Great course overall, good solid introduction to server admin in Linux, I learned a lot of useful admin tricks from the videos. Some of the lesson videos are pretty out of date and e.g. apache configuration has changed a lot since they were made. But for someone like me who needed a quick overview of principles, this was fine.

Great primer. it gives you ideas and you can investigate them. you get a list of the commands teacher uses and you can follow it easily only minor irritation is the music

A good minimal course, most of the basic actions are presented. As a step-by-step beginner's guide it is OK. Of course, it is not enough to work with web hosting as it is. In my opinion, it would be nice to include some typical simple tasks and issues related to any web hosting: how to organize access of client users to their sites, which important security measures should be taken in any case if you are running Apache on a Linux machine staying in public access, some basic tips for web server performance control etc. In fact, web server tuning and security were left out of scope. Meanwhile, such measures should be taken immediately after setting the main components on, otherwise the system starts to work being vulnerable and semi-functional. I don't like much the idea to talk about both Apache and Nginx in short simple course for beginners, as well as rising there the subject of WordPress installation (a "simple" popular applications which actually can make lots of headache in the real life). However, the author did a great work, and the course is obviously useful for very beginners. Thanks a lot!

The course is very practical and understandable. It makes otherwise complicated things easy for you. I needed to set up my server - I did it with no difficulty using this course. I also appreciate the knowledge and skills of the course facilitator. Thank you very much, Aleksey!

Course is straight-forward, and gets you where you want to be at the end. A slight explanation about the fact that mysql and mariadb are two options, not usually both installed would help the more novice people understand that they should not be doing both on the same install. Overall, very helpful in learning how to install the LAMP stack on a linux system.

Great course if you are beginning to work with servers. The course instructor assumes that you already know the basics of using the terminal and the course doesn't teach you about apache modules or anything like that, which is what i was going for, but its a great starting point for the basics. Recommended that you get a domain name for your experimental website on the server and you have a static ip. If you don't have a linux or mac computer, use a virtual box with the linux os installed.

I've found this to be an excellent overview of the topic: getting servers setup on several different hosting environments. Aleksey presents the information clearly and provides enough information to get started with the preliminary setup of an environment that is fully functional. I've also found him to be very responsive to questions. The course is well worth doing.

Author in easy and comprehensive manner describes all necessary steps of linux server setup from a scratch. I would suggest this course for those who is searching for understandable and easy-to-use step-by-step instructions of linux server environment installation. Thank you, Aleksey. I look forward to your new courses.

Instructor does a great job of going over how to setup a VPS instance on Amazon EC2 and Digital Ocean. After installing Apache / PHP / MySQL on the Debian distribution, he also shows how to setup virtual hosts to host multiple sites on 1 server and even shows you how to setup WordPress. Windows users are shown how to use Putty to ssh into their virtual server while Mac users are shown how to use the Terminal app. It's also great that after each video, he lists the commands in a text file for you to copy paste into your terminal. As long as you're not scared of the terminal, this is as good an introduction as you're going to get to DIY host sites in the cloud.
