Course Description

This course has everything you need to start playing classical guitar. Even if you have no experience or musical training, you can start playing classical guitar faster than you might think. The course material is structured so that you will make steady progress building your skills and playing solo pieces on the classical guitar.

The main goal of the course is to play the great Spanish composition "Malaguena." You will also learn several other pieces/songs: "Spanish Cancion," "Ode to Joy," and "The Pami Song." Along the way you will pick up many helpful practice tips. This course will help you go from being a non-guitarist to a guitarist, as you will be able to enjoy playing real pieces of music all the way through.

Learning is easy because the video lectures feature multiple camera angles, letting you see the hands clearly whether you are watching on a computer, tablet, or phone. Every lecture that includes a musical example has a PDF file of that musical example written out in standard musical notation and in guitar tablature.

The musical exercises, scales, and songs are the result of years of teaching students in-person and online, and everything is designed to help you start playing the best in the shortest amount of time.

Classical guitar is a beautiful art form, but it can be intimidating. If you have ever wanted to learn to play classical guitar but were worried that it would take years of struggle, or would require some sort of special background or skills, then this course will be perfect for you. There are no shortcuts, but playing classical guitar doesn't need to be difficult or frustrating.

Learning from an online video course means that you can go at your own pace and re-watch the lectures as many times as you want, all on your own schedule from the comfort of your own home. When you are playing classical guitar pieces all the way through you will be glad that you took the first step.

While there is a lot of great information in the course, the real value lies in the sequencing of the information. In this course you will never be asked to play something or do a certain technique without being prepared for it. When you watch and listen to a good classical guitarist, what you are seeing is someone who has put together the mechanics of playing in the correct sequence, so that everything flows. Putting things in the proper sequence is something that is really important. It will allow you make progress quickly and with ease.

Instructor Details

Brian Riggs

My name is Brian Riggs and I am a classical guitarist and guitar teacher from Chicago, IL. I have a degree in classical guitar performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, and I've played in master classes with some amazing guitarists, most notably Christopher Parkening at his class at Montana State University.

I want to share what I've learned from those experiences with as many people as possible; Some of my most satisfying musical experiences have been seeing students make progress and become musicians in their own right. I've taught thousands of lessons in person and I've had the great experience of helping people fulfill their musical goals and realizing their potential as guitarists.

So far so good!

Concise, to the point and reasons are given why posture, position of guitar, length of nails are important.

Very nice and enjoyable! Brain spares no detail on left hand and right hand techniques, he even shows what the correct technique feels like. All in all, a short and sweet course that helped me correct my ways in playing the classical guitar. Thank you, Brain, for this course.

Awesome! I've watched all the Classic Guitar Courses previews from all the teachers before buying this one. I'm just at the beginning, and I really, really like what I see and hear. I took one-on-one 'live' guitar classes in the past and NEVER did we get into so much details about the basics. People might think: "yeah, well that's only a 2 hours course". To that I say: (1) The guy's mother tongue is English, so there is more information coming in per minute than what I saw in other courses' previews. The rate is more fluid as a consequence, which makes the course more enjoyable. (2) I don't fell like I am being spoken to like I was 5 years old. This course definitely aimed at adults. (3) You will not have to go through 20 kindergarten level music scores before practicing something enjoyable; which really sounds like a classical guitar song. I am rarely enthusiastic about stuff, so kudos to you Brian Briggs!

Excellent instruction and continuity. An interactive section would be nice, as well as 2nd and 3rd courses, etc.

Thank you - an accessible, enjoyable course for complete beginners. Thanks!

I used this course to restart playing classical guitar. As a teenager I had lessons for about one year, after that I gave up. I wasn‘t motivated and I made very little progress. This course covers all technical aspects of playing well but not too detailed. The focus of this course is more on playing guitar and playing joyfully and motivated. I enjoyed this course very much and I made more progress than I anticipated. I wish my guitar lessons as a teenager had been more like this course. On the other hand I had some (long time ago) experience with classiscal guitar, I can read notes, rhythms etc. Therefore I am not sure if this course is suitable for a total beginner without any knowledge or experience.

It was a good match - some parts were a bit basic, but review is never wasted. Unfortunately, life got in the way, so I need to run through it again from the start.
