The instructor has a very soothing voice which creates a very comfortable learning environment. The way the material is presented in this class is very refreshing, authentic and inspiring. Everything is clearly laid out. This has been one of my favorite classes I've taken on Udemy so far. I highly recommend this class to anybody who would like to learn more about mindful art therapy."- Marie PiThis is a course unique on Udemy. Not because of content - many courses have'therapy' as part of the curriculum. What makes this course unique is the use of films and plays - in which the Instructor acts/writes/directs - that have been shown at festivals and/or performed in London UK, Poland, Czech Republic and at fringe festivals in the UKBy the use of theatre/film we explore the use of painting and art as a whole, in dealing with depression. BUT we also look at MANY examples of Art Therapy exercises. (170+)Main topics covered:
Art therapy and the Solar SystemDepression in ChildrenBeautiful painting (a film)Art and mindfulnessMaking artLooking at artPaintings submitted by children have been added to the film at the end, following our request for contributorsEco-therapyNumerous Art Therapy exercisesDBT - Distress Tolerance and PrayerStress reduction31 day challengeThe content is part anecdotal - using the Instructor's experience as a theatre director and actor in films - and part based on research. Published studies are referred to, in support of the points made.
So this is a course for those who are academically interested but also those who wish to try and experience how art therapy may be used to overcome depression.
Questions and discussion are encouraged. Comments on Educational Announcements are welcome...

The course content is far too good and important. It has been demonstrated in all possible ways, as through art you can work on depressive disorders, eating behavior, anxiety disorders. The approach is wonderful and to be applied to all ages and genders. It is nice to see how the work of people who have never drawn in their lives is highlighted, but it is not only focused on painting, but also on acting, writing, singing or the art preference of each individual. Chris is a multi-faceted teacher, teaching everything from business to art. Knowing and taking advantage of his teaching abilities is a privilege.
As any course, It is important to know that the consistency and the commitment are keys to aim the objective. Reading, participating, researching, practicing... Not just watch.

Thankfully, I didn't pay much money for this course as it is full of irrelevant content. The course creator states that only some parts of the course are mandatory but much of the optional content is not clearly marked as such. A lot of the art that is shown is poorly photographed and largely uncredited. The videos that I watched included lots of footage of scrolling through webpages.
If you're looking for comprehensive information about art therapy, I suggest you look elsewhere.

I bought this course a little while ago, but only started it this September - and how I regret not having started it earlier! What an absolutely treasure trove this is!
This is truly a substantive course, extremely well-done, well-researched and extensively referenced and documented. Actually, there is so much material and lectures that at first, it can feel a little bit (ok, a lot) overwhelming. Don't panic! Everything is presented clearly, in well-defined modules, easily accessed, and is design to help students get the most of the experience. There is a very active Q&A section (participation is actually part of the course) where you can engage with others in the course, find answers to questions, or ask your own, and the instructor is incredibly responsive to questions and comments.
Talking about the instructor, Chris Banks, is really exceptional on all levels. He is a skilled lecturer, extremely comfortable in front of the camera, and manages to educate and entertain at the same time. His lectures and announcements are thought-provoking and filled to the brim with informations and loads of free-ressources. Furthermore, he is really engaged with the course and with the students, a rarity these days with online classes, on this platform and elsewhere.
But beware, this is not a course that is meant to be finished quickly and this is something that require engagement. This is not the type of course where you can just mindlessly play the videos in the background, go on to the next and the next and get a completion diploma for merely having sped through the videos. But I can tell you, that from my experience with this course so far, if you really engage with the course materials and with the various challenges that the instructor puts forth in his regular announcements, you will be surprised at the ways in which this course can impact and improve your life. And that is priceless.
This course is truly, and purely, a gem.

Growing up I've always been "drawn" to the world of art. In many different forms and capacities. I've always found it to be therapeutic but never thought anything more of it. Within the past year I've been researching art therapy and all it entails. I came across a few courses that seemed to have the information that I may need or be interested in. Then I found this gem! This course is full of information, resources and activities that can be essential to the therapeutic aspects of art. I'm thoroughly enjoying this course and everything that comes with it. I've done more than a few exercises already and the only way to truly appreciate what Instructor Chris is offering is to actually complete them. Completing the exercises, assignments and research activities will help to liberate you!! I'm not done with this course yet but I can truly say that I am happy I chose this course. You'd be too. (That's if you actually want to do some work).

Just a long hoax, he is not a practitioner, not a therapist, it is not from Oxford University (he says so himself) only put it in the title for his benefit . Just an excuse to showcase and explain his plays and films which are pretty clear in themselves. He doesn't say anything useful at all about therapy, if he does then he is just quoting what actual therapists say about it in no actual frame, repetitive, no actual reference to understanding the art formed during therapy, many sections are unnecessary. Do not buy. Asked for a refund, but udemy says I watched too much, I was simply trying to find any substantial content to give it a chance , but to no avail. Awful. Do not be blinded by the long content and sophisticated episode names. It is clear he understands none of it and is just creating content for money. Would not be surprised if the titles were a rip off from some actual course.

This is my first course on Udemy and I like it so much! It is very exciting, interesting and Chris is a very good instructor with outstanding acting skills, calm voice, understanaldable speach even for those whose english is not a native language. I started this course 2 months ago, I take it slowly, step by step and even returning back to lectures again or watch the videos more times because to tell the truth there are a lot to do (watch, read, understand), with lots of interesting tasks, links, sources, short films, skits, lectures, workbooks and many many more! So you will not be able to make all of this in just one day nor in a week! Take your time and watch, learn, enjoy this course! :)

I've only experienced a few minutes so far, but I agree, people ask the same question over and over. There's always one that keeps the class held up for one more question, that's already been answered.

By Roy David on 10/23/2020

The course is informative. The explanation given by the tutor is clear and the speech along with accent is understandable.

By Jen Alphen on 10/20/2020

Im amazed at the quality of communication and the depth of the lectures as well as variety and relevance of subject material. Everyday I learn some new way of seeing art and art therapy which encourages a venture into what we need for a balanced life, and ultimately becomes a lifestyle choice. If I were to teach an art class using art as therapy or for stress management, loss or depression, or art for its own sake ( with lots of benefits) I would make use of some of the ideas I have been shown by Chris and some of the links in this course as well.

I do like this course.
The teacher Chris encourages everyone to participate.
It almost feels like you are part of a group, a community.
People asking, participating, then you really get the sense of worthy, valuable, learning!
The opportunity to learn from other esperiences and arts!! The information that's share, the teacher ways of guiding the lectures, the exemples through his theatre job, its really practical! I hope you enjoy enrolling this course as much as I do. And be aware, you really have to work and put a bit of yourself in it! there are so many tools you can learn from! so, jump in and go deep to the art therapy experience!
The only thing is (and thats maybe because I'm not a teen) I have many things troughout the day. I love lerning and studying is a passion. I have organized big events that I'm so proud (about myself) to acomplished because living in different countries every year is a real challege, and sometimes people around you think you can't really do much! And I show them its possible to do what you want and when you are commited. Saying this, maybe is really (for me) that finding out there are new lectures when the course already got lots (more than 300 lectures) already with lots of amazing activities to develop, it feels for me, that I won't never end it! hahaha. But as I said, it's my lifestyle, and previous engagements that I have to go slowly.
Otherwise, I love all about it:
* lectures
* links
* Educational Annoucements
* Workbooks
* exemples
* Activities
* The teacher as a person (because he's always there to answer questions and to encourage you to go on!) And as a teacher: he got a very good way to take you through the topics, good information and knowledge.
And advise: take your time to develop this course, focous just in one course at the time so you can really go deep, learn, and apreciate all the amazing resources you have in here!

By Maggie Ostle on 10/16/2020

I found that the lecturer was very much in awe of his own voice, way too much of him being an actor and not enough actual information about Art Therapy. I learned very little that I didn't know, but what I did learn I am grateful for. The best part of the course was when he wasn't speaking.

By Avantika Mane on 10/9/2020

I love how there is a focus towards making it an interactive course.
