Course Description

Understanding tone can be one of the most difficult concepts to understand when painting in watercolours.

But it is also the most rewarding skill to learn to produce high quality art.

If you are one of those artists who’s artwork sometimes appears to be faded and you have always wander how you could improve your painting skills, this course is for you.

I’ve invested years in learning the fundamentals behind watercolour art. When you learn and paint with me, you’ll become a better artist and improve your own signature style.

So I made it a point in this course to really concentrate on tonal values and how to judge tone.

I am a watercolorist and an Art Instructor. I love watercolours because of the transparency and luminosity I can achieve with them.  When I paint, I am interested in painting shapes, colours, lines, and mood rather than painting the subject. My work is known for my Loose expressive painting style.

I have been painting for almost 20 years and some of my artwork are in private collections in the USA, UK, Canada, Belgium, Portugal, and South Africa. I am a member of The International Watercolor Society South Africa (IWSSA). I do not have all the answers but can show you my way of painting to create freedom , expression, and vitality with my watercolours.

Hi Arie, your method of teaching really suits me. I have learnt more about tone in this class than anywhere else. Thanks so much for that. Steph, Australia.

An excellent course on using tones in painting. The teaching was clear and well demonstrated. His loose style of painting with watercolor is beautiful and I really appreciated seeing his process. Highly recommend.

I think it is well explained but was hoping it would be a little more step by step process. I think/hope there will be more of that later on in the course as that is what I understood in the preview video.

Loved watching him paint. Great info on tone, learned lots about water control watching him paint. Really wish I was able to see his pallet and water for better understanding. Overall an inspirational course

Great lesson. I wish he would have included more on setup and not sped through the painting. Less editing allows us to paint along and see exactly how he painting.

Enjoy this course is well explained, interesting, professional watercolorist. Not for beginner, but with someone with intermediate experience. Boots ,scavenger both examples beautiful, but to advance. I did get the ideas he wanted to communicate, he explained it clearly, very pleasant teacher. Thanks

I am an intermediate watercolor artist, but this course is a game changer! Great information that I will certainly apply to all of my paintings. I have found that sometimes my paintings can lack depth, and I now believe that tone is why! I am excited to apply new my knowledge.

By Patrick Garry on 11/25/2020

He provides very specific instruction on tonal value, as well as assigning basic tasks for practice, and for setting and planning your painting before beginning. His style is beautiful, which is a bonus.

By Angela Tesfay Murgano on 10/3/2020

It is a very clear and understandable lesson. I am sure I learned a lot and am going to use it in my paintings.
