Course Description

In this course, wewill learn the tricks used by the top 1% of Scala developers.
You'll write 2000+lines of Scala codeyourself, with guidance, and you will become a rockstar.
This course is for Scala programmers who need to designcomplex, scalable systems, or need tocustomize existing tools (e.
g. Spark)or writetheir own.
Whymastering Scala:
it's thehottest language based on theJava Virtual Machine- the number of Scala jobs has exploded, butdemand iseven higherScala offerssignificantly higher pay(> 20%) than same-levelJava positions - the top Scala devs are paid 2x, 10x, even more!
it'sincredibly fun- once tasted Scala, you'll never want to get backyou will not have any trouble usingsome of the latest technologies written in Scala- Spark, Akkaand moreI like to get to the point and get things done.
This coursedeconstructsadvancedScala conceptsinto the critical pieces you needselectsthe most important ideasin Scala and separates them into the critical and nice-to-havesequencesideas in a way that "clicks" and makes sense throughout the process of learningapplieseverythingin live codeThe end benefits are still much greater:
a completely new level of skillwith the Scala languagesignificant bump in salarywhen you switch to Scala-return on investment for this course>100x in the first year alone!
more enjoyable work- Scala is fun!
future-proof skills- you'll be able to work with some of the cutting edge technologies (Spark, Akka etc)This course is forestablished programmerswith experience with Scalaandwith functional programming at the level of the Rock the JVM Scala beginners course. I already assume a solid understanding of general programming fundamentals.
If you've never coded before, this course isnot for you.
The course is comprehensive, butyou'll always see me get straight to the point. So make sure you have a good level of focus and commitment to become a badass programmer.
Ibelieve both theoryandpractice are important. That's why you'll get lectures with code examples, real life Scala code demos and assignments, plus additional resources, instructions, exercises and solutions. At the end of the course, you'll have written thousands of lines of Scala.
I've seen that my students are most successful - and my best students work at Google-class companies and committing to Scala repositories -when they're guided, but not being told what to do. I have assignments waiting for you, where I offer my (opinionated)guidance but otherwisefreedom to experiment and improve upon your Scala code.
Definitely not least, my students are most successful when they have fun along the way!
So join me in this course and let's rock the JVM!
Who this course is for:
Scala developers who need to design highly complex systems, APIs or frameworksBig data engineers who need to customize Spark code or other tools written in Scala

This course was amazing! Daniel is an awesome instructor! He has a clear and simple way to deliver the message. The course will melt your brain. The content is advance, but don't be discouraged by the concepts and keep going forward. The lectures are designed so that you get the idea. You think you know Scala and then you will get a humble yet definitive slap in your ego.

By Edward Yang on 11/14/2020

This course is broken down nicely to help newbies understand Scala's features. This is in no way an "advanced course", and there's a lot of moments where he makes you feel good when completing the course, despite this course not being very advanced.
It does not go into monads, monad transformers, tagless-final, etc. If you're looking for advanced functional programming concepts, this isn't the right place.
That being said, when I purchased this course as a new Scala developer transitioning from OOP, it was very useful so I'm keeping the rating at 5 stars.

This course is awesome. I really enjoyed doing the exercises and discover new advanced features in Scala. It definitely makes any developer more confident to enter with full motivation in any big Scala project. As a small suggestion, I would say that it miss test cases especially for Futures in Scala, which I think is valuable. However, it does not take down the score of the course.

This is nice! I'm gonna watch all of them carefully. Thanks!

The infinite set examples are inconsistent with the uneven use of property based sets and concrete sets.

A very good and useful course. I would recommend it for everyone.

By Ignacio Nodal on 10/22/2020

Absolutely awesome. Great course to get a deep understand of Scala features. Scala is not an easy to learn language, but with Daniel's explanations it has become much more clearer.

He is an excellent teacher!!!

By Derek Wooters on 10/18/2020

I wish there were some more practical code examples. Good rationale behind all of the methods and functions but it would be nice to use them as building blocks into some real world example.

Awesome!

By Jalen Hickman on 10/9/2020

This is absolutely perfect if you are wanting to build a solid foundation in Scala.
