Although we will be learning SQL using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio the skills learned in this course will easily transfer to other database languages (MySQL) and database management systems (Postgres, Oracle, etc.). The purpose of this course is to help you feel comfortable working with complex data and writing SQL scripts while becoming familiar with healthcare data.
It doesn’t matter whether you work in healthcare or not, the examples in this course will help you learn SQL. Individuals who know SQL are in high demand. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that many SQL experts make over $100,000 per year! Data analytics is a growing field and understanding SQL is essential to becoming an analytics expert.
During this course we will:
Learn the basics to SQL and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Write complex SQL syntax - Starting with the basics
Create Databases and inserting thousands of values
Analyze thousands of rows of data – real world healthcare data
Prepare data for visualizations such as PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
Design Entity Relationship Diagrams
Aggregate, format, and modify data using SQL operators and functions
Gain experience with Big Data and solving complex questions using data
Learn SQL Joins – working with multiple tables and databases
Practice, Practice, Practice.

Curtis Norman
Hello, my name is Curtis and I enjoy solving problems. More specifically, I enjoy solving problems through logical, strategic, and data-driven thinking. I studied finance before finding my passion for healthcare, which led to studying healthcare administration at the University of Minnesota. My passion for healthcare come when my daughter was born prematurely, only weighing 1 lb at birth. This passion was inspired by clinical professionals who are driven to help patients heal. I love knowing that my work is in turn helping clinicians and patients. I've recently found a love for teaching complex subjects and simplifying them.

i'm on chap 4. I am blown away by the teaching style. I'm watching at 2.0 speed, but I absolutely love the focus on teaching hotkey usage, that is exactly how I like to use applications as well. Almost feels like maybe you've played starcraft before. Excellent flow so far, I love your quick and methodical to the point explanations and step by step instructions. I am going to bed excited to dig into this more the next day.

It was a great match for me as I became more comfortable creating and updating databases and tables, and executing intermediate (and some advanced) SQL queries. I also got quite comfortable utilizing SSMS. My only critiques are that more advanced concepts like window functions could have been covered, and there could have been more emphasis on adhering to style guides when writing SQL syntax.

This was a great refresher of SQL and introduction for how to apply complex SQL concepts, syntax, and methodologies into using healthcare data. I believe this is an invaluable course with a lot of great information and knowledge on how to apply using SQL to help solve healthcare related data questions. I found the instructor to be very knowledgeable and thorough in their explanations, and the mix of challenging/intermedia questions was great for building templates to learn from running the data in real-time. Great course, thank you for the opportunity.

As someone coming into SQL with no experience at any level of coding aside from very basic html, this online course from Mr. Norman has been an excellent one for me and I highly recommend it to anyone who want to give SQL a try. I have learned and understood so much with just this course alone and I would confidently say this is one of the best value courses I have taken. If you want to take a step into SQL, regardless of your background or experience, look no further.

Thank you for the course. I think that it was defiantly good to practice SQL skills and syntax - and was able to follow along for most of the course, until reaching section 9 and 10. I use a Mac OS, and had to jump several loops (Docker / Azure DS / MS SQL Server ) to get this installed on my Mac, and was ultimately not successful in installing the data from the excel file. Furthermore as a Healthcare provider I am a little less interested in the Financial issues as depicted in the course, although very interisting my interest would be looking into new and fresh ways to analyse health care data, ie. diagnosis, treatment and perhaps consider environmental factors that may lead to pt becoming ill for example carcinogenic chemicals / plants in the area. So I would suggest the course name is perhaps slightly misleading, as there is a component of HC data in the course, this does not seem to be the course focus, and is perhaps more financial in nature, with the focus on payments, payment gaps etc. If the course name was healthcare financial data it would have scored higher review, but this was only a personal preference. In closing the instructor Curtis Norman knows SQL well, he as is human made some syntax errors, but I was very impressed with how quickly he was able to identify the errors, and correct them to make the code run perfectly. Very impressive.

Really enjoyed this course. Working with a large dataset is one of the things that excited me most about the course. I thought the questions at the end were quite hard for someone who has little to no experience in healthcare data specifically but regardless of that, working with the data was enjoyable. All the lectures were concise and the tutor was easy to understand. Would recommend this course.

Exceptional. The most comprehensive course I have taken out of 4 other purchased/subscribed courses. The videos were informative and detailed, handouts were supplemented the program well, and the instructor coded with us live and troubleshooted issues as he had ambiguity, typos, and errors so we could see coding in action. If you want to learn SQL, first get a basic understanding (Alex the Analyst on Youtube). Then purchase this course and complete all the modules. Thank you Curtis for sharing you knowledge and time.

This course taught things clearly. The 15 practice questions at the end were challenging and interesting. I took a 3rd year $1300 university course at the University of Toronto Jan-Mar 2022 and that only covered 75% of the basics. And it wasn't taught with enough examples and explanation so I didn't feel strong with even basic SQL. This course was $20, 1.5% of the price, and actually made me feel proficient. It's quite practical too as in the last section that has 15 practice questions, you work with a schema composed of 8 different tables with many columns. It's a star schema, 1 table has keys pointing to 7 other tables, how tables may be structured in the real world, and are in healthcare I believe. My friend took a popular udemy sql course by Jose Portilla called partly "The Complete SQL Bootcamp 2022:..." with much more students. I showed him the last section from this course, and he said it was impressive on how this had complex, realistic data to practice on unlike his. Glad I stumbled upon this on reddit somehow when looking for course recommendations. I now have a solid foundation to learn advanced SQL off. Very well taught and high quality education.

Although I haven't been able to be as consistent with this course as I would have liked, Curtis has been really great at thoroughly explaining the material and he makes it pretty easy to grasp. I have really enjoyed this course so far, and I want to continue to a higher level course once I complete this one.
