Course Description

Do you want to move beyond operations and start speaking the language of business?
Are you ready to understand the numbers that drive profitability, growth, and smart decision-making?

This course, Business Finance: A Complete Introduction, gives manufacturing, engineering, and quality professionals a practical, hands-on foundation in finance. Whether you’re preparing for leadership, managing budgets, or simply want to understand the financial impact of your work, this is the place to start.

What You’ll Learn:

We’ve designed this course to take you from “finance beginner” to “business fluent” in three clear sections:

1. The Basics of Business Accounting

Accounting is the language of business—and once you speak it, you can understand the story behind any organization. You’ll learn the core terms every professional must know (assets, liabilities, equity, accruals, revenue recognition), and how to read and interpret the four main financial statements:

  • Balance Sheet

  • Income Statement

  • Cash Flow Statement

  • Statement of Owners’ Equity

2. Financial Ratio Analysis

Learn how to pull actionable insights from financial statements and measure a company’s health in four key areas:

  • Profitability

  • Liquidity

  • Solvency

  • Efficiency

You’ll use included Excel templates to practice calculating and interpreting ratios, and you’ll see how managers compare results across time and against competitors.

3. Return on Investment (ROI) and Capital Projects

Should you invest in new equipment? Expand capacity? Launch a new product line? In this section, you’ll learn:

  • How to estimate relevant costs and revenues over the life of a project.

  • How to account for risk and the time value of money.

  • How to build an ROI model in Excel to calculate Net Present Value (NPV).

These are the same tools managers use to make multi-million-dollar decisions.

Why This Course Is Different:

  • Made for manufacturing professionals – Real-world examples from factories, supply chains, and engineering projects.

This course was incredibly insightful and served as an excellent refresher on key financial concepts. It reinforced my understanding of the balance sheet, income statement, and the interpretation of financial ratios, making it easier to connect financial performance to business decision-making.

Excellent! This is my third course on this topic, and it's by far the best! The explanations are so clear that even a finance newbie can easily understand them. The only 2 things are missing to bring it to perfection are cashflow projection and budgeting. Otherwise, it's a top course!

Very interesting course with Excel worksheets allowing to follow the calculations. Lots of concepts which may need further digging as needed. The instructor is able to pass these tools with the right wording. Also fast & useful online response to questions. Thank you !

The course is not worth the full price. Its a good value if you get it for less than $30-$40. The quizzes contain errors, and the examples used to explain certain terms like depreciate are the same throughout the entire course. The course is also unbearable unless you watch at 1.5x speed. However, this while this course has many negatives. There are also many positives. Sections 2 and 3 are actually very insightful for beginners. The course is structured in a decent way as well.

As an engineer, my skills on accounting were relatively limited but this course gave me very good basics to understand business accounting. I now know the financial wordings and can read and understand financial reports (Balace Sheet, Income Statement and Cash flow Statement).

I’ve taken a number of online accounting and business finance courses. I found the style and the pace of this course to be easy to follow yet at the same time full of very useful information. I look forward to applying these practises to my own business and projects.

Good short course. It's only an introduction of course. But a clear, well structured, solid one. It feels well rounded up and gives a good roadmap of what to learn more about for a non-financial professional. The part I was less clear about is the connection between money and time. Different points of the course where we go from $ to days. That is very abstract and could definitely use more explanations on the rationale behind these simplified calculations. But probably that would be too much for the scope of this intro. That's OK, I know that's the next thing I would try to understand better in my further learning. Good course overall.

Yes, very good foundation for someone without a financial background. I'll be reviewing it periodically. I think Ray done very well by keeping a slow steady tempo in teaching that helped to internalize. thanks again Jay

A really well taught course - very clear and at a great pace for beginners to business accounting like myself. I work in a commercial role but don't have any financial or accounting training, and I found it was perfect for explaining the basics of how business finance works. It's great to have the reference documents too to go back to when I'm in a real life example.
