The course is video-based, and there are a variety of camera angles showing each example in detail. There are also PDF files of the sheet music for each musical example and piece in both regular notes and guitar tablature.
Having good technique is important when you're playing classical guitar, but it's equally important to have an outlet where you can use those techniques. That's why this course finished by helping you learn to play 3 great pieces of music, "Alman" by Luis Milan, "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by J.S. Bach, and the famous "Spanish Romance."

Brian Riggs
My name is Brian Riggs and I am a classical guitarist and guitar teacher from Chicago, IL. I have a degree in classical guitar performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, and I've played in master classes with some amazing guitarists, most notably Christopher Parkening at his class at Montana State University.
I want to share what I've learned from those experiences with as many people as possible; Some of my most satisfying musical experiences have been seeing students make progress and become musicians in their own right. I've taught thousands of lessons in person and I've had the great experience of helping people fulfill their musical goals and realizing their potential as guitarists.

It is a good course and it covers all I want to learn about classical guitar playing. But he does repeat a lot of things he covered in his first course - finger notation, sitting and hand position, differences in guitars, etc...

As a former rhythm guitar playing song-leader and choral music educator, I was hoping for focus specifically on playing the guitar for classical -- position, finger technique, etc. and Not basic musicianship. I just want to add this instrument to my 'tool bag' for personal pleasure. So far he's exactly on target.

Engaging and concise lessons, doesn't waste any time. I was slightly worried about starting a guitar course because I already play acoustic guitar (fingerpicking) at an intermediate level but this course is really helping me approach it from a classical perspective, which is exactly what I was looking for. I can imagine it would take a lot more practice if I was approaching it as a complete beginner, but it's going quite smoothly so far.

Brian is a fantastic teacher. He takes complex pieces and breaks them down into easily comprehensible bits with clear explanations and close-ups. (I'm on a couple of more of his courses where he teaches Leyenda which I've always wanted to play and thanks to Brian I'm able to play it).

I was under the impression that this was beginner classical guitar but when you reference other lectures you've given I feel as if I needed to take a different guitar course prior to this one. As a beginner guitar player I need much clearer detail of what finger is hitting which string on which fret and when--it's too tough to figure out in these videos. E.g. can you please send me the fingerings written out on sheet music? It would also be helpful to see this superimposed on your screen as you're playing. Please let me know your thoughts.

Very good instruction - addresses a lot of possible pain points for the student as well as potential pitfalls one is likely to fall into. I have one of his other courses and it is the same quality instruction. This is about as good as you're going to get short of in person instruction.

Great teacher. Seems to anticipate student's anxiety and questions as you go through each new technique. Encouraging and kind voice and relaxed manner. Classes well-organized to prepare for new songs. Helpful camera angles. The ability to bookmark repeat points, circumventing lead-in discussion material, and to regulate speeds are great features. Enrolled in 3 courses. Highly recommend this particular class in choice of classic songs and great preparation to succeed in learning them.

Very detailed. Nice progression of exercises. I'm happy to see that so much focus is on holding the guitar, positioning the fingers, and touching the strings. It's tough to make something sound nicely trying to teach this to myself, so I'm very appreciative of this teaching style. I also like his personality. Seems like a good guy.

I enjoyed this course very much. Brian has a fantastic way of explaining things clearly and in easily understood language. He takes just the right amount of time to explain things, and he realizes how valuable it is to see the guitar from different angles so that you really understand. I highly recommend this course for anyone wanting to improve technique. I still have a lot of practicing to do, but Brian also lays that out well. He makes sure you know what you are trying to accomplish.

Brian gives great instruction for techniques and tips. He draws from his own experience. Some of them I can relate to easily because they are from my own experience. I enjoy going back through lessons from time to time because I always find something that I can incorporate and change from what I'm doing. Thanks, Brian.
