  • WPF Architecture & Philosophy: Understand the "why" behind WPF's power, its rendering pipeline (DirectX-based), the element tree, and its separation of concerns, which promotes cleaner, more maintainable code.

  • Layouts & Panels (StackPanel, Grid, DockPanel, WrapPanel, Canvas): Master the art of structuring intuitive, adaptive, and responsive user interfaces. Learn how to choose the right panel for the job and combine them effectively for complex layouts that look great on any screen size.

  • Essential Content & Item Controls (Buttons, TextBoxes, Labels, ListBox, ComboBox, DataGrid): Learn to effectively manage, present, and interact with data. Understand their properties, events, and common use cases in application development.

  • Styling & Theming (Styles, Triggers, Control Templates, Resources): Give your applications a distinct, consistent, and professional polish. Discover how to create reusable styles, apply themes, and even completely customize the look and feel of standard controls to match your brand or vision.

Through a series of engaging hands-on projects, you'll construct a functional sample application from the ground up, applying learned concepts and witnessing your skills and confidence grow with each completed module. This practical application reinforces theory and prepares you for real-world development tasks.

I'm more than a bit surprised that this 8-year old course is still one of the first to come up for WPF in Udemy, using Visual Studio 2015. We're at Visual Studio 2022, and I believe the course is due for updating.

By Rush Ford on 12/28/2023

Covers the fundamentals but sometimes spends way too much time in blend. For example for datatemplates about half of it was messing around in blend trying to style the button instead of simply explaining the xaml e.g. what is contentpresenter, where does it come from why is it needed etc. Overall it's better than most of the WPF courses out there if you want an understanding of WPF but still lacking and old.

By Craig Barrett on 6/16/2023

The name of this course is really inappropriate. What this course is is a basic introduction to WPF. It's not even close to an ultimate WPF course. If you are a WPF beginner, or coming back to WPF after several years, as I am, the course is not worthless. But, especially if you are a beginner, be aware that a lot of what is taught in this course will have to be unlearned if you intend to use WPF in any professional setting, including in apps you wish to write for yourself and release to the general public. It is also important that you're aware that this course is very outdated in general now. The course claims to have been updated in 2023, but this is clearly false. Everything in the course dates back to at 2016 at the latest, since it is all done with Visual Studio 2015 and similarly old packages. The worst thing about the course is that MVVM is completely ignored, except for one text slide giving a vague description of MVVM. Given that MVVM has been the standard approach to building WPF applications since long before this course was create, it's really bad that there is no coverage of it. It's especially bad since no professional use of WPF happens that does not use MVVM (yes, I'm sure there are developers who ignore MVVM, but professionals write code that is maintainable, testable, extendable, etc.). There is no valid case for "the idea is to keep things simple" because, in most cases, MVVM does not make things much more complicated. While one could argue that things that are purely about the view are fine in the XAML and code-behind (since together they constitute the view), anything involving data and anything else that is not the view, has no business being there in any application developed since the creation of MVC. It is particularly bad that the last couple of sections of the course do not demonstrate using MVVM since the material is close to worthless without it. The course has other issues. The weird claim that styles are like using HTML and CSS. They're vaguely alike, but HTML and CSS are hugely more powerful and flexible. The lack of coverage of value converters is also bad. These are commonly used and leaving them out completely (no, a brief mention is not sufficient to count as inclusion) is another major problem. Dependency properties are also just very lightly touched on. The first part of the data binding section is fine. But the last sections are essentially pointless. Pointing the data context at the window itself is bad practice and is so trivial that the last videos just contain no useful information. Triggers are a complex area of WPF and the light treatment they get leaves out so much. For instance, there are properties on Triggers that only make sense in certain circumstances. The section on dialogs, is also close to pointless, since no one would develop an application that uses dialogs in that way. Finally, there are a fair number of, "If you want to know more, look elsewhere," statements in the videos. But nowhere is there any mention of what are good sources, or things to try. Other courses tend to give specific challenges, suggestions, or places that provide useful information. Overall, this course is very disappointing and anyone wanting to learn WPF will likely do better considering one of the more recent ones that use structural approaches that came into being after the 1990s.

Even though this course is for Visual Studio 2015-WPF, it is still very relevant. It gave me a serious understanding of the WPF-foundation, its structure, basic elements, the way it works. And this knowledge works just as well in the latest Visual Studio. My only complaint is that Mark has not released any other courses, as he is now one of my favorites. Nice voice, good diction, easy to understand. The buildup is good, examples are to the point, no excessive onscreen typing and unnecessary fluff. All chapters have a clear focus and it is easy to look something up. All in all: excellent course if you are new to WPF.

Just started this course. Very clear instructor. Breaks things down clearly and makes it understandable. I'm the type of person that loves to know the "how" and "why". This can be annoying to others, but by me getting into the how and why it just further cements my knowledge and understanding. Great teacher so far.

Excellent Course. I am an experienced web designer - and I can tell you that I am impressed by the explanations that this instructor has done. He is thorough and I can see a high level of professionalism in his approach. As I am taking his class, I feel as if I am in a boot camp, with all other attendees. I am also impressed with the level of practicality- here there is no "technobabble", everything is explained in a language you will understand, then you can practise!

Fantastic course. Incredible value for the price. I think the instructor covers and explains the necessary topics in the right depth, the explanations of the materials are also very 'digestible'. Highly recommended for people who are starting in the world of Windows Presentation Foundation.

By James Sanders on 8/3/2021

Great in-depth Windows Presentation Foundation course. Clear and concise. I really like the to the point explanation for each topic, it makes me understand the brief concepts but still leave some space for me to explore it myself. Things are taught with so much easy and fun that learning stuff was so much fun. I would totally recommend this course to anyone!

By Robert Cullens on 8/3/2021

This was one of the best courses I've ever taken on Udemy. A lot of information here to absorb and practice. Builds from basic to more complex. Well worth the time and effort. The instructor is very clear and concise in explaining and showing good examples that will help to learn and understand more about WPF. The instructor makes it a point to discuss potential errors that may occur which I find very useful. The material was comprehensive and well-presented. But more than that, I valued the little personal moments the instructor shared. It made me feel connected to the lecturer as if he were teaching me in real life. I'd recommend this course for anybody wanting to learn Windows Presentation Foundation.

It is a great course which provides all basic understanding required to get started with windows presentation foundation. Instructor is amazing with all the explanation provided along with presentation material which is quite handy to review all the concepts whenever needed. This course is must for anyone trying to dive in for windows presentation foundation, also for people who are willing to get familiar with the topic.
