Larry Karnis teaches an introductory course on VMware vSphere 6.0, and the scope is narrow on purpose. It covers installing ESXi, virtual and physical networking, NFS storage, and creating and cloning virtual machines. The syllabus shows about 8.9 hours across 170 lectures, and the ESXi install and configuration section alone is 66 of them. It is Part 1 of a longer series, so it stops after those four topics.

Reviewers like the structure. One says the theory lectures with screenshots made the menus familiar by the time the hands-on videos arrived, and several call it a good start for an absolute beginner. One reviewer credits Karnis with tips about what to watch out for. The complaints are mild. He sometimes talks at length over a nearly empty slide, which makes note taking tedious, and one reviewer found the delivery a bit dry. Another wanted scenarios built step by step instead of theory first. One reviewer missed distributed switches and SAN block storage.

The last update was April 2018 and it teaches version 6.0, so menus and features will differ from current releases. Still, it holds a 4.7 rating from 4,409 reviews and about 18,400 students, and roughly 86 percent of ratings are four or five stars. Take it if your shop runs 6.0 or you want the core ideas in plain order. If you need a newer release, the 6.5 and 7 courses listed beside it are the better pick.

The course content was very thorough and I am confident in putting what I learned to practice! My only recommendation is...at times throughout the lectures, Larry seemed to talk forever about a specific subject/topic, but only had a few things listed on the slide deck. In turn, that made it very tedious to take down notes with not much to go off of.

This course contains really a good amount of content which covers the basics of VMWare in a structured manner by discussing the theoretical content with the screenshots, which was actually helpful while seeing the practical videos at the end of the each section. It helped me to figure out what the menus, its options as it was previously covered in theoretical videos. It's a well structured course and I recommend it for the ones who's an absolute beginner who wants to get started with VMWare.

After studied this course, I have been able to create VMs and connect them to the network for production use without any problems. This is the best outcome from learning. I'm not new to VMWare and virtualization, and I use it in my job almost daily. Nonetheless, I appreciated the course for outlining the things that I generally have already learned in an simple, easy to comprehend manner. So much knowledge in IT is "picked up"; but with Larry's courses you can be sure that what you learn is thorough, correct, and useful. It's nice to take a proper course and nail it all down.

This course is excellent. It is very detailed but provides the information in a very logical and easy to understand way. The pace of the course is very good as well; allowing the student to digest the content in bite size chunks and effectively progress through the material.

Course was very useful. It might be a good idea to have a few versions: 1. No lab. All lecture/slides. 2. esxlab rental. Lecture/slides plus step by step lab exercises based on lab rental. 3. other lab facility. Lecture/slides plus step by step lab exercises based on generalized lab.
