great teaching- very clear articulation and explanation of critical concepts for a beginner. I only have ONE problem or issue so far, and that is he forgot to mention the following which is critical: Pathing: Different distros place binaries in different spots (e.g., /usr/bin/ vs /bin/). This is why using /usr/bin/env bash in your shebang is considered a "best practice" for portability, bash is the industry standard BUT not every distro uses it-Ubuntu/Debian: Uses Dash (a leaner, faster shell) for /bin/sh. If you write a script with a #!/bin/sh shebang but use "Bash-isms" (features unique to Bash), the script will fail on Ubuntu but might work on a distro where /bin/sh is symlinked to Bash. Beginners NEED to be told this!!

Halfway Review: Excellent I have been using various linux distros for a few years now, this course is great. I thought I knew a little, didn't realize how little until I started the videos. I recommend following the videos and reading the bash manual as you progress through the videos and also taking the time to do the hands on projects. Its really an easy language to learn and understand with practice. If you are looking to automate or streamline tasks this is the best place to be. I should have taken this course years ago. Wonderful instructor with clear explanations and soothing voice. I will definitely be taking his other courses. Thank you Ziyad.

This is one of the most in depth courses that I've been through. I spent over 100 hours (and counting) on the 12 hours worth of content provided. Very complex topics are broken down and explained in fairly easy to digest ways ... my only complaint is that some of the projects were paced in a way that didn't always feel cohesive to the pace of the lectures. However, overall, this was an exceedingly useful course that will be a large contributing factor in continuing upward trajectory of my IT career.

Learned a lot. Clear videos, Cheat sheets / Summaries available for the different course sections. There is just a lot of information available. The assignments help to put the learned information into practice. There are downloadable solutions for most assignments and there are videos in which the the solutions are discussed.

It is a great course, easy to follow and learn. Gives very good understanding of bash and scripting essentials. But calling it Bash Mastery is a huge overkill. As one could predict - in 10 hours of material it is impossible to get mastery in any subject. I give 4,5 stars for some mistakes in a lectures, that could be corrected but aren't. edit: After seeing another Linux Scripting course I raise my rating to 5/5 for this course.

Not only you learn all the main concepts and tools of bash, but you also will learn how does bash process command in the background which is something that helped me lot to solve problems when executing any command in bash command line or even bash script. So I would say, it is surely the most informative and practical coarse that I have seen so far, and trust me if you follow along the coarse properly than I assure you that you will be able to write your own scripts with ease.

Ziyad is a wonderful instructor and I found his teaching method extremely good. I was able to understand all concepts without problems, as they were explained in an accessible manner. Unlike other courses, which sometimes are rather exhausting, Bash Mastery never failed to keep me excited to start every lecture. Purchasing the Python Bible course from Internet of Things Academy was a no brainer for me, after completing Bash Mastery. Big thank you!

When I started this course I had high hopes based on the 4.8 rating (at the time of this review) and the teaching style of the instructor. As the course progressed, I realized I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Many of the lectures and cheat sheets (despite being nicely presented) have serious errors and misleading claims. Furthermore, the course cannot be considered a "complete" guide to bash scripting as it doesn't even cover topics such as bash functions and common bash commands such as awk and sed. It's sad that this is the highest rated popular bash course considering how much room for improvement there is. Probably the most useful information I got out of this course is that the GNU bash manual exists. If you really want to learn bash, that's a much better resource than this course.

The course was interesting but it's a lot to process for a person like me which programming is one of my weaknesses. I already did the Linux Mastery (12 hours) I will have to do other courses because one example is not enough for me to understand the concept behind all of the many things I learned in this course. I was not able to do the projects unless I had to verify the solution. I already purchased 2 other courses and will hope to catch on and understand the concepts.

---Update at finished course--- This is the best course for automation. Section 10 Scheduling and automation is the best one in my opinion, he teaches how to set up bash scripts to be executed in the future. This is basically scripting with steroids. 5 stars indeed. --- I'm starting Section 4. And I can already see that the high quality teaching is there and it's constant. Great examples, notes on every section as PDF documents, section summaries make easier to recap what I learned. I got the other course Linux mastery and I expect that top be just as great as this one.
