Course Description

In this awesome beginner and intermediate-level course we'll cover a wide variety of techniques for creating and animating some really cool, futuristic graphics inside of After Effects.
Master the tools you need to conquer any project in just 1.5 hours.
You'll learn how to:
*create and design your graphics using only After Effects' built-in tools,
*animate your graphics using basic keyframes and simple expressions,
*achieve a clean green screen color key
*motion track live-action footage
*composite your animated graphics over top for a final look.
The first two sections will cover creating a rectangular graphic and a circular graphic from scratch entirely inside of After Effects. You'll gain knowledge of the AE layout as well as where to find some of the software's most important, and commonly used, tools. We'll discuss working with shape layers, using the stroke effect, After Effects' built-in alignment and distribution tools, and loads of other good stuff.
The following two sections is where the fun begins as you learn how to animate your graphics and watch them come to life. I'll cover animating with basic keyframes and teach you some simple expressions you can use to achieve complex animations without actually setting any keyframes! You'll also learn how to animate your layers in 3D space, and how to work with the camera to create depth.
Finally, I'll teach you how to put it all together for a final piece! You'll learn the techniques used to get a clean green screen color key, how to motion track live-action footage, and how to place your already animated and completed graphics on top of the live-action footage to create the final look.Who this course is for:
  • Beginner and Intermediate level After Effects users
  • Anyone interested in learning more about After Effects

Duncan Rogoff

Freelance video editor and motion graphics artist based in San Francisco, CA.

Clients include: PlayStation, Charles Schwab, Visa, Salesforce, Facebook, Apple, WeChat, FICO, Slingbox, Marc Jacobs, Kat Von D, Sephora...

MOTION GRAPHICS ARE EVERYWHERE! I have created content to play on television, in sports arenas, in bank branches, on the web, in emails and internal presentations, at events, in movie theaters, and on social media. I have produced work that fits within brand guidelines, while continuing to be a part of the conversation and provide input as it relates to brand strategy and video.
I started my professional career in 2011 at a San Francisco ad agency, but I was cutting video long before that. This gave me both a solid foundation for work in multiple environments, a strong technical background, and the confidence to venture out on my own. Since then, I have freelanced in offices all over the Bay Area looking for places where I can advance my own skills and knowledge, develop strategy, and further brand. I am almost entirely self-taught and am extremely well-versed in all things post-production.
I understand that each project has it's own unique style and flow, and that story comes first. I enjoy exploration as well as designing with the client in mind. I am extremely proficient in Premiere Pro CC and have extensive knowledge of After Effects and Cinema 4d.

This was a very solid course all around. Great teacher, speaker and easy to understand. I liked the short cuts and explanations a lot. I learned some new techniques and was pleased at my finished results. I highly recommend this course if you're looking for some new ways of using A.E..

I felt that the content was great and learned a lot, I gave it a 4 because the instructor though very knowledgeable did speak too fast and did some actions that were tough to follow at times.

Easy to follow and nice small advices and tricks how to create small details with large and complex methods.

The course is really good. Well laid out explanations are good. I would like to see more courses like this by the same author and maybe incoorporate kinetic typography or cinema 4D lite into the tutorials to create 3d composites as well. All in all really enjoyed the exercises and am looking forward to more of the same

A lot of very helpful tips and points with clear, concise instructions for most of the course. Really great information on using expressions in animating effects. Also, proper organization of compositions helped a great deal. Great for the beginner who's gotten comfortable with AE and making their way into intermediate level.

I really enjoyed this course! I've had lots of experience with green screens and producing live stream graphics, but never knew how to motion track for production. I learned a lot of really cool tricks in this course that will serve me going forward. Definitely recommend! There are a few issues where following his examples isn't possible due to having a newer version of after effects I think, AE CC 2019 does not have an option to use Fast Blur, and I can't seem to accomplish converting the 3d layers in the circle graphic comp without the masks and blur effects ceasing to function. Updating the modules would be wise to continue selling this course.

I liked the overall course. However, in the last few chapters there seemed to some steps missing especially when changing from chapter to chapter.

I loved the exercises, they are very professional. My respects to the author because he is very creative. However, I would like to understand more the expressions, because sometimes I felt like I was only coping the instructions and steps.

I really enjoyed this course. It is very practical, and well-explained. I love that there were no long talks about the interface, etc., but a "learning by doing" experience :) Looking forward to completing another After Effects course from Duncan

I am able to learn a lot from this course! I didn't know ANYTHING about animating in AE, but now I know a lot more.

Loved the course. Showed very simple tricks to build futuristic animations. The instructor is organized and the course is structured well and builds up on what was taught before. For the last section, the pace could have been slightly slower - for the keying part but other than that it was nice and smooth. Thanks.

Very well articulated and executed. 2/3 complete and already feel 100x more capable with After Effects
