A complete guide to OpenToonz & Tahoma2D for 2D animation (Udemy.com)

Now, this course is good, no doubt, and very explanatory. But the reason I'm giving it this rating is because this course isn't a full OpenToonz course; its more like the basics, and this is annoying because you can find everything and even more advanced lessons he left out for free on his YouTube channel, which begs the question. Aside from orderliness, is this course really worth paying for? If you can please update this course as soon as possible with all the features you left out, including a step-by-step detailed process (which you often do, by the way) for creating more advanced animations, it'd be really worth it, and that's a 5-star rating for me. please. Thank you

I’m really thankful for this course. THANK YOU, Darren :) The beginning was so hard. I already knew a little bit about the software, and English language was (still is) difficult for me. So I did a big effort for not stopping. But soon it was better and better, and I learned and enjoyed a lot with this course. I also improved my listening :P The teacher answer your questions, and so quickly. Very professional. The knowledge is divided in little lessons, more accessible, it helps you to see the small parts written, and to go directly to one where you find problems… A very good structure of the course. He adds some lessons, I mean, he continue to feed the course. I would like to see about Fx (special effects), about different tools (hook tool, skeleton tool, plastic tool, tracker tool…), about Paths, Pegbar... I recommended this course, and I’m going to check his Youtube channel and his Discord :)

I love this class! Before this I looked at skillshare and it was about $150 for a course in opentoonz, ouch! Not going there. I paid 12 something at Udemy here and I really looked forward to about 11 hrs of training by Darren. An expert that knows how to teach. I am halfway through and I just love this class! I tried Youtube for advice which is helpful for specific topics, but I need more than 15 minutes and from someone who can go slow like Darren and I can gradually soak up knowledge. Thank you so much! I am really enjoying the course! I know I am learning a lot. Darren is very responsive to questions and concerns. It is very fulfilling. Perfect for my needs and then some. I am so happy!

In the course, the basics are explained in great detail and very extensively. You can tell that the course was made with a lot of commitment and attention to detail. I can warmly recommend this course to any beginner. Everything that is addressed is also shown. The explanations are easy to understand and written at a comfortable pace. The scope of the material covers everything I need as a beginner and I can use the course as a reference book in the future. Great course and respect for the work and care that went into it.

Wow! Thank you Darren. This was far more in depth and helpful than I thought it would be, I really needed to cover those basic fundamentals properly and have a nice fine-tuned guided journey to learning the program from scratch. I did do animation for roughly 8 months a few years ago and learned as much as I could through you and other OpenToonz content creators on YouTube but I just didn't know what to learn and in what order so this really filled in the gaps and left out any guess work.

Darren knows his stuff AND knows how to present material in an engaging way. This is NOT one of those courses where someone got a microphone for Christmas and thought it would be fun to become a teacher; this has clearly been put together with a lot of thought, so that you get a ton of content, all nicely organised, with clear explanations throughout. OpenToonz is probably one of the more complicated animation packages (reflecting its awesome power) making it really tough going if you're trying to work things out for yourself, cobbling together a bunch of youtube videos etc. If you're looking for someone who can help you navigate the software and get up to speed with its main features, you've found him. (And I should add that I'm difficult to please - had many refunds from udemy for courses that didn't deliver what they promised. No such problems with this one.) Many Thanks, Darren.

Great course. I highly recommend it. The course is well paced, clear, concise and comprehensive. I have little bit of experience in other animation software, and I have been learning bits and pieces of opentoonz in random youtube videos on and off for some time which helped me with some of the basics, but I never truly felt I knew my way around the software completely. This course filled out all the gaps in my knowledge and taught me some new things too.

This course far exceeded my expectations. Also the supplemental support through the DarrenT discord server (which is very active) is a really enjoyable community to assist in my animation learning and development. I'm about 2/3 through the course so far and I've already made my own animated videos that met my modest animation goals prior to joining this course. If you're interested in learning animation, this is a wonderful place to begin your journey, you will be able to bring your art to life very quickly. Whether you plan on animating your own cartoon or show, making animations on top of camera footage, or even making animated memes and gifs, this course will have you producing media even before you finish the course! 10/10 would recommend.

I am halfway through the course. It has been a good match for me. Animation terms and concepts are being introduced in the lessons to practice using the program. I have also participated in the challenges at the Discord site that is introduced in the first section of this course. That has provided more practice opportunity and motivation through interaction with others who are learning.

A very comprehensive guide on Opentoonz. It gives detailed instructions on the various mechanics of the software and explains concepts thoroughly. The most valuable thing about this course to me is the setup of the environment for 2d animation. This is rarely talked about in any user-created tutorials on the web/youtube. Opentoonz is free and powerful, but only with the right knowledge can you use it's full potential. This course definitely facilitates this.
