Course Description
C++ is a large and complex language, but it gives programmers complete freedom when it comes to management of dynamic memory. This allows the programmers to allocate memory and manipulate it at runtime. That is why C++ is still a favorite language for high performance applications in various domains such as gaming, telecom, finance, aerospace, etc.
However, it requires programmers to take great care while using dynamic memory, such as releasing acquired memory, taking care not to overstep memory boundary, etc. Otherwise, it could lead to problems such as dangling pointers, memory corruption, memory leaks, etc.
This course will help you overcome all these problem by leveraging the excellent features that Visual Studio provides. It has a rich set of functions provided by the C/C++ runtime heap library. These functions can help detect memory leaks, overflows, etc. You'll learn how to use these functions effectively and make your programs bug-free.
In this course, you'll start with the basics of heap memory management and understand C & C++ allocation functions/operators in depth. You'll also learn how to effectively use them to avoid memory problems. Afterwards, you'll learn about the Visual Studio heap library functions and understand how to use them in your code.
By the end of this course, you'll have a deep understanding of dynamic memory management. You'll be able to use CRT heap functions effectively to detect & isolate memory problems. You'll also implement the Visual Studio functions so that they can be used with any C++ compiler.
Note:This course requires Visual Studio 2017 or a higher version.

Civil engineer who found his calling in software development. Never worked as a Civil engineer, jumped at the first chance and started worked in C++ & Visual C++ two decades ago. He used to teach these technologies on the side and enjoyed it so much, he switched completely to training delivery. Currently, trains software professionals in software companies in different technologies, such as Modern C++, Advanced C++, STL, Design Patterns, Android, Unity, Linux, etc. Very passionate about teaching and has trained more than 100,000 software professionals in a teaching career spanning more than two decades. An avid gamer, currently trying his hand with game development in Unity & Unreal. Has a few Android games & applications to his credit, including one on Design Patterns.
Only thing he likes more than C++ is Modern C++.

The course is extremely informative. But it would have been better if after each module their would have been hands-on assignments to understand every feature in detail.

a few years ago, I had a programming test for a job I really wanted but I wasn't up to par with what they were looking for -- unfortunately (just due to my education and job history) I don't have a strong foundation in memory management (most of the tools I use handle this low level stuff for us so it's never been a priority) and this was ultimately the major gap in the test after watching this course (and implementing the custom check systems), I was able to go back, actually evaluate the code for memory problems (I had to go back to my old computers hard drive to find it), and was able to resolve all of the lingering memory issues! that had been lingering on my mind for years and I finally have some closure there and, as it so happens, the company is offering the same role again (I'm considering reapplying!)

Excellent explanation on how to debug in Visual Studio and with Windows, as well as helpful tips for using a custom detector in Linux. Takes you through the though process of debugging memory leaks, which was very helpful for intuition. The intentional errors shows the iterative process of programming which is a nice touch. Nice, straight forward course with little fluff.

I thought he'd teach us debugging. Every error he's encountered, he introduced on purpose and went straight to it to fix it. This is only helpful IF YOU ALREADY KNOW WHERE YOUR ERRORS ARE. I am still waiting to be taught how to debug a problem I DIDN'T INTRODUCE ON PURPOSE. It may get better, but I'm halfway through and you keep asking me for a review. Edit: I've continued on. He does start to show you how to find errors you didn't already know existed but, though this class claims to help debug C and C++, 90% of the content is C++ only.

Excellent course. A good mix of theory and practical. I would like to see another course that delves deeper on Visual Studio's built in tools for debugging and monitoring performance.

I like the absolutely self-contained explanations and see the direct focus to the title of the course immediately from video 1. The very clear explanation of the storage segments have been an amazing startup of the course which I have not yet seen anywhere else! Having finished the course, the clear and self-containing explanations continued. The reasons for just 4 stars: I know that preparing teaching videos is hard work but I really recommend revision of some video cuts (current misfits and repetitions) and thereby deleting those bugs that have been corrected 'on the fly' (and do not seem to be intentional/pedagogical bugs of the memory topic). Explaining the details with self-written checkers is amazing. But a sneak peak to existing libraries and tools (beyond winCRT, VS) as a kick-out session could not hurt. But this is my opinion.

The quality of the course is superb. The instructor teaches in depth about memory management and how to find leaks and corruption in the heap. Well above my expectations and super professionally written software. I haven't seen many instructors use header files. This is so far the closest that I can get to write clear and professional C++ code. I hope one day the instructor creates a course with a project so we can see all in action and how all the pieces fit together. I wish the instructor all the best!

I found this to be an interesting course, a good clear introduction to memory allocation in C++ applications and then large amounts of detailed information about tracking down and resolving memory leaks and corruptions, using both the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools and various supporting functions supplied alongside it. Although some of the information and techniques were familiar to me there was still plenty of new information and having it clearly presented in one place along with a number of example techniques was very useful. I have already tried a few of the techniques and successfully tracked down some minor memory leaks.

I have enjoyed the tutorial thus far but it's not clear in the description that to get the most out of this tutorial you have to be developing on a windows PC. It says Visual Studio 2017 or earlier is required, which I have on my Mac which I do most of my development on, however it does not have a C++ compiler. I have still learned a lot following a long in Xcode (where I do my C++ dev when I'm on a Mac) but a lot of this is very specific to visual studio code on windows. After finishing the course on my PC it sufficiently covers the topic. The instuctor is very good about answering questions which I appreciate.

This course is perfect! It perfectly covers the topic and video production quality is unexpectedly good. The part I like the most is that it explains simply, without unnecessary definitions but with many examples and counter examples.
