Course Description

Application and data security is one of the biggest challenges most companies face. If you become proficient in Microsoft Azure security controls, this is a skill that will help you in your career. Whether you are the company security expert, or you are in operations, development, or administration, understanding Microsoft Azure's security options is a powerful tool to have in your toolbox.

This course helps you study for and pass the AZ-500 exam, Microsoft Azure Security Technologies. Passing this exam qualifies you for the certification Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate. You can proudly show this certification on your resume or LinkedIn profile or mention it during job interviews. It means that you have successfully demonstrated your skills in Azure Security.

In this course, I go through the requirements of the AZ-500 exam from start to finish. We cover the following areas:

  • Manage identity and access (30-35%)

  • Implement platform protection (15-20%)

  • Manage security operations (25-30%)

  • Secure data and applications (25-30%)

Course includes a free practice test.

Responsibilities for an Azure security engineer include managing the security posture, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities, performing threat modeling, implementing threat protection, and responding to security incident escalations.

Azure security engineers often serve as part of a larger team to plan and implement cloud-based management and security.

Scott Duffy

Hi there, my name is Scott Duffy. And I love making complex technical topics easy to understand.

This has been the basis of my entire career – as a developer, as a development manager, as a software architect – over the past 20 years. I spend half my time in the world of business, explaining complex technical topics to business owners and stakeholders so that they can understand and agree with my approach to solving their business problems with technical solutions. And the other half with developers, explaining the business reasons behind decisions and ensuring that any decisions made on the technical side don't restrict the business in unexpected ways.

And I'm here on Udemy to teach what I know in an approachable way. I started teaching courses in 2014, and have taught over 1,600,000 students. I am grateful every day for being able to connect with so many students in almost every country around the world.

I'm a certified Enterprise Architect and certified cloud architect. I have been developing with Microsoft technologies for 20 years, starting with Classic ASP, and all the versions of .NET. We now live in the cloud era, with Microsoft Azure being prevalent in most large enterprises. I'm certified as an Azure Architect and Developer too. As well as AWS Solution Architect Associate (SAA).

Microsoft MVP Award winner for 2022-2025.

Passed Exam, but baught extra practice Tests from another course at Udemy where I did one of them. But Scotts Test is little easier.

Excellency in Teaching, to the Point & very informative lectures from Scott; & I'll pass this exam, God willing. thank you Scott!

By Alex Guryn on 11/10/2024

Great, easy to follow course, which can serve as an overview to AZ-500. I doubt though that the course is enough to pass the exam (comparing to MS learn training). Some of the materials are outdated already as the course was recorded in 2022. Azure ID became Entra ID by this time, for instance.

By Anonymized User on 8/3/2024

It flows at a good pace, explaining the preliminary stuff and "ground rules", not assuming too much prior knowledge - I like that!

By Anonymized User on 11/28/2023

Very good resource quite to the point and thank you for the valuable knowledge sharing. Once I complete my certification will post again.

Scott does an excellent job of covering each section clearly and without fluff. He is to the point and precise. It avoids confusion and avoids wasting my time. I tried a couple other AZ-500 courses from other instructors and found them confusing, outdated and Wasted hours trying to make sense of the lectures. Scott is great, and he has gotten me through a couple certs so far.

Presenter is switching between different types of Azure subscriptions which might not be available to all students. Hence, not able to follow in parallel as a hands on training. Content is little bit outdated as some Azure options, GUI and service names have changed over the last 2-3 years.

By David King on 4/6/2023

There is much to be covered for sure. The labs can be a bit confusing but I got through them. The test asked many questions that I feel the topics were not enforced in the class. Or maybe I was not paying attention. Overall, a good class to take I feel.

By Marian Sharbanov on 3/8/2023

Quality content. Very well explained. Narration is the best I was able to find, no strange accents. This allows me to stay focused for a long time.

By James Smith on 1/13/2023

Enjoying it so far. The only downside is that some of the parts you need to explore are behind a subscription, which whilst learning, I obviously don't have. So the elements where we're able to follow along in a practical sense by setting it up, it's a shame that with some of it, I can only watch and listen. Which in a learning format, for myself at least, isn't all that appealing.
