Content Overview

This course is structured to serve as reference material, so you can go through the whole course in around one week, but, as your freelance career progresses, you will probably want to go back for refreshers, so to see how various steps can apply to your new situation.

Most of this course will be taught via videos, with some written notes and explanations for those wishing to go further in depth in their career as a freelance translator.

By the end of this course, you will be able to use your knowledge of languages to earn your own money online. You will know what is important in working for yourself, how to make yourself employable to new clients, and how to retain them once they have chosen you as a translator.

The world is becoming increasingly global, while jobs are less and less secure, and the Internet is, by now, near universal. Combine all these factors, and you have a perfect storm of opportunity for people who speak more than one language.

You've learned your language, and this course concentrates on what to do next, so you can use your abilities to choose jobs and clients that interest you. In other words, you can become a freelance translator.

This course covers every aspect of translation that a beginner to the industry should know . I have no prior experience in translation and wanted knowledge and information that could guide me in understanding this industry. I find this course comprehensive and insightful dealing with the nuances of the translation business . The tips and guidance that I came across will hopefully help me in embarking on this new path in my professional life.

I have found the course very informative! It is ideal for someone who wants to build a freelance translator career from scratch. I completed my degree in translation 5 years ago and I am now looking to start translating. I feel the course has given me the tools and the confidence to face agencies or find new clients (fingers crossed). The only improvement I would encourage is to see Robert more! Sometimes looking at a slide with key information is useful but my attention seems to be better if I am able to see the lecturer every now and then. Still, really good course Robert! I hope I can come back soon with some useful and successful experience to share with you. Thanks!

It is really a very good course. I would just suggest one thing to be added to the course. I have never worked as an official Full-Time/Freelance Translator before except for a few contracts I translated them (for my manager) from Arabic to English in my previous job as a coordinator. But I have always been in love with languages especially English. I like to speak and write in a perfect way. My mother tongue is Arabic. That's why I thought I can use my language skills and translate. So I wish if there was a part included in the course concentrating on how to introduce myself (on Proz.com, Translatorscafe.com, LinkedIn, etc.) to clients and agencies to work with them (even for free for sometime) without mentioning that I have years of experience as a Translator.

The course gave me everything I was expecting and something else. I just got hired for a freelance transcription for an enterprise with pretty bad reviews. I'm gonna take as a first experience because, probably, it's being for free, and that's ok for a first job. Anyways, now I feel confident and with enough market/professional knowledge to get through this conscious scamming and hope the coming steps gonna be fair.

The course is true to the description and matched my expectations. Not too technical and sometimes maybe too "conversational", but always clear and direct. It gave me a good, general overview of what it means to live as a freelance translator, and Robert has also been generous in giving away a lot of tips on techniques, advices, workflow and software he uses. I would recommend this course to anyone considering the option of working as a freelance translator.

I never imagined there was so much to learn! There are a few technical glitches that would improve the quality of the course - such as much of videos 21 and 42 are out of focus, and I had difficulties making video 20 play. I REALLY appreciate the COVID update!! It also shows how committed the instructor is to our success!!

By Alice Pavoni on 3/17/2020

The content is clear even if some of the sections are a bit updated. I found the instructor's recommendations quite useful and I will sure try to follow all the steps indicated. I've quickly checked the background of Robert, he seems a reliable person and entrepreneur and he knows what he is talking about. I will surely edit my comment in case of any future news. I also appreciated the fact that the instructor replied to my questions in a quick and detailed manner. Thanks for this course!

I am sorry for being so critical of the course in the following review, but I see it as a way of improving. The tips given in the course are good but there are some missing items and some flaws, among them: - CAT tools are very poorly described. He barely mentions Trados and one or two more, but discredits them stating that a glossary would be as good. CAT tools are very much needed when you have to translate a document and customer wants it to look as close as possible to the original. That saves a lot of time in formating. Moreover, some translation companies work only with translators that use CAT tools (ok he mentions this). - He does not mention anything about localization. This is a main job for translators nowadays. At least one section must have been dedicated to it, describing the tools used and how it works. - Screen recordings are poorly prepared. Every so often he is unable to find what he is looking for in the website and uses silly terms like "this is more or less what I wanted to show you", "I have been having problems with my computer lately", "this is a very complicated website", etc. To me all those are poor excuses for a poorly made video. It seems those videos were made in a rush and hence the poor quality.

For the past few months or so I've been dabbling with the idea of becoming a freelance translator but I didn't quite know where to start and what to expect. Luckily, I found this course which provided me with all the information I needed and more. I'd recommend this course to anybody who is just starting out as a freelance translator and doesn't quite know what to do. The course is well structured, informative and will definitely make one's journey of becoming a freelance translator easier and more enjoyable.

By Neil Pyper on 8/4/2019

This is an excellent course. It is informative, well organised, clear and above all actionable. It gave me the push to take the necessary steps to dip my toe in the water of freelance translation after many years of wondering how to do this. There was also a lot of useful advice and information about freelancing more generally. I would certainly recommend the course very highly to anyone interested in finding out about freelance translation. Many thanks!
