Course Description
Welcome to an excellent automation testing tutorial for beginners.
What is WinAppDriver? Windows Application Driver (WinAppDriver) is a free test automation tool for testing Windows applications. Appium library uses WinAppDriver to perform automated operations on Windows desktop UI. Microsoft uses WinAppDriver for desktop application automation and functional software testing. This course is a WinAppDriver tutorial designed for everybody. Appium WinApp Driver is a free tool that provides APIs for many programming languages, including C# Dot Net, Java, and Python. The WinAppDriver is based on Appium, which was created by Selenium. Hence it is an industry-standard automation testing tool. Appium WinAppDriver is entirely compliant with WebDriver specifications(since it is based on Appium). Power Automate Desktop is not needed for Windows Application Driver test automation. Please note that WinAppDriver differs from AutoIt, and we don't need any familiarity with tools like AutoIt, Power Automate Desktop, PyWinAuto, or Robot Framework.
WinAppDriver UI Recorder Download and Usage is also explained completely in this course.
Automated testing is very helpful for software testing teams. Automated testing makes your software development lifecycle (SDLC) agile and quick.
If you're searching for a web app driver, please note that WinAppDriver is a different topic, and the web application driver is also another. Mostly it is Chrome Driver or Firefox Driver.
Windows Automation and Desktop Automation are at the heart of this course. In this course, you will learn about the free Windows application testing tool WinAppDriver and how to do Automation using WinAppDriver. You will also get example source code and step-by-step test automation examples. This course is about Appium WinAppDriver Windows Desktop UI Automation Testing in C# DotNet.
Automated testing is the way to go regarding desktop testing on Windows. Two popular tools for this are WinAppDriver and Appium. WinAppDriver is a Windows Application Driver that supports Selenium-like UI testing of Windows desktop applications. Appium, on the other hand, is a cross-platform mobile app automation tool that can also be used for desktop testing. WinAppDriver and Appium offer a powerful combination for automated desktop testing on Windows. These tools allow you to test your desktop applications for functionality, performance, and compatibility across different Windows versions and configurations. The best part is that you can automate the entire testing process, which saves you time and ensures consistent results.
WinAppDriver provides the following things to facilitate Automated Testing:
WinAppDriver is the software that can receive Appium commands and act as a UI remote control. WinAppDriver can perform different actions on the UI of a given Windows application for automation testing. It is possible to use WinAppDriver from any programming language, including but not limited to C#, Java, C++, JavaScript, and Python.
WinAppDriver UI Recorder is a lightweight UI inspection tool that allows you to find various properties of Windows UI elements.
API support for various programming languages, including C Sharp (C#), Java, Python, and many more, is available.
Many students of this course have used it to learn Windows UI Automation concepts and perform in Python and Java automation. In addition, they found it to be a great WinAppDriver tutorial series.
This course is a complete answer to your Windows automated software testing questions. In this course, I will show you how to get started using Appium WinAppDriver in C# and how to go full-throttle test automation quickly.
Note: Appium was created based on WebDriver, which is also the basis of Selenium; this way, if you start from Appium/WinAppDriver, you can quickly move forward to Selenium-based UI testing. Although, you will need to understand how DOM-based HTML websites work.
The best part is that this course is in C# Dot Net, and I will show you the techniques that work instead of typical open-source trial and error. For example, Appium-based Windows Application Driver (WinAppDriver) is a course for QA persons by QA persons.
Appium is very popular in the automated tester community for mobile Automation. Appium for iOS and Android is already out there; Microsoft has joined the bandwagon by providing the necessary tooling to bring Windows application testing into the Appium world.
I'll show you how to automate the testing of legacy Win32 Applications, deal with Unified Windows Platform (UWP) applications, and address its challenge to identify UI elements in C# (C Sharp) with WinAppDriver.
The first section covers tool installation in detail, and I'll show you how to download and install everything you need for test automation win WinAppDriver. This will include Visual Studio Community Edition, Node.js, Appium, and WinAppDriver.
Section 2 introduces the Windows Application Driver (WAD) UI Recorder. Once the tools are installed, you'll set up your first UI Automation solution in C# .Net and add Appium WinAppDriver. Next, you'll write your first test automation program using C# (C Sharp) and Appium WinAppDriver in the next 5 minutes. Finally, I'll show you how to take a screenshot using Appium WinAppDriver from C# code, read a Windows Win32 application title, maximize a window, and quit an application started by Appium WinAppDriver test automation scripts.
In section 2, I'll show you how to perform UI Automation operations such as mouse clicking and typing with the keyboard (SendKeys). Then, you'll learn how to use Selenium implicit wait using C# in Appium/WinAppDriver scenarios.
Appium Desktop Client is also covered; I will show you how to create a custom session in Appium Desktop Client to inspect elements of a Windows application through Windows Application Driver(WinAppDriver or WAD). You will also learn how to check the XML tree representing the UI elements of an application using Appium for test automation scripts.

I'm a Senior Test Automation Engineer and Lead SDET with 10+ years of experience building enterprise-grade automation frameworks across web, API, and desktop applications. I specialize in Playwright, Selenium, and FlaUI — and I'm one of a small number of SDETs actively using AI agents and LLM-driven tooling in production.
Today I use AI to lead automation testing on a flagship retail finance platform. I've built a CLI tool that exposes the UI element tree of legacy Windows applications to agentic AI (Claude Code, Codex), letting it generate accurate Page Object Model code automatically — cutting script delivery time by over 40%. I've ported legacy TestComplete suites to modern stacks (Playwright/TypeScript, C#/NUnit/FlaUI/Selenium), generated test cases directly from user stories via Azure MCP, and trained junior engineers on Claude Code and AI-assisted testing workflows.
Recent highlights include an open-source Playwright POM framework with CI/CD integration, a Playwright API testing webinar for TestGuild, and end-to-end automation for enterprise PAM software integrated with Azure AD, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online.
My core stack: Playwright (TypeScript), Selenium (C#/Java), FlaUI, NUnit, XUnit, PyTest, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Appium, Docker, Postman, and REST-Assured.

It is a good starting point to jump into Appium, but there are multiple issues with the course. Finishing the course required quite a bit of additional research. There are multiple videos that are completely outdated, for a few of them there is some audio edit done to better represent the current state. I would recommend to the instructor to completely re-film the course to better represent the current versions and remove outdated information. Or atleast to clearly mark what sections are not relavent anymore. For me, the biggest issues were the following: 1) Outdated content in some of the videos. 2) Section 3 is completely outdated and the project is abondaned. From GitHub: "Appium Desktop is unsupported, no longer maintained, and has known security vulnerabilities. It is advised not to use it at all. See the README for more information. Use at your own risk." 3) Section 10 is just an introduction to another course and a free e-book that is the same as the one offered in section 1. There is 0 additional value, but I still have to check the section in order to complete the course.

The content of the course met my expectations. However, some of the software versions were outdated so you have to figure out yourself how to handle that, which is not always straightforward. Also, not all of the questions asked by other participants were answered, which I find is a missed opportunity. Having said that, the topics themselves were correctly explained and they provide you with a solid basis for your own explorations.

In this course, I found many interesting things which helped me to update my knowledge about winappdriver automation testing. As in our days is very popular to have automation frameworks integrated with a gherkin language, I would suggest adding to this course another section with a demo framework integrated with spec flow. Speclow in our days is very popular and used in many companies. This topic will attract more students. Some students are not beginers, and they are looking just for information that they don't know and they don't want to spend their time on assignments. I don't think that the assignment from section 3 should be obligatory and not allow marking as accomplished(I mean, without this assignment, the student can not receive his certification). Thank you very much for the next course about the Azure DevOps pipeline! I used to do pipelines before, but never did pipelines for desktop applications and never used the pool agents. This course helped me to understand the process.

Enfim. É isso. Recomendo, mas poderia ser melhor.

This is a really great course and the instructor is very responsive. Like many courses, software updates are always a challenge because they can break your apps. The instructor is great about looking into those breaking changes, and where I've encountered them, I put my code updates in various questions when others have encountered the same issues. Be sure to read those questions and answers!

Initial Sessions Feedback: Sessions are going very very slow and all are short sessions. Tutor is not talking freely and just reading the text written in front of him. Lot of pauses in between. Tutor is explaining very slowly in such a way that , as if these sessions are for kids. Would have been better if these would have been taken care. Ending Sessions: Tutor focused on things which can be used in the real projects and helpful. In real life projects, there will be many more features which one has to use and implement. would have been still better, if he comes up with more such advanced features examples.

This is a very good course that outlines the basics for getting started with this technology. It was easy to follow and the quizzes were some of best I have taken on Udemy; they tested you on exactly what was in the lesson. Toward the end there are some lessons that may not relate to what you want to use it for, but it is very helpful and presented well. Easy to understand and happy presenter, really enjoys his work! (Made with Camtasia 2019 it looks like too, which is a great product!)

If some one is looking for selenium C# desktop application automation with appium, this is the course to kick start with. Trainer explained it very well, even an non IT background person can understand it. trainer explained it very well as if spoon feeding a kinder garden student. for this reason few people may not like it as basics are in too detail. Thanks sir, for your patience explanation and for your efforts. i can feel your efforts in each and every video you have recorded. looking forward for more interaction as you will be receiving couple of doubts and queries from me in coming days. :-) :-)

This training by Naeem was very beneficial to me. I recently started using Appium at work to test our application and this course has helped fill in quite a few gaps that I was missing. He is very thorough and takes the time to reply to my questions. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone using appium for automation testing.

As a QA Programmer, I needed a new way to automate tests, and WinAppDriver seemed like a good fit. This course walked through all the basics necessary to get a running start with using WinAppDriver, for even WinForms, which I especially needed. The instructor is very responsive to questions and issues, so anyone taking this course should know they are being supported if the need arises while following the course material.
