Bernard Golden's course is a 27-hour, 160-lecture walk through the AWS services behind the Solutions Architect Associate exam. It runs from S3 and IAM through EC2, Route 53, databases and VPC, then adds a fault-tolerant WordPress build and a Well-Architected section. About 10,800 students have taken it, and it holds a 4.6 rating from 1,626 reviews. The listing says beginners are welcome, but the requirements ask for a developer or sysadmin background, and that is the safer reading.

Reviewers like how slowly and clearly Golden speaks, and the exam tips in each section. One calls it thorough without being overwhelming. The complaints are consistent too. The slides lean on Amazon's own definitions, audio levels jump around, and one reviewer felt there was no real lesson plan behind the slides. One says the second half has few practice activities, and another wanted more exams. A lower-rated review says video titles such as the NAT and Bastion one are too vague to follow.

Age is the biggest problem. The last update was February 2019, and reviewers writing in 2020 say it needs a refresh. One points out that the Lambda time limit is listed as five minutes when it is now fifteen. Another says the RDS lab no longer matches the console. Treat it as a solid concept primer, then check the current exam guide and add practice tests from somewhere else before you sit the exam.

Great, very thorough

It started out good but as we dive deeper into more sophisticated topics, the quality starts to drop. There were missing logical gaps in some of the examples and often the title of each video is so general that its useless.
For example for the NAT/Bastion video, Part one was addressing ENI but there was no indicator anywhere. While ENI is a form of NAT, it will be ALOT more helpful if he add it in the title. The only hint that I got that this was an ENI example was at the very end when the route table specified it in the ID. Had to google what was the differences myself.
If I have to google that much and read AWS documentation that much just to figure out what this is saying, I dont need this course

So far, this is significantly better than A Cloud Guru. However, there is still some room for improvement. I need some more explanations, since this is all way over my head.

I believe it does set out the course very well. As a student, I am able to decide either to continue or to drop the course because I have not a clear view of what I am either setting out to learn or I can realise that it is not what I want to learn or expected to learn. Thank you
