Hi there, my name is Scott Duffy. And I love making complex technical topics easy to understand.
This has been the basis of my entire career – as a developer, as a development manager, as a software architect – over the past 20 years. I spend half my time in the world of business, explaining complex technical topics to business owners and stakeholders so that they can understand and agree with my approach to solving their business problems with technical solutions. And the other half with developers, explaining the business reasons behind decisions and ensuring that any decisions made on the technical side don't restrict the business in unexpected ways.
And I'm here on Udemy to teach what I know in an approachable way. I started teaching courses in 2014, and have taught over 1,600,000 students. I am grateful every day for being able to connect with so many students in almost every country around the world.
I'm a certified Enterprise Architect and certified cloud architect. I have been developing with Microsoft technologies for 20 years, starting with Classic ASP, and all the versions of .NET. We now live in the cloud era, with Microsoft Azure being prevalent in most large enterprises. I'm certified as an Azure Architect and Developer too. As well as AWS Solution Architect Associate (SAA).
Microsoft MVP Award winner for 2022-2025.

Content was good. Instructor was very clear on the level he was providing. It exceeded my expectations as I was not expecting to show how to deploy using Templates, and Bash. Instructor made it clear that he didn't use subnets and network security which should be configured in production. So those two made my rate to be 5 stars as a free materials.

I liked the class. While I have taken some Azure (infrastructure) training previously, I'm looking to take some Azure SQL training, and I like the instructors flow so I will likely look to pick his for the goal of eventually taking the DP300 exam. As far as suggestions: 1) Have the two FE servers have their default web reflect which host they are on. So as you cycle thru request, you can visually validate redundant responses. 2) Have some interaction with the BE servers. 3) Have some interaction with SQL.

I think the only flaw with this course was how quickly Azure changed things lol. Also explaining where to get the deploy.sh file would've been great but I would've learned a lot less because I ended up having to create my own from scratch. Perhaps a quick addition that would have been much appreciated though would be SSH and how to implement it properly into your script particularly if you want to use different SSH keys between your machines. Also discussing the new bastion feature would've been really great as well!

I feel like there were a lot of "on-the-fly" changes and fixes that could've been explained more, and I hope there's an update to this course for the changes to the linux vm duplication that have occured, but otherwise, this was a REALLY helpful, hands-on tutorial that allowed me to have a more visualized/realized understanding of the concepts I've been learning, as well as learning a very efficient set up to use for an application!

A very very well spent 90 mins course on Azure. It made me do something that i had been procrastinating, that is, i usually watch videos in courses BUT do not try them in the Azure portal. BUT, this course made me go the portal and try out everything that was explained and that makes me extremely happy taking this course. Doubts * How OR do we connect the front end LB and the Backend load balancer. Not sure if it was explained. * Do you have a course for the AZ-303. Would love that course from you. Thx.

I felt the course was a good insight into creating the raw framework of an infrastructure environment. To do that in a relatively short period of time was helpful in learning more about MS Azure, so thanks for that. On the improvement side, I felt clearer resource naming and reasoning would have helped things flow more smoothly. Also, having a working app end goal would have helped see the flow demo. I also got a bit confused on the load-balancer groups when it was mentioned to put backend servers into the frontend load-balancing group. I think completing each full layer would have helped lock in that layer's configuration and function. I also saw no link between the Linux backend servers and the DB. Again, having a simple app or query to exploit all layers would have made for a stronger flow demo.

Overall this was an excellent overview. Very worthwhile. Takes about 3 hours with stopping and starting if you are following along in your own Azure instance. The one place where he does magic is in creating the public RSA for the Ubuntu boxes, it would be great to simply create one using Cloud Shell. The one area where I got lost was in downloading the scripts to run the ARM templates, I am going to have to redo that section and play around with it, so maybe that needs more clarity (or maybe it is just me : ) And it might be useful in the final cleanup section to mention how to clean up all the resources that were created; I think I simply need to delete the main resource group, but I'll be experimenting. Overall a great introduction.

This is one of the great course I completed on Udemy. I liked the way instructor covered so many topics in such a small time. I am sure instructor is very experienced and having a lot of real world experience. I liked a lot of Azure features and how quickly and easily it can be configured. Such as Automatic database fail over can be configured easily. Also recommended fail-over region based on data connection speed between region is provided. I enjoyed this learning experience and soon looking to learn more of Azure cloud offerings.

This was a good refresher to keep my skills up to date. Thank you so much for the course! Additional topics that I would like to see in this course are: - Monitoring, diagnostics and troubleshooting the 3-tier app. - Setting up an actual application with connection strings to the db(considerations for failover etc). Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just a simple working app.
