The Complete Mixing Masterclass (Udemy.com)

I JUST finished the entire course, while writing notes all throughout. I will do my best to write a fair and honest review of the good and bad: For context, I am a composer/ producer, and I've been messing around with DAWs for more than 10 years. I've produced various tracks, but I still felt like I lacked fundamentals of the technical side in mixing/ mastering. This course was VERY helpful in solidifying these things for me, and it STARTED of really strong, with a very easy to follow, nicely separated way of step by step explaining things. I think it does a great job from Section 1 to around Section 8. Overall the course is good, and WORTH IT. I must say, though, it DID feel to me like it went off the rails in the middle, sadly, then recovered pretty nicely at the end. In the middle of this course, there is a LOT of back and forth with things like reverbs / delays, where it feels repetitive, and not fundamental. It also does NOT always do the job of "going out of the way to teach for ANY DAW" like promised in the beggining. There are pretty frustrating moments of "my reverb has this button, you might need to figure out what that is in your plugin" or "find a simpler plugin than the one I'm teaching you with". These things outright just don't make sense when you're supposed to be learning, and really bring out a lot of confusing. With that, I also include other examples: - Showing the different "delay times" (16th, 8th, etc) while only changing the Left channel, keeping the Right one always at 3 (odd rhythm), which was so confusing. - Showing a difference that an effect bus does on a track, but the track is playing another unrelated sound at the same time. There was also another HUGE problem in my opinion, and that was: How the chosen song felt MANY MANY times as a limitation. How to compress vocals? This track has no vocals and let's use a completely unrelated freesound.org vocal that has no musicality with the type of track we're working with. How to compress drums? We don't really do that too much in this case because its electronic and it's pretty good already, etc How to do reverb on guitars? Let's use this weird synth that has nothing to do with a guitar to demonstrate that. That said, there IS STILL a good chunk of GREAT stuff in this course, and that's why it deserves 4 stars. It's a great solidification of a lot of things. It IS missing important stuff, vocal treatment being one of the biggest, but it IS good. Thank you to the maker of this course for making this and I mean no disrespect with the criticism parts! Also, one last thing that I really felt: Phone should be in SILENT mode if you're going to mix a song, sorry but it had to be mentioned I think! Thanks!

Pretty great content. I knew nothing about mixing before taking this class and now I feel like I have a pretty solid foundation on which to start building. Off to the studio to start to practice these new tools...

Just finished the course. Everything is explained really well and I definitely learned a lot. It does a good job of teaching the fundamentals of mixing. However the samples he choose to mix are good for some parts of the class but really hard to demonstrate on for other parts. Other than that it's pretty great...

The weak link here is the track being mixed. There's lessons about how to mix for vocals and guitars when the track has neither. A random vocal track is thrown in but as a learner, it really doesn't give you a good idea of how vocals should sit in a mix. Also, the track is long and all over the place compositionally. I think a more conservative track to mix would have been more helpful. I also thought at times there were statements made that could be very misleading if I did not have some experience already under my belt. I think the main benefit here is that if you do have some experience making tracks, it does give you a better sense of what you need to know in order to mix. But by no means is this a "masterclass". It's modest and there's room for improvement. Worth it at a discount but not at full price.

Taught me all the fundamentals I needed to properly mix my projects and for the first time ever I was able to produce a song that sounded DELICIOUS. Thank you for the help. Solid course. Stop wasting time and do this one.

Honestly, the course itself is not bad. However, I believe the entire course would have been much better if the instructor had used a different song, preferably one with actual vocals. I was very disappointed in that aspect. When it comes to the actual teaching, the instructor did a good job explaining everything and his process. Despite the choice of song, he explains all the concepts extremely well. I wish it had been a different song, but overall, it was still worth the time and money.the time and money.

Jason delivers a great introduction to mixing in a relaxed and informative style that he is known for. I recommend this course for anyone who hasn't undertaken any mixing before, musicians who want their music to sound better or those who have dabbled and not really known what they are doing. At the end of the course you'll have enough basics to lift your music and make its sound better

The tutor of this course is concise. And doesn’t focus on style of music but gives you an overview of what you can do in the style you’re mixing. I enjoyed more the practicality of all he talked about.

Pros:
- I picked up some useful tips about EQ and compressing tracks. Then again, there are comments that explain why the methods in this course are not entirely correct.
Cons
- Slow-paced and a lot of redundant information. A lot of stuff could have simply been cut away.
- Very unprofessional at times: poor voice recording quality, phone going off, showing things in his messy studio.
- The song he was working on was not enjoyable to listen too. At least some more diversity would have been nice. I don't mind EDM, but a generic track would have been a better example to work with.
- The number one disappointment: lots of techniques and tips where given such as "technique/effect X is very good when using instrument Y", while there is no Y present in the tracks. So many ideas were never explained through example. Especially near the end where he mentions guitars, acoustic drums, vocals, etc.
I got this for a tenner and I'm glad I didn't pay full price.

A good introduction to mixing.Got me started with all the basic tools like EQ,compressor,Reverbs and Delay.Most of all,this course gave me the right outlook to a music track.The concept of viewing your track in 3D was just amazing!I would definitely recommend this course to beginners.
