Why I built this course?

Aurora is complex and architecturally very different from the databases available in the market. When I started to learn it, the biggest challenge was the non availability of Aurora specific information. The only source of information is the Amazon Aurora documentation website which in my humble opinion is not the most effective way to learn. It took me quite sometime to wrap my head around Aurora's architecture and features; the tutorials in the documentation involve manual steps, mostly on the console, as a result they are not easy to follow. Long story short, for folks new to Aurora (& Postgres) learning Aurora can be daunting.

Based on my personal experience with learning Aurora Postgres, I decided to put together this course to help others get up to speed with Aurora in minimum possible time. So if I have to describe in one line, why I built this course  - "It is to accelerate students learning".

The instructor is knowledgeable and present key concepts in clear terms and makes it very easy to understand the concept. The sound and the video quality are good. Wil recommend this course to any one interested in learning AWS RDS Aurora Postgres DB.

The course provides in-depth coverage of Aurora PostgreSQL architecture and concepts. The hands-on lessons and code repository are excellent and very much useful. Thanks to the author for this great course.

This is a super comprehensive course and it is good if you want to learn not only how to use Aurora but also deep understanding how it works behind the scenes. But there are also some cons from my personal perspective: some of the scrips are not working anymore and the instructor doesn’t answer the questions, some of the lessons are irrelevant because AWS changed the dashboard (performance insights) and the most important thing is the instructor “assume” that you already know a lot of things so if you don’t you will have to stop the video, learn and then continue. But if you are eager to deep dive into Aurora and you don’t afraid to learn yourself that is an excellent course for you. I am happy with the choice of purchasing this course.

Introducing terraform to create the environments for the hands-on lessons might be good for the lessons and stop enabling the ec2 machines everytime using the given scripts, just as an improvement and use of other techologies.

Very informative. I didn't expect so deep information about PostgreSQL and AWS administration. Wary useful information about testing and checking the loading system, and the backup and replication system

A good course that fell short of being great ... This could have been 5 star course, but it is not, because of the following reasons. Let's start with assigned (4.5) stars 1, The instructor is very knowledgeable. 2, The instructor has presented the material in depth. 3, The instructor's communication skills are very good. 4, The instructor has put together a very good slide deck. Now, for the missing stars The first missing star ======================= Not sure why the instructor has decided to ditch using GUIs in favor of automation (cloudformation, yaml, and scripting) to configure the different Aurora components. For those, like me, who do not know cloudwatch etc. will be lost in the second lecture. BTW, this is when I had to put this course on-hold and had to refer to You-tube and other resources to learn how to do the stuff via the GUI. In fact, I have had to take several detours to learn the stuff the instructor had demo-ed using scripting. And or rare occasions, when the instructor has used GUIs, he just went through too fast for the readers to follow along. The second missing star ======================= Not sure why the instructor had decided to skip the all-so-important topic of database migration (i.e. on-prem postgresql to aurora)? In my opinion, an AWS DBA spends more time lifting & shifting on-prem dbs to the cloud Vs creating new cloud based dbs from scratch. Summary ======= All in all, a good course. Maybe the instructor should explicitly mention the required skill set needed in the pre requisite section.

Rajeev, this was excellent - Just what I needed. I have experience with PostgreSQL, but needed to get up to speed on Aurora with Postgres. This cource is perfect for that. Rajeev is an excellent instructure. Thanks so much!

This class was excellent. Good mix of concepts/practice/reality. Most of the course content was relevant and useful. I'm an experienced Oracle developer/DBA. After taking this course I have way more confidence to jump into Postgresql issues and make impactful changes more quickly.
