becoming a hugely successful coding entrepreneur - We've made this course to help the Steve Wozniaks of the world, be a little more like Steve Jobs.
Why soft skills for techies?
True, a large part of what you do as a coder is technical. But to be successful, you need to do just as much interacting with clients, other coders, stakeholders and of course, your ever growing team, as you thrive in the role of being the owner of your own coding business.
With the right soft skills, you can easily master the many challenges of starting and running a successful and highly profitable business.
1. We have a unique approach.
We based this course on proven psychological methods and on our experience in the coding industry. We’ve narrowed down the specific skills you need to get ahead, and stay ahead, as a successful coding entrepreneur.
Other soft skills courses don’t cater to the unique challenges of coding. We do.
At the end of each section, you will know how to apply soft skills to benefit yourself, your employees, and your clients, and ultimately ensuring that your business turns a huge profit.
We’re committed to updating the course in response to input from you. We want to create dynamic solutions and share knowledge with the whole student community.
2. We've got fascinating topics.
We’ve developed a curriculum of the best skills to complement you as a coder and your business. The course is comprehensive with over 145 lectures, covering the key areas designed to strengthen and develop the core of your coding business. Here's just some of the topics you can look forward to learning:
Fusing soft skills and software development
The psychology of entrepreneurship and success
Being comfortable with risk
The code of human interaction and effective communication
The art of persuasion
Expanding your imagination
Upgrading your creativity
Marketing your business and being a great self promoter
Mastering team dynamics
Hiring the right people
And unlike other psychology rich courses, we won't weigh you down with unnecessary theory that isn’t practical or relevant to you as a coder or an entrepreneur. All of the psychological principles and techniques used within the course have been carefully selected and meticulously applied to tailor fit the specific issues faced by coders and techies on a daily basis, as they navigate their business to the next level of success.
3. We will support you.
We are committed to listening to student feedback and using that information to update the course and make it as enriching and valuable as possible. If you take this course, you won't have a “fire and forget” experience. You will become part of an exclusive community of students, all personally supported, 365 days a year (yes, even on Christmas day!)
Our student support really is a quite exceptional, with students being answered personally by the course instructors, within 3 hours (depending on your time zone). There's good reason why we have so many 5 star reviews!
We'll also make sure that you stay at the top of your game by regularly updating the course material, to reflect the current trends from the tech industry and the latest developments and research from the world of psychology.
4. We use realistic examples.
We don’t believe in hypotheticals. Our course will provide you with practical examples of issues you’ll face on a day to day basis in the coding industry.
This course targets students who:
Have coding skills that are ready to sell
Want to start their own business and build a successful brand of their own as a coder
You can still benefit from this course even if you're not the exact target audience. You simply apply the information to meet your needs.
If you haven’t completed your core coding studies, this course can be done in parallel to any coding course. This course does not deal explicitly with coding itself. As well, some of the information is applicable primarily when you are working in a business or team setting.
If you aren’t starting your own business, you will still find this course useful. These skills apply even if you are working for someone else. Whether you are part of a coding team or management in client-facing position, you can benefit.

For a while, I couldn't determine if the text was read by a machine or by humans. I realized in the last chapter that it was human read. This describes the amount of engagement I got from the course compared to an audiobook. I would prefer real life humans instead of these animation characters. I get it that it is harder to record such courses, but this is why they are worth more than an audiobook. The intro and the outro music takes more than 10 seconds from each video. Given there are 150+ videos, just the intro and the outro yields almost half an hour of content. If it made me ready for the content, I would still be happy with it, but it rather served as a distraction. The content itself stays on a superficial level. The advice is good, it's compatible with common sense, and I took a few key ideas from the course. However, I would have preferred a bit more real life examples and opinions of the authors.

the content is interesting but i expected more exercises, quizzes or checkpoints. the music between videos is off putting

I'm torn on this course. I'd like to give it 5 stars. It's an ambitious course that does a really good job at getting you to ask yourself the right questions on what you need to improve upon to succeed. And it covers a LOT of ground. Where it lacks is in the details. To be fair, they touch on subjects that could be complete courses in themselves. But that is the issue I have. While I'm perfectly capable of finding resources myself for things like fixing the harsher points of my personality to become a more effective manager, it would help the course tremendously to have some in depth supplemental material or at least references to book or course recommendations by the instructors. It's worth taking, but be ready to take notes of the things you agree you need work on and follow your own path from there. One small annoyance was the format of music in - music out on every lecture. It's too loud and too long. I was constantly turning my volume down on intro and exit. Most lectures are pretty short so you deal with this often, especially using the mobile app.

The Complete Soft Skills Course for Techies and Coders by Libby Seery and John Bura is an outstandingly thorough course for all those that are interested in becoming a coder or tech entrepreneur and those that are currently looking to sharpen their skills at working in the tech industry. I went through a video game development masters course at UCF and the information that is presented here is, in my perspective, the more vital skill set that one needs to be successful. Teamwork, flexibility, perseverance, productivity, and so many more aspects that go beyond the hard skills like 3d modeling and programming are presented here. And it is these skills that will serve the student over the course of a lifetime in the industry, because where the hard skills change and adapt with technologies advancement, the human elements do not change very much. You will not regret purchasing this course if you are interested in knowing and learning the right stuff to be in the tech industry or to have a better understanding if the tech industry is right for you! Thank you Libby and John for a great course!

Unbelievable value with a ton of information. I'm not a coder or even particularly technical but the content was so relevant to me and underpinned the importance of soft skills and their vital role in the business world no matter what professions or industry someone is in. I love Libby's work and have done quite a few of her courses. She always brings something new to the table and makes you think and look at things differently. I really liked the contrast of her style of delivery vs. John's and the format the course followed. Genuinely, haven't found anything negative I could say they could improve on :)

So many useful skills packed into one course! Especially helpful for introverted entrepreneurs, when so much of business revolves around communication and making connections, which doesn't come easily to everyone. Eventually, you just can't be a one-man (or woman) show, and need to learn how to be a team player in order to succeed. I especially like the section about taking care of yourself, which is something many of us forget how to do when our job is sitting at a computer most of the day :)

This is such a great concept. Firstly, I like the way that Libby and John have different styles and they are comfortable imparting knowledge in their own ways. This is just the course we techie nerds need. I still struggle so much with the people skills side of things. Lastly, I think that cross disciplinary courses are the way of the future. As an educator I see us compartmentalize and departmentalize our course content, when in fact our students are a whole person with differing needs. These cross disciplinary approaches definitely consider the student in an holistic way, which helps the students (me in this case) work on developing many skills and on developing herself as a whole person. Congratulations John and Libby on a great course.

Libby Seery and John Bura form a powerful lecturing duo to present this invaluable course. The combination of their expertise in different fields afforded me with a broad range of tools I can use to further develop my career goals and personal growth. There are so many vital topics covered in this course for success. Definitely worth investing in. I was kept engaged as the sessions were easily understood, interactive and backed by real world examples I can apply across many work related and personal situations. I feel confident to apply the knowledge I have learned in this course when interacting with potential clients or presenting ideas in a meeting with management and co-workers. I recommend this course for anyone who wants to be "ahead of the pack". It's competitive out there in the job market and whilst technical ability and specialized knowledge ranks high, so does transferable, professional skills of communicating, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership skills, and self-care.
