Video Editing Masterclass: Edit Your Videos Like a Pro! (Udemy.com)

My experience with this course was very positive. It was a great match for me because I wanted to improve my video editing skills and learn a more professional editing workflow. The course provided high-quality raw footage, which gave me the opportunity to work on a real-world editing project instead of just following tutorials. I especially enjoyed the hands-on approach. Editing the promo video from start to finish helped me improve my storytelling, pacing, transitions, color grading, and overall confidence as a video editor. Julian Melanson explained the concepts clearly and shared practical techniques that I can apply to future projects. Overall, I found the course valuable and would recommend it to anyone looking to strengthen their video editing skills through practical experience.

Julian gives brilliant tips and ideas that can be used across all editing software. What I really don't like is the fact that the course mentions "Beginner's Step-by-Step Guide" while actually being intermediate to advanced. He speaks as if many things are already expected to be known. On top of this, he encourages to use your own footage: while it isn't necessarily a bad thing, many people including myself do not have many clips to work with. It would have been nice to at least have his same clips to be able to work with him. In overall the tips and suggestions are good but it's quite difficult for people with little experience.

This course was really boring. What does it even mean? The instructor’s explanations were nonsense, and his editing looked unprofessional. I don’t recommend this course, especially for beginners like me. I was completely confused, and it felt like a waste of money. He doesn’t teach step-by-step and lacks a clear workflow. In some of his other videos, he jumps around a lot at the start, and even if you follow along, you can’t replicate what he does because he doesn’t provide the footage he uses. While he does give some resources, the ideal approach for beginners would be an instructor who shows exactly what they’re doing so we can copy and understand—why they cut certain parts, why they add music here, why they use zoom effects, etc.

I enrolled in this course because I want to be a YouTuber, and honestly, my videos sucked in quality. This was a reality check, as I thought creating videos was easy when I was just a viewer and ignorant of how much work was done in just ten seconds of a clip. So, as I said, this course was what I needed, as I am not a total beginner but not that far from that level, so this course helped me understand when and where to cut and how and what to show to your viewers (and most of them were intuitive, but I think I kind of grasped it). The instructor was good at explaining the things, as most of the editing after the basics seemed to be intuitive, but still, he explained in a way that was easier to understand, even for a person like me for whom English is a second language. The only con I would say in this course was that it is better to use Premiere Pro as editing software or that finding a similar feature in your editing software takes some time, and in some cases, it might not be up to par with Premiere Pro. You can tell from the course designed and taught by this instructor that he has a lot of in-field experience, as he was throwing nuggets of practical information for the benefit of students. All in all, this course is good for beginner editors and intermediate-level editors (I hope, since I am not). I recommend this course to anyone interested in editing videos. Thanks, bye.

I guess I will learn a lot, but as I know from Julian, he doesn't make "courses on a plate". That would be boring, right? From the filmmaking course I followed with Julian, I know he is very excited about filmmaking and editing. It promises a lot. Though I would like to learn more about cinematic film making and editing, I think the basics of either cinematic or online film editing will be similar. We'll see. But yeah, I enjoy. Now I am halfway, I think this course is not really for me, it is more about videos and Youtube in stead of editing movies, what would be actually the same. On the other hand, I am watching and I think that I'm not even that bad in editing. On the positive point, I get many ideas to improve my technics, thanks Julian. So in reality it is no waste of time. Also I would use other software, and do some things different. But hey, being original is the trick in this world. Copying someone else is no art! I will give more stars.

Julian's video editing masterclass has been an incredible journey of learning for me over the past couple of weeks. His teachings have not only met but exceeded my expectations. What's truly great about Julian's class is that it goes beyond just software tutorials. Instead, he focuses on teaching the mindset and core concepts of video editing. If you're after software-specific guidance, this might not be your best fit. But if you want to understand how to think like a video editor, this class is spot on. You can see the effort Julian has poured into this course, making it really high-quality. It's surprising that this course doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

I don't use the same program that Mr. Melanson uses to edit, however what he teaches in the class truly carries over to other editing software you might pick up. His infectious energy is rivaled only by his spirit as an instructor. As you move through each section of the course I believe you'll really get the vibe that he's eager to share all that he knows with you and that he goes above and beyond to do so. If you need an upbeat delivery to get yourself to learn new techniques or to jump the seemingly complex hurdle of learning how to edit for a beginner, I think you'll be very satisfied with this course and the variety of projects he exposes you to. If I had to pick the one thing I enjoyed most, I think that his tips on audio/visual flow in particular were extremely enlightening for me. Teachers who not only know their stuff, know how to convey it so that it's easily understood, and who also entertain through their teaching can be hard to find. Thank you so very much for your informative course Mr. Melanson, the world is blessed to have teachers like you.

This course is jam PACKED with information. I can’t believe such amazing courses have existed for so long and I haven’t gotten my grubby hands on this course and your cinematography course sooner. I just wish my 13 year old self could remember more than half the information in both of these courses. The third watch through hopefully will have the information burned in my skull as these courses are quite long!!! But I would truly recommend these courses to any avid filmmaker in need of help or just looking to make more professional content!

I'm so happy to have enrolled in this amazing course. The lessons are so well organized and the teacher Julian is great, he explains everything so well, and also he will answer your questions and he will give you feedback on your assignment. The great thing about this course is that you will learn the principles of video editing (from beginner to advanced), regardless of what software you're using, Julian will use Premiere and I was using Davinci Resolve and I was able to follow along perfectly. I highly recommend this course, you will learn so much!

Wow! Wow! Wow! I honestly don't think you'll find a better teacher out there for creating digital videos, especially in a more "modern" style. What I really love about this course is all the different styles you learn, from music videos, to personal Gram videos, to elegant ads- it's all here. All tutorials are thorough, giving you a real time view of the edits Julian does to create the finished product, and when you see each one, it's awe inspiring. Gave me great ideas for how to do the edits for my own videos, and I finally feel ready (and excited!) to get started. Thanks Julian for being so generous with your knowledge and skills
