Our take

Based on the ratings of 25 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in July 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

Nikoloz Sanakoevi's course is a short run through the D language: 53 lectures in seven sections, about five hours in total. It covers variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and object oriented programming, then ends with a quick look at other parts of the language. It is pitched at complete beginners, but the reviews suggest it fits people who already code in something else. About 14,000 students have enrolled, and it was last updated in July 2026.

Opinions are mixed. Of 25 ratings, nine are five stars, but six are one or two stars, and the average is 3.7. The complaints line up. One reviewer says the teacher goes over subjects fast and skips detail. Another calls many topics superficial, with abstract examples and variable names like a, b, c, d. A third wanted the reasoning behind small things, such as the space before %s in readf. One reviewer does like the pace and the fast overview.

The syllabus lists no quizzes or coding exercises, so practice is up to the student. As a quick tour of D for someone who can already program, it does the job and costs little time. Complete beginners should probably pick a gentler first language, or expect to look things up elsewhere as they go.

Best forProgrammers who already know another language and want a quick first look at D syntax and OOP.
Skip it ifYou have never coded before and want each line explained in detail, with the reasoning behind it.

Pros

  • Short at about five hours, so a working tour of D fits in a weekend
  • Seven clear sections run from variables and loops through to OOP
  • Pace suits people who already know another language, reviewers say
  • Refreshed in July 2026, so the material is recent

Cons

  • Many topics stay superficial and the reasoning behind details is skipped
  • Examples use throwaway names like a, b, c, d and feel abstract
  • No quizzes or coding exercises in the syllabus, so practice is on you
I think the teacher could add extra materials for studying, but he gets the job done and if you're coming from another language, you'll be up to speed real quick.

Listed as beginner, but reviewers say it works best if you already know basic programming from another language.

You can get a 360 degree view of the possibilities of D. However, many topics are treated too superficially and some things are simply assumed in the examples without addressing them first. In my opinion, it is only suitable for beginners in D if you already have programming knowledge in at least one other language. The examples are too abstract and have no practical relevance (examples: variable names a b c d, class names cn sn, ...)

By Arthur Lopes on 5/9/2025

The teacher goes over subjects really fast and even though he says he will "get you up to speed" on programming, he doesn't go into detail. I'd say this course is better if you already have a basic notion of programming, as I did. If you don't, search for a better language for beginners. The pacing is quite good for my liking, criticism aside. I think the teacher could add extra materials for studying, but he gets the job done and if you're coming from another language, you'll be up to speed real quick.

Very clear and thorough explanations

By Juan Osobampo on 6/15/2023

A paced and well explained course.

By Joyjit Kundu on 10/13/2022

It is better to explain the details and the reasoning behind something, I feel. For instance, why to put a space before %s in readf. Unless such intricacies are explained, a learner do not really get to know the language.

The author breaks down the content well for beginners
