With over 3 hours of lessons intuitively organized into 120 individual bite-sized lectures, you will learn everything you need to know about the camera, giving you the confidence you need to use the camera with ease in any situation.

We will cover the following topics in this course:

  • Crash course in basic photography theory focusing on using aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to obtain proper exposure.
  • Camera body and button functions including the mode dial, pinwheel, and hidden record button.
  • Camera settings including high ISO noise reduction, dynamic range optimization, and the soft skin effect.
  • Custom settings including Pre-auto focus, e-front curtain shutter, and superior automatic image extraction.
  • Wireless settings best practices
  • Applications
  • Playback considerations
  • Setup procedures including cleaning mode, USB LUN setting, and recovering image from the database.
  • Field tips including filmmakers' setup, how to read a histogram, and making the transition from photo to video.

A knowledge of basic photography principals is great to have, but not absolutely necessary to taking this course. It is important to note that this class is specific to the Sony Alpha cameras. It was originally created for the a6000 but all content applies to the a6300 and a6500 as well.

For the sale price this is actually acceptable, but be aware that apart from the bonus color correction bit at the end which is only for videographers, this is a guy sitting in front of a camera just talking about the settings on the menu. There are essentially NO examples of what they do so you need to have some imagination or know something about photography to understand what he's talking about a lot of the time. Definitely would NOT be worth full price, and honestly you can find just about as good menu run-throughs on YouTube.

I have the camera and have already played with it so I was already familiar with the very basic introduction. It was helpful for me to have the instructor walk-through different options. In some cases, he seemed to be learning as he went along - but the many camera options are confusing and his review helped me understand better the potential pros/cons of different settings.

By Dcmurphy on 1/16/2020

1) Have getting images from the camera (e.g. wireless) very early; one of the first things people will want to know is "How do I get the photos?" 2) Following a general introduction to the camera, consider organizing into sections based on personas (i.e., type of user): what the beginner needs to know (settings relevant to auto, battery, charging, card, changing lenses, etc., how not to break it): user who wants to advance beyond auto (e.g., shutter and aperture priority, including relevant settings); and manual (relevant settings), video (including relevant settings). 2) The course could be substantially enhanced if the instructor shows stills that demonstrate the consequences of settings (e.g., ISO, shutter speed, focus zone, depth of field).

This course is a detailed explanation of all the menu items in the A6000. At the end, customization is your choice. I am more confident on what the all the options are for my Sony A6000 camera. Thanks.

This course was great! I have a book that tells me all about the menu settings, etc., but this course gave me better instruction and a lot of advice on where to put the settings. I highly recommend this course.

By Rachid on 11/15/2018

This cours was great to explan the foundation of this camera, but I think the instructor should dig to the manual setting rather to mention all automatic setting. also one this is really missing is how to set up a manual white balance on different situation of shooting and specially on video shooting.

By Zenola Blue on 1/6/2018

This is a great course. It really brought more understanding in how to operate this camera. I am so glad he is going through each function of the camera and explaining the menu on each tab. So far so good!!!!

By Marc Dumont on 11/25/2017

Very good course, I have learned some functions. This video is realy oriented on Sony A6000. All A6300 and A6500 functions are not specified in this video for example: 4K format, external microphone, picture profiles and other functions related to A6300 and A6500. Could be a good enhancement. But I realy liked this video. Thank you !

By Grant Alger on 7/28/2017

It was a pretty basic view of the camera and its settings. It just goes through each of the camera's settings, what each does and recommended choices. (Prior to buying the A6000, I was using a point and shoot). I would like to have seen more direct examples of how the camera worked in practice (outside the studio) and how to best use some of the main features of the camera (i.e. how the Panorama setting actually works). More tips such as you need to use a SDXC 64 memory card if you want to use XAVC S format. In 1 or 2 chapters the sound was off and sounded like it was coming through the camera mike as opposed to a lapel mike.

By Robert L. Bonner on 3/21/2017

Gave me a quick overview in realistic terms. This has been a great course to learn and understand my camera. This should be done for all cameras for the beginner photographer. I would like to see a more detailed explanation for the key factors i creation the best photograph. Thank you for removing my fears of all the A6000 has to offer.
