Course Description
You opened Ableton Live. There's a grid. There's a timeline. There are racks, devices, sends, scenes, and a glowing red record button that does something different depending on which view you're in. You closed it.
That's the moment this course was built for.
Hi, I'm Jay — Dr. J. Anthony Allen. I'm an Ableton Certified Trainer, a tenured university professor, and I've taught close to a million students online. This is the official Ableton Live 11 curriculum, Parts 1–3, taught the way I'd teach it to a private student paying me by the hour — except faster, cheaper, and you can rewind.
What you'll actually be able to do
By the end of these three parts you can open a blank Ableton set, record an idea (audio or MIDI), build it out in Session View, arrange the full song in Arrangement View, mix it, and export a finished track. Not a half-finished sketch. A song.
Why this course
This is Ableton's certified curriculum, not a hobbyist's interpretation of it. Every concept maps to how the program is actually designed to be used. No 12-hour rabbit holes on a feature you'll use once.
I treat you like an adult with limited time. Short videos. Real projects. Clear language. No hype.
The credentials, briefly
Ableton Certified Trainer. Ph.D. in Music. Tenured university professor. ~1 million students online. 4.7+ average rating across my catalog. I answer every question posted to this course personally, within 24 hours. Not a TA. Me.

I have watched, followed and practiced all of the excercises that the instructor showed me, and I am now feeling more confident in using Ableton Live! I am pleased with the results of this course. Now for part 4, 5 & 6! Thank you J!

Yeah, I thought the course was good, I learned a few new tricks and shortcuts, which is what it's all about. Big thanks to the gaffer who taught the course well, in a relaxed and easy-to-understand way. The only drawback for me is that the view of the tutors' screen which displayed ableton was on occasion a little blurred. I have a 32-inch display and maybe it's my old eyes too aren't operating in full 4k, I don't know. That aside, big thanks, stay safe and follow your star :)

Great course for getting exposure to the fundamentals of Ableton Live. I took off one star because I wish there was a section where we would build a simple song (or even just a loop) together using the material/concepts taught in this class, but I'd definitely still recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn more about Ableton Live!

I found J. a very good teacher. He introduces the program resources gradually, with a defined course, but does not leave the student abandoned when he needs to take a few steps ahead and than go back in order to something make sense. At times it can be good to leave the caption on, as the volume of the master overlaps with that of his voice. Recommended!

DEF worth it —— better than youtube tutorials cuz gives overview of EVERYTHING —— I learned some little bits I never saw on YouTube. Amazing, concise + well explained! Can watch on double speed if know some already or get bored.

This course was an awesome way to familliarize yourself with the basics of Live 11. I found it easy to understand and learn from this course. I look forward to future courses and lessons from this speaker, and recommend this for everybody who would like to learn Ableton Live 11 quickly and thoroughly.

Instructor is knowledgeable and easy to listen to. He also isn’t trying to show off his speed and leave beginners in the dust. Really seems like he wants the user to learn and advance with this DAW. My only suggestion would be for the Jay to consider and plan in advance the examples he would use, (effects, synths, instruments, etc.), rather than just randomly searching with a "hit and miss" outcome. Again though, terrific instructor and I learned sooo much! Looking forward to now moving on to parts 4, 5, & 6 that I purchased.

Really clear and digestible lessons. I found Ableton really daunting before this, and was able to start building tracks before I even got to the end of the course. Really looking forward to the next course in this series!

I take this course becasue I want to know what features my current DAW lacks of or Ableton does better, as Ableton is called DAW leader. This course just shows me Ableton is "me too". I dont like Ableton's tiny buttons and text in GUI, though. I look forward to learn meats and potatos in course 4,5, 6.
