Learn by Building Real Apps
This is a project-based course.
Rather than spending the entire course watching lectures about Swift syntax, you will use what you learn to build applications.
The projects start simply and gradually become more sophisticated. Along the way, you will encounter real problems that iOS developers need to solve: managing state, navigating between screens, working with APIs, storing data, adapting layouts to different devices, handling gestures, localizing applications, and structuring larger projects.
Some of the major projects include:
Greetings App — multilingual SwiftUI app supporting light/dark mode, dynamic language changes, iPhone, iPad, Mac, localization, animations, and AppStorage
Calculator App — responsive interface supporting light and dark mode
Weather App — API integration using URLSession, JSON, async/await, and MVVM
Chinese Counting App — API calls, multilingual text-to-speech, modern navigation, MVVM, iPhone, iPad, and visionOS
Activity Tracker — SwiftData combined with charts, including pie and donut charts
Alarm App — local notifications, gestures, localization, and a more complex UI
Conway's Game of Life — Canvas, Timeline, MVVM, Mac development, drag and drop, and a pattern editor
Tip Calculator — responsive layouts, multiple devices, localization, and custom shapes
Flashcards App — interactive gestures including dragging
Mystic Puzzle — a 15-tile puzzle with animations, gestures, JSON persistence, and a Mac-based shape editor
There are also many smaller projects and focused examples covering individual SwiftUI and iOS development techniques.
Swift Programming
We begin with the Swift language so that you understand the code you will be writing throughout the course.
Topics include:
Variables and constants
Arrays and dictionaries
Structs and enums
Tuples
Loops and control flow
guard
Functions
Closures
Higher-order functions
Functional programming
Raw strings
Coding exercises
If you already know how to program, you can move through these sections quickly.
SwiftUI Fundamentals
You will learn the building blocks of modern SwiftUI development, including:
VStack, HStack, and ZStack
Grids and lists
Text and text fields
Buttons
Frames and alignment
Navigation
Tab views
Gradients and mesh gradients
Images and AsyncImage
Light and dark mode
Tinted app icons
Responsive layouts
Multiple screen sizes
iPhone, iPad, and Mac interfaces
One of the goals of the course is to get you building a real application early, rather than making you wait until the end of the introductory material.
Data Flow and MVVM
Data flow is one of the most important concepts to understand when developing with SwiftUI.
You will work with:
@State
@Binding
Observation
@Observable
@Bindable
Observable objects
Application state
MVVM
The course then uses MVVM throughout many of the larger applications, giving you practical experience with this common architecture.
Networking and Async/Await
Modern applications frequently need to communicate with web services.
You will learn how to:
Make API requests with URLSession
Decode JSON
Use async/await
Work with Swift concurrency
Refresh network content
Display remote data in SwiftUI
Combine networking with MVVM
The Weather App and Chinese Counting App provide practical examples of these techniques.
SwiftData and Core Data
Learn Apple's technologies for storing data locally.
You will work with:
SwiftData
Core Data
JSON persistence
Persistent application state
MVVM with persistence

He really going in a very logical learning order, and actually gives small tips along the way with the shortcuts, consistently mentioning them to be able to remember them.

Very great instruction. He starts clearly with a simple use case and walks step by step in a way where I understand what's happening. The pace is slow and steady. Other mobile app courses I'm just rapidly copying what's on screen and don't understand it. Also, no errors in the code so far (ex: up to date with the latest Swift). Thanks!

Instructor was nice, and went step by step instead of rushing straight into creating a advanced app, unlike some courses like Robert Petras. Went step by step, and really explained the concepts really well. Overall, this is the best course for learning swift and ios develpment for me

Many things have been covered in this course. Each thing is explained in very detailed manner and in flow. I would recommend to learn from this course.

He is a great guy, the course is up to date and you get answers to your questions within 1 day and he explains in simple English. My English is terrible but I can understand.

Great course! I love his passion and professionalism, and I’ve learned a lot. However, some topics take too long—for example, nearly an hour just for data flow, and another hour for images and async image handling and others.

Very good. The course is a bit outdated, but only from the middle onwards. I learned a lot. Ron is a good teacher. The sound could be better. What I'm missing here is a bigger project, a real scenario project, maybe a online shop. But still 5 stars.

The start is a little rough for a beginner but this is the learning course. I am at section 7 and things start to make sense. I do appreciate that the course is new and Ron is teaching us to pay attention to the methods that will be deprecated. Also I like that we are coding the views and not use the storyboards that are not so readable. Really enjoying the course and follow along with Ron. I hope that he will add more content (in-app purchase) but I am glad I bought this course since it is very valuable. Thanks Ron!

Thank you for putting together this course. I very much enjoyed your course and your teaching style. After taking the course I feel I generally have a good foundation to code in Swift/SwiftUI. I do have a few comments for possible improvement : - You occasionally change your mind part way through a coding example, and then later decide to undo and go back to your original train of thought. It seems that you are possibly working your way through the example as you go. I find it's exactly how it goes in real life, but it can be sometimes confusing while trying to learn. - Sometimes (234 as example) code area is zoomed in and you can't see the reset of XCode but instructor is doing things offscreen (Rearranging Folder Structure). Makes it difficult to follow. There are a few modules where you are zoomed in a little too close. - Later examples are from much earlier and much less polished. The Tip Calculator and Brevis examples actually do more harm than good. - Content isn't fully converted over to iOS17. Some of the earlier episodes are partially converted, but not in later episodes. It makes it difficult to reinforce the new iOS17 techniques. ie. UIScreen.main vs using Geometry Reader. Localization and OnChange are other example. - Consider changing the order of your examples. You cover some fundaments in later courses that would have been more helpful earlier. Your Alarm App really should be the last App. - More detail on SwiftData (and coreData) is required. - Consider explaining the relationship between @State and @Binding earlier. Best example of the relationship is in the tip calculator which is late in the course.

This course at the time writing this review, seems to be the most up to date on the website. It’s always being updated and the author seems to quickly reply to questions. And there is so much content. Such good value for money. Definitely 5 stars. Very worth buying. Yet I have 2 criticisms, on quite a few occasions new concepts and code have been written in the apps without any explaination of what it does, even though i started from the beginning but this code wasn’t talked about before. But.. i have noticed that many more videos have been added recently which may explain some of this code. My only other little critic is that it seems that sometimes it’s the first time he has written some of the code because he gets a little stuck or mistypes the code to later correct. Which some people might find appealing. Anyway, still I think the before course on this app at the moment and I’ve bought several of them.
