Course Description
Authentication for traditional web applications is fairly straight-forward: we send our credentials to the server, a session is created, and a cookie is returned to be saved in the browser. This method works well for round-trip applications, but it isn't a good way to do authentication in modern single page apps, like those built with AngularJS.
In this course we are going to learn about the challenges associated with traditional authentication and how to use what is arguably the best alternative: the JSON Web Token.
Using that knowledge, we'll implement authentication in an AngularJS app that makes calls to an Express API. We'll cover how to address all the challenges associated with keeping a single page application in check when it comes to stateless authentication. This can be a tricky matter since the front end and backend apps are effectively separated, but we'll find out how to leverage our user's JWT to address the challenges.
We'll use Auth0 as an identity and authentication server so that we don't have to roll our own.

Firstly, Thanks for offering this course (esp for free). This course was very helpful in helping me understand the concepts relating to JWT. However, I would like to offer some feedback just with the intention to help you improve the course. I am a beginner to Angular Js. Not sure if I am right audience for this course. This course had so much more code than I can take. I still went through all the course because I was able to relate the concepts I have known. But otherwise, it can be a challenge for beginners. In that case, maybe you wanna consider indicating pre-requisites clearly upfront. Thanks again.

The course has been understandable and well explained. The instructor voice is nice and easy to understand, the language used is perfect, no too technical but not too basic. It's a great course to better understand the already complete documentation auth0 provides. You can actually ask questions so it's more personal to your needs. I really enjoyed! The course was good in walking you through how to use Auth0 to enable authentication in a SPA. Pretty good in that respect. However, as noted by some questions, certain pieces in building out the profile were missed that seemed important. Also, at this point, most folks would be looking for using Angular 2/4 instead of AngularJS. I was still glad to go through it though.

As a 1,5 hour course, it really goes quick. At some points it was a bit difficult to follow, but I think that I got the idea and that I can now implement it in my personal project. One thing to notice though, there were some minor differences that had to be done in order to get everything working. I guess there have been some changes with the time and the different versions of lock.

I really loved this course because I learnt SO much from it! This will now pave the way for me to build my own authenticated web and mobile applications all using Auth0 authentication. I stumbled a bit while doing the course, but after asking a few questions, and doing some additional research, I picked myself up and continued along with the course. The course instructor was very knowledgeable and was very patient in delivering the course content. I enjoyed the pace of this course, because it meant that I was able to follow through with the course, and keep up with the instructor. Well done Ryan, and thanks for delivering this course!

Hello Ryan, I went through the course, i think you already know, you went little quicker on the course (bcoz its free course). I liked the course. I developed the SSO previously so i followed most of the steps. I like you writing the code from scratch and explaining the things in detail before using them. Would recommend and interested in other courses. Thank you very much.

There are few things that have changed since the course was compiled that break the code. But the solutions for the errors are present online and can be debugged easily. Good course overall. But there should have been a slightly meaningful app built at the end of course to make it a real-time application.

This is a valuable resource on securing SPA/API code, using JWT, and integrating Auth0 to deliver authentication use-cases. Ryan Chenkie's concise and to-the-point delivery make this technical journey a "quick read" where the components are expertly fit together to develop the design. A real 'page turner' to get to the next segment and see the image develop further. Thanks Ryan.

This was a very good course. I learned a lot and it served some of my needs. The one thing I would like to have is more elaboration on "Why" several injectors were being used and "How" we would know to use them. I still recommend the course to anyone that wants to dive into an introduction to authentication. The instructor seems to answer questions relatively quickly and so even though there are changes to some of the APIs (Auth0 mainly) it helps that he is answering questions and posting code to solve problems.

One immediately feels that the teacher really knows what he's talking about, the first two lessons explain the operation of authentication by a third party and that already puts you on track for the future, and saves you a crazy time when trying to learn what it is all about. The phrasing is intelligible and understandable which is particularly pleasant. The pace is fast and the content is quite dense, so you’ll have to put the video on paused quite often to catch the instructor, especially if you are coding the solution at the same time. The instructor provides a course on a particularly complicated subject without being off-putting or drown in too much theoretical details. Bravo.
