Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,009 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in June 2016. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a 7.1 hour, 88-lecture course from Infinite Skills, narrated by Mark Long, that walks through how RF signals behave and how that shapes WLAN design. It moves from wireless basics and RF behavior through signaling, wireless LANs, security fundamentals, WLAN design, threats, and troubleshooting. It is billed as intermediate and really does assume you already know roughly what a wireless network is; it is not a from-zero course, it is a from-curious-to-competent one.
Reviewers consistently call the explanations clear and easy to follow, and several say the pacing lets you actually think through concepts instead of just watching slides go by. Matt Hartley singles out how well the units build on each other, calling them well laid out and easy to review later. The complaints cluster tightly: it is pure lecture with no labs or hands-on exercises, several reviewers wanted more diagrams instead of text explanations for things like OFDM and MIMO, and more than one reviewer wanted deeper technical detail once they already knew the basics.
The bigger issue is age. The course was last updated in June 2016 and, per reviewer Paul Jacobson, covers standards only through about 2014, so there is nothing on Wi-Fi 6, WPA3, or 802.11ax. For someone building a first mental model of RF and WLAN behavior, reviewers say the fundamentals still hold up fine and the course delivers on that narrow promise. For anyone who already has basic Wi-Fi knowledge and wants current standards or lab work, the age and lecture-only format make this a lesser fit.
Pros
- Reviewers repeatedly call the explanations clear, well-paced, and easy to follow
- Broad walk through RF behavior, signaling, WLAN design, and troubleshooting in one course
- Good springboard for a career change into wireless, per at least one reviewer
- Well organized into units that are easy to revisit later
Cons
- Content only covers standards through about 2014, nothing on Wi-Fi 6 or WPA3
- Pure lecture format with no labs, quizzes, or hands-on exercises
- Text-heavy slides with few diagrams for topics like OFDM and MIMO
Fits people with some wireless exposure who want the RF theory filled in, not absolute beginners or CWNA-level pros.

Pros • Great fundamental class if you have little to no knowledge of 802.11 and RF fundamentals • Covers a lot of topics from a high level giving a good overview of the content. Cons • Class is a bit old (last updated in 2016) • Too much time spent explaining antenna fundamentals which I do not believe really applies to a Wi-Fi AP • No deep dives into the 802.11 topics. • No explanation of the signaling that occurs between a station and a AP. Summary Great class if you have little to no knowledge of 802.11 or RF fundamentals. If you have a good basic understanding of 802.11 there is not much new information in this class. I was looking for a more technical in-depth training for OFDM and the signaling that occurs when a station is communicating with an AP.

A great course, lots of good information / resource. Now this is not a criticism in the course in itself, however, guess with the advent on newer technologies i.e. 802.11ax/Wi-Fi 6 and WPA3, etc, some of these information have been "superceded". An updated version would be nice, however, the fundamentals of Wireless and RF is still very relevant. And finally, it would be nice if the videos can be made available to download?

This is an excellent course and I thoroughly recommend it from several levels. Content is excellent, appropriate for the level. Instructor is very knowledgeable and tone of voice is very listenable. Would thoroughly recommend course to others. It’s not one of those courses where you say “wish I hadn’t purchased that, it was a waste of time.” Not at all. Great course, instructor is to be commended. Very helpful.

Very satisfied with what I learned. The instructor is very clear in presentation. If anything, more was covered than I expected about wireless technology. The only significant negative that I have is that I think there should be a PDF or other resource going along with the course, rather than just bullet points on the course screen. That seems like an obvious improvement that should be made. But I would still recommend the course to anyone wanting to learn the basics and beyond the basics with wireless networks.

it was a perfect match even though I have 2 years experience in networking and troubleshooting, now I realized that many of the problems I faced (slow wireless connection and so on) is mentioned in this course, a Great experience and course, thank you mark. but it would be nice if the materials are available to the people who finished the course instead of taking notes.

Big fan of this course - having moved jobs recently from virtualisation to Wi-Fi/WLAN solutions, this has set me up perfectly for a set of technologies that I knew very little about. Everything is explained in a very coherent way, and presented in a neatly digestible format. Would recommend for anyone who wants to scratch beneath the surface, or just wants to expand on their overall networking skills. Have recommended this course multiple times personally!

Overall this is a good course, touching many of the Wireless (Wi-Fi) related topics in brief. It would help to know what topics to study or explore more. Most of the content found are not updated, since Wi-Fi technology getting updated rapidly these contents would also better to be updated, may be 6-7 years older contents are only available. Some information provided about Wi-Fi professional certifications are not correct, it is better to be updated those as well.

The course provides a good introduction to the Wireless Networking world if you are a beginner. I have gained much insights about various terminologies and concept of Wireless Networking after attending this course. Some of the chapters are targeted towards people aspiring to be a Wireless Networking professionals.

I thought this was a great overview of wireless networks, from underlining technology to application and challenges. I have a much better understanding of this technology as the result of the course. I would prefer more visual aids, but it seemed to me not having as many as I wished didn't really diminish the quality of content. I watched the course at 1.5x the original speed and that was perfect for my learning style.

While there are a few minor errors, such as the certifications section, the overall course is an excellent primer in the wireless technologies and provides a good foundation for people looking to prepare for future wireless certifications. This course goes deeper than some of the vendor-specific course fail to give a foundation, instead jumping into what you need to know to pass a certification course. A course like this will give a better understanding of what you need in a job to support a wireless network no matter the vendor you choose.
