Fingerstyle Acoustic Blues Guitar Lessons In The Old Style

Acoustic blues guitar teacher Jim Bruce was voted Number 2 top guitar instructor on Truefire in 2013 (Number 1 for acoustic blues lessons). Jim still plays blues guitar on the street in Europe and also gives concerts - plus teaching old style finger picking wherever he goes!

Now online students can benefit from over 40 years of real experience playing blues guitar in the authentic way. If you want to play real blues guitar just like the old blues men, then is where you come to find out how. Keep it real with Jim Bruce and play blues guitar like it was originally played using these state-of-the-art acoustic guitar lessons.

A word from Jim - " My playing career goes way back, to the folk clubs on the UK in the sixties, clubs pubs and bars in six countries, and on the city streets of Europe. This is how I learned my trade.

One day someone asked me to slow down a lick to show them exactly what I was doing with my hands. As I tried to do this, I found that I was doing much, much more than I realized. It was these tiny hand movements that make acoustic blues so exciting when it's performed properly. This is the main focus of my lessons - to show students exactly how to play blues guitar in great detail.  "

Really like the lessons, very well presented. The tabs could be easier to follow. I am writing them out again myself with rhythm notation, but that is the way I learn best.

By Rick Frank on 10/15/2020

I really enjoy seeing these country blues pieces broken down and explained

By Eddie Samson on 12/17/2018

Je n'ai fais que deux lecons jusqu'a maintenant, mais je suis tres satisfait des techniques enseignees et du style que Jim nous fait decouvrir. Les lecons sont divertissantes et motivantes. Merci!

By Anrewgunter on 12/26/2017

Course is first class Jim breaks most songs into manageable sections lyrics to songs could may be under tabs so you get a feel & grove for the songs but still great value for money .

By Kyle Melnick on 9/13/2017

Great way to get into country blues style - he gives a bit of info on the style of the player then teaches you how to play. just start playing!

By Mark Prichard on 5/27/2017

This is a fantastic course. Jim Bruce obviously loves this music and has spent years studying, listening and playing the music of these old blues masters. He has play-throughs plus detailed breakdowns with tab, left and right hand close-ups and tips on technique for each song. He also gives variants that work well when singing or performing live. There is tab for each song as a downloadable resource. Outstanding value and one of the best courses I have ever taken.

Well explain videos, accurate tablatures. You can explore many bluesmans and there works. I wish you add more Rev Gary Davis lesson but it doesnt matter because i still have a lot of work to do with Blind Blake by now. What a left hand he had this guy wow . Jim Bruce is a great master of this old country blues style and also a really good teacher. The secret is practice, practice, practice !!!!! Get the syncopate finger-picking and you can learn everything. For intermediate to advance players. Thanks Jim

I have noodled around most of my life. 53 years I was breaking guitar strings by the time I was three. At 10 yrs, i started drumming as my dad played guitar.63 b45 12 Gibson in open tuning . At 18 I got the bug again for slide and southern rock. Incidentely at this time I heard Jackson Brown play Cocaine a Rev .Gary Davis piece.Any way I struggled with more than Guitar for 30 more yrs craving that magic of recreating feeling of mastery over the frets that dog me.At 50 I realized I might miss my calling if I didnt do something quick! (nothing about blues is quick)Fatefully at this time I went to a garage sale where there was a few blues instructional dvd's by Roy Book Binder. A prior student of Mr.Gary Davis. Rev Davis suggests practicing an hr in the morning and an hr at night . I learned to stick to this schedule daily. Now about your program I am extremely pleased with your lessons and delivery. 100 satisfied! You must have spent many moons searching for this knowledge. You have a common sense when it comes to the progression of your lessons. Of course I jumped right to Blake the reason I found you, but I went back to start at Lightnin , it just makes sense for our learning curve. This is the key to my career of blues on the street for the people. Ive put in 2hrs aday for two yrs. I can now feel it won,t b long! Today for a change I went to your Robert Johnson Love in Vain and to my surprise I could play the pieces of the puzzle I could follow the transcription (I have had the Robert Johnson tabs for 20 yrs. and struggled with getting started). Bottom line is you handed me the key for next to nothing THANK YOU! My only beef is with the video player . It would be extremely valuable to be able to isolate sections to repeat . Thats it. Jim if you ever cross the Atlantic please let us know! I owe you debt.

I have been playing fingerstyle guitar for years. I signed up for this class already knowing some of the songs, but wanting different twists. I have been most pleasantly rewarded. Jim's approach has improved my playing, and his breaks are a welcome addition. I find that I take his input, mix it up a bit with my own style, and end up sounding better. A highly recommended course for seasoned players, and likely a godsend for those who haven't played much at all. thanks!

By Steve Garrett on 4/17/2015

Just began this course, so this is an early impression. I am strongly attracted to fingerstyle blues and these song lessons are enabling me to move forward quickly while having lots of fun. Good straightforward teaching style...no gimmicks. Worth the money for just one song so having this many styles and techniques at my fingertips is almost like a gift. More to follow in a few weeks.
