Course Description
Overview
This is a one-hour course that is intended for Excel users who want to learn how to automate their tasks. Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office programs, come with a powerful scripting language known as VBA. With a little bit of programming knowledge, complex tasks can be fully automated and completed in seconds. This course assumes no programming experience; only a reasonable level of familiarity with Excel.
Prerequisites
Microsoft Excel : This courses uses Excel 2007 for the demonstrations, and comes with .xlsm files for the code examples. These demos and files will be compatible with later versions of Excel as well. If you are using Excel 2003, you will not be able to open the .xlsm files, but you will be able to follow along with the demos.
What you will learn
The course begins with an introduction to macros. You will learn how to record a sequence of actions, how to run the recorded macro, and how to inspect the VBA code that gets generated from this process.
You will then learn how to use numbers in VBA. There are different types of numbers which are used in different situation, so you'll be a given an overview of the differences between them. You will be shown how to do simple arithmetic operations inside your VBA code.
You will then be introduced to strings. Strings are used in programming to represents words and characters. For example, "hello world" could be stored in your VBA code as a string. You could then perform various operations on your string, such as converting it to upper-case, replacing a word, counting the number of characters, and many others.
Then you will look at booleans, if-statements and loops. These concepts will allow you to create complex behaviors that would not have been possible by simply recording a macro. You will able to write code that implements logical rules and makes decisions.
Ranges and Worksheets will be introduced next. These objects are what will allow you to read and manipulate your Excel data from your VBA code. We will then move on to subs and functions. These will allow you to organize your code into small, cohesive pieces, making it easier to reason about complex tasks.
Finally, we will end the course with a simple, practical exercise. We will take a list of phone numbers that are in inconsistent formats, and write some code that will convert them into a standard format at the press of a button.

Learned more about Excel and got more practice coding. I loved everything about this course!

Como curso básico es muy bueno, explica bien todo lo básico y sin extenderse más de la cuenta.

I thought the instructor was clear and thorough. The class is nicely paced. I can work along with the video as the instructor is instructing, but even if I step off for a bit, I can still continue where I've left off and not feel lost.

Overall very good and informative. I would have given 5 stars but the very last excersize did not explain all the individual reasons for using certain code to do certain things. Just a quick run through of the whole code would have really helped fully understand the story.

The course started out interesting, and the instructor was thorough. However, the last two sections felt rushed. In particular, I had to stop and try to analyze the last one for some time, but in the end could not understand some of the parts he programmed in, especially in the "ExtractDigits" function. Even if, for sake of argument, I should've somehow understood the course completely, the course did not accomplish its stated goal of making me a VBA Expert. The course just doesn't run deep enough or give the student anywhere to go from its abrupt end. In the Q&A, other students attempted to interact with the instructor 9 months ago (as of Oct '16), but their questions remain unanswered.

Good pace, not too fast, not to slow. Does not take for granted that learner knows fundamental concepts.

The information in the course is relevant and it is useful, but from my prospective, I would like to get more practical examples. Some real data which it will be real useful. How to implement those marcos, loops and etc. How to implement this with the control panels.

I liked the course and thought it was good. Would have liked if there was a handout at the beginning with the types of macros that would be used with definitions. A little more instruction at the beginning about the visual basic and immediate window would have been nice too. Still a good course.

Structure of languages is important and I don't know why there wasn't more explanation on the overall structure of VBA programing and how to understand objects. At least they could have referenced a VBA help of some kind. My suspicion is that it will be easy to get off the trail and not know why a macro isn't working or not no how to approach a new macro. Too much of a quick review of basic programming of macros. Simple "whats" and no real "whys"

Ross delivered this course in a clear succinct way in which I could easily follow along. I've only made one run through the course and have an intuitive understanding of Excel VBA and am ready to start implementing in a project. I'm sure I'll need to refer to the course one or two more times, however, it's been delivered so well I'm confident that after going through the material a few more times I'll have the fundamentals covered. Good job!
