I can say this course is definitely for someone who wants to start creating sound but has no idea about it. It is an absolutely entry level course, and it is advertised as such, and it fulfils its purpose. I started this course probably two years ago, when I was first considering what to buy for my planned micro home studio. I didn't know anything about equipment and software because as a studio and concert classical musician, I was just entering a studio and playing my part. I wanted to do some of my own music. In this course, I found information about the equipment types, all in one place. What was cool, is that there are recordings of different microphones taken in the same place and position (circumstances), so I could see the difference of "the final effect". I also like that you guys explain the differences between microphones, studio/room set up, and effects in simple language (I'm not a native English speaker). This helped me to distinguish subtle differences. Basically the most useful part for me was the equipment part at the beginning of my home studio journey. Two years later, I came back to Udemy for mixing courses followed by mastering course, and I found that I never finished this course on basics of audio production. I watched it all till the end and took notes as always. I have to say that guys focus on this Audacity program which I never used. I have it and it's good to learn about it just in case if I'm on the other end of the world without my software and all the plug-ins. I am not a fan of this software but it is free, it works for professionals (I watched some interviews of voice over actors) so it definitely clicks into the category of absolute beginner but offers reliable information and solutions. Actually after two years I didn't need this course anymore, but I watched it till the end. I give 4.5 stars for the information was a bit repetitive. Now, that bored me a bit, but I can imagine a total beginner might be grateful that you repeat names of things, phrases, and point things evidently so the viewer cannot get confused even if they hear about all thse things for the first time. Thank you, greetings from Indonesia.

the course is good, but not all the tools or programs could be used by Windows, which currently I use. That´s sad. Moreover, the general impression is that that is the review of the microphones and one program. My expectations were for more topics to be covered.

Having completed the course, there are no practice exercises. You simply watch videos. This is OK for exposure to content, but not the best for true learning. The lessons about hardware options are good and present simple, accurate descriptions of appropriate hardware. The heart of the course for me are the sections on editing and mixing audio. These sections use Pro Tools First. When editing and mixing audio with Pro Tools First you can repeat what was demonstrated as practice. One example audio file is provided that covers most of the lessons. Overall a decent overview of audio production. The course won't make you an instant expert, but will guide you for getting started and for further learning. I'm not sure why many lessons are provided comparing various types of hardware options, but there is no equivalent lesson comparing the various available audio editing software options.

Great course and introduction for beginners who know little about audio recording and there's also helpful tidbits for intermediate users as well. Definitely focused on voice recording so if you're looking for a course on mixing/mastering music I'd look elsewhere but otherwise it was a great course!

Great course! This course provides great value if you already have some audio mixing and editing experience. The course doesn't provide project files to work with, which might be difficult if you are an absolute beginner. However, you could record similar files on your own to use. The concepts taught could apply to many different editing platforms, but I would suggest looking for a course specific to your preferred platform if you have a hard time understanding the concepts of audio editing/mixing (different programs have different names for different tools). Great instructors though. I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it.

There is a lot of information to digest in the course, especially towards the end when the ProTools section starts. The teachers are knowledgable and can really help, you just need to digest the course slowly, with great focus. If you're looking for a quick fix, this course does not serve that learning style. It is a course that is better suited to slow learners.

i am just starting with audio recording and mixing and i find this course extremely helpful. it doesn't go too much into details which is good because you don't wanna be overwhelmed with information when starting. it will give you all the informations you need for the next step. thank you, keep up the good work

Great course! As a life-long musician getting started in video production, this was a great course. Not only will it help with my videos but I'll also be able to better communicate with the sound guy when I play. Before this course I did the whole YouTube "How To" route but this was clear, concise, covered everything. Strongly suggest!

As a 62 year old who has never recorded or mixed anything, I am very impressed by this course. I hope to record self-hypnosis files (as soon as I collect the necessary equipment) and wanted to go through this course first to see if I found myself capable of all this. I had no need to worry. A wonderful course and I am very glad I took it.

Although I didn't learn much of anything new, I still think this is a great basic course as it will help me to explain to non-professionals how I edit/produce music videos. It did confirm that I've been doing it right all these years (lol). I would have liked some additional examples of mixing music tracks (before and after) just to show what can be done and not to try teaching that whole skill set. I think it could spark interest in some students to continue onward into audio recording careers. That was my only reason for not giving the course 5 stars.
