Course Description

According to a recent study conducted by a major Cyber Security firm, less than half the online population understands the term "Firewalls" - or know if they have one enabled on their PC.

Firewalls are even more important in a corporate or work environment. It not only keeps the corporate network safe - but can also optimize traffic routing and provide a whole range of other benefits.

If you are connected to the Internet, you are a potential target to an array of cyber threats, such as hackers, keyloggers, and Trojans that attack through unpatched security holes. This means that if you, like most people shop and bank online, are vulnerable to identity theft and other malicious attacks.

A firewall works as a barrier, or a shield, between your PC and cyberspace. When you are connected to the Internet, you are continually sending and receiving information in small units called packets. The firewall filters these packets to see if they meet certain criteria set by a series of rules, and after that blocks or allows the data. This way, hackers cannot get inside and steal information such as bank account numbers and passwords from you.

Basic firewalls such as the one included in your operating systems, only monitor incoming traffic by default. This may give you a false sense of security. Keep in mind, outgoing traffic, with your credit card information, bank accounts, and social security number is not protected. A good firewall will monitor traffic in both directions. That is, both your incoming data and your outgoing data, keeping your private information safe. In addition to preventing unauthorized access to your PC, it also makes your PC invisible when you're online, helping prevent attempted intrusions in the first place.

Firewalls are one of the most critical parts of a network. It’s the first line of defense that your system has against attacks or unwanted visitors, and it makes all the difference in ensuring your data is protected. pfSense is a highly versatile, open source routing and firewall software. The visualizations were helpful. The personal stories were engaging and added more of a real-life experience. The content was explained clearly and audio quality and production was very high quality. The information was made easy for a beginner to understand the implementation concept and features of Pfsense.

This course is perfect for learning what PFSense is used for, generally speaking. It is a VERY high level overview of its function in a network with a good explanation of why you would want to use it and install it so you can get started fiddling around. In depth explanations and demonstration of the nearly overwhelming amount of tools PFSense provides is way outside the scope of this. Great Job everyone!!

Hi TetraNoodle Team , After Greetings My Name is Mostafa Hamed from Egypt. I'm a new enrolled student in your course "Crash Course: Manage Network Security With pfSense Firewall" and i have some comments after watched first 5 videos in the course. 1-The resourses link now is not avaliable. 2- The Caption has alot of mistakes as the instructor say the word in the right pronunciation but it's written in a wrong spelling in the caption. I'll try to provide you with any thing else i discover And hope i could message you directly.

Excellent introduction, though a bit too introductory. I guess it's a personal issue - no one size matches all. I would like to get more advanced/specific training regarding different network configurations and best configurations to meet different security requirements. In other words - hands-on/best practices. Thank you.

Great Course for Overview of pfsense and for clarity and to the point. Just quick note not sure if it was me didnt hear properly but regarding the comments with private IP address range u mentioned the subnet bits were 8 12 and 16? i though they were 8, 16 and 24, Also the course outline that i contains information on Squid however there was no section what so ever on Squid hardly a mention of it. U definitely need and MUST add section about Squid. Thank U...

Was expecting a course and not a superficial introduction to what pfSense can be used for. Netgate youtube channel has a lot more information than this "course". Its free so I guess "you get what you pay for" applies here. I choose "Average" (3 star) because the content, although scarce, is explained clearly and the organization of the information is good.

Although this is an abbreviated version of the main course, it offers a more in-depth instruction as to what is needed to be done at what stage. Not to bad for 60+ man trying to understand this whole IT world that we live in and will be for the foreseeable future. I will recommend this course to anyone who wants to get into these courses as this particular course has proved itself to certainly be a College material worth knowing.
