Course Description

The Business Analysis Competencies: Personal Skills (IIBA-ECBA) is the 12th course of the Business Analysis Certification Program which includes a total of 14 courses. This course is the first in a two-part series on business analysis competencies, or underlying competencies, as they're called in the BABOK Guide.

These competencies represent skills and knowledge that all business analysts should have in order to excel at their jobs. There are six categories of competencies altogether, and in this course we'll be looking at three of them: analytical thinking and problem solving, communication skills, and interaction skills.

In addition to covering the core competency areas, this course is highly practical. You’ll apply concepts through scenario-based exercises, short knowledge checks, and downloadable templates you can reuse on the job—such as problem statements, stakeholder maps, and communication plans. Each module links back to the BABOK® Guide so you can see exactly how the skills align with industry standards and how they’re assessed on the ECBA™ exam.

I'm Sorin Dumitrascu. I work as an advisor for an international humanitarian organization. Until 2025 I was City Manager of Ploiești, Romania (a city budget of about EUR 200 million), and earlier I was Deputy Director General of Romania's prison service. Since 2015 I have published nearly 200 courses here, taken by more than 360,000 learners.

This course is amazing! I really enjoyed it and it was very helpful. The instructor, Sorin Dumitrascu, is very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience in the business analysis field. He explains everything very clearly and makes sure that everyone understands the concepts. The exercises are also very helpful and provide a lot of practice. Overall, this course is definitely worth taking if you want to become a business analyst.

I like this course because it teaches business analysis skills in a fun, engaging way. The instructor is easy to follow and the course is easy to follow as well. There is a lot of speaking, so it might be difficult to follow at times but the lectures are easy to understand. I like that there is a supplementary video with exercises available to help you practice what you learned and there is also a quizes section where you can practice what you have learned.

About the teacher - Mr.Sorin Dumitrascu: His voice is easy to listen to, the flow of content that he deliveries is stable, pretty smooth, in the context of a pretty hard topic like that, I think you guys will not fall asleep when studying. About the knowledge, it tells you which SKILLs you must train or pay attention to learn, it is suited for the beginner who takes the first steps in the path of Business Analysis. The course is not comprised of Analytic Model or knowledge related to how get the information from the static.
