John Robson
John has been playing the guitar since the age of 11. He began his guitar journey on a Woolworths Top 20 guitar, plugged into the mic socket of his Amstrad “music centre” (as stereos were called back then).
Before long he was playing in school bands and started gigging at the tender age of 14. On finishing school he trained as a radio officer for the merchant navy.
Then, after a brief spell working in a test lab for a Japanese electronics company, (whilst plying his trade as a guitarist for hire on the local circuit by night), John “turned professional” as a guitarist in the early 1990s.
Since then he's played in a hugely diverse range of bands, from top-40 covers bands & classic country acts through to alt-rock indie groups & blues bands. He's also carved out a reputation as a session player & sideman for various touring & recording musicians in his native Teesside.
John's influences are varied & include “all the usual suspects” as he puts it, plus a few you may not expect... Eric Clapton; Gary Moore; Jeff Beck; Kenny Burrell; Miles Davis; Joe Satriani; Edward Elgar & Chuck Berry to name but a few.
These days, John puts food on the table by teaching a select group of students from his home studio in Redcar, as well as recording his own brand of original, melodic, bluesy rock guitar music, which is available across all major platforms & via his website

To show off some licks according to the chord isn't really what i have been waiting for!

Once again, he gave us something we can use right away. No millions licks, shapes or scales... but useful principles put into practice, that we can vary on our own.

Like it says on the label, if the pentatonic is all you know, this will give you some new crayons, and some understanding of the theory behind it all. John comes across as a friendly guy who is able to explain everything well. Check out some of his YouTube videos if you are in doubt. Cheers John!

This is excellent for me. I have come back at 75 to playing the guitar after a 30 year lay off, and this is helping me to get back some of the knowledge I have lost and also to learn new ideas and techniques. John seems a very approachable guy and explains things very clearly. He is also an excellent guitarist.

Course was exactly as described. John's teaching is so accessable and to the point.

The lessons were great and I am extremely content with what I have learned. Mr Robson makes the theory (some basic notions of harmony) simpler than most books and then teaches you how you can add all those flavours to the pentatonic scale, in order to sound more bluesy in the right way. It made an after and before concerning my style of playing lead guitar. I highly recommend this course.

John Robson is a fantastic guitar teacher. I have been playing for nearly 50 years but in that time have mainly copied solos, licks, riffs etc note for note in my playing. This of course has 2 downsides....1. If you mess up you have nowhere to go and 2. you are not playing from the heart but really just copying other people. Using this course you can discover why certain notes work over certain chords, and know that whatever you play will always work. The material presented in this course will show you how to develop your own style and expand your knowledge to play with confidence, which of course makes playing the guitar so much more enjoyable. John puts everything across in a simple, easy to understand way without waffling. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.

I think have taken on a lot more than I thought but I will give it a good go. It is a little advanced for my skills and problems but what an amazingly nice bloke and excellent tutor you are. Looking forward to finding the pdf's and with practicing playing along with the backing tracks (not found any of that yet). Thank you.

John breaks everything down into manageable 'bite sized' logical steps which are easy to follow. Excellent course!

This course is as what it claims- beyond the pentatonic. It is organized in a logical manner with appropriate resources to follow the lessons. Explanations are clear and concise and illustrates the musical diversity of blues should one desire. overall one of the best (possibly the best) blues course available.
