Maria Guryeva runs a U.S. admissions consulting firm, and the course reads that way. It is a strategy course, not an English class. Across 89 lectures and about 10 hours, it covers the test format, then Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, with word-for-word templates for the two productive sections. Speaking and Writing take up well over half the runtime, which suits people who freeze on those tasks. The course asks for at least B1 English, and reviewers who came in with no idea how the exam works say it explains the basics well.

Students like her pace and energy. Reviewers call the explanations simple, the tips real, and the listening practice generous. One says the lectures are entertaining and notes you can speed them up if she sounds slow. The complaints are consistent too. Some lectures repeat themselves, one reviewer found her pronunciation and phrasing odd, and another wanted more exercises because a few topics have none. Older reviews say the course trailed behind format changes, and a 2026 reviewer wishes it matched the newest exam. One student finished it and still scored 70, so the templates are not magic.

I think this is a very good course and even though some people say that there has been changes in the format/structure of the test, this gives a very good idea on what is the test about, the tips and tricks and how to succeed.

I think this is a very good course and even though some people say that there has been changes in the format/structure of the test, this gives a very good idea on what is the test about, the tips and tricks and how to succeed. I think the only thing I would recommend is to make it more concise because there were some lectures that were very repetitive, but apart from that I believe this is a very good course, thank you very much!!

It's an amazing course! Lots of hints, tricks and strategies. However, it needs to be updated concerning the recent changes in TOEFL 2019 and the emergence of TOEFL Special Home Edition due to Covid-19 Pandemic. Especially reductions in the number of tasks in the speaking section must be taken into consideration in order to update this course.
