Course Description
UPDATED January 2026
A MUST DO course, especially if you want to paint landscapes.
I am often asked how to paint believable skies and clouds. Follow these simple techniques and you will soon find it a lot easier.
Follow me as I take you from a clear blue summer sky, to fluffy cloud, winter skies, stormy skies and sunsets.
If there is one thing that ruins clouds is the lack of forethought about the brush marks. Use the right brush and be mindful of how you are putting the paint on or lifting it off.
There will be a sky for every painting.
What are the main things you will learn ?
How to work very wet.
How to work quickly
Learn how to lift off paint being conscious of the negative marks you make.
Master blending different colors.
Learn to observe.
Get to grips with these techniques and you will find it will really make a big difference to your landscape painting.

Here's a bit about me.
I originally trained as a graphic artist, and then followed a different career path working in the national media, travel and public relations in both London and Paris.
Cutting a long story very short I am now living in the south of France, near the Spanish border. I teach people how to paint with watercolours in classes and when they come on holidays.
As you can see I also teach via the internet and have my own online painting school called Painting with Nicola. If you want to know more about that, message me for details.
KEEP safe and Keep painting. Love Nicola

I sam just starting this course so I will have more to share later. A question?....are your paints in tubes initially or are they paint blocks?

I enjoyed the course, but I would have preferred more in depth development of the clouds. I've used tissues before to get some good effects, but, getting a realistic looking cloud seems to elude me.

Interesting technique.. bit short on instruction time for what was covered. Liked it.

I learned very little from this course. The quality of the video is not good. The materials are sub standard, i.e. reusing paper, and working through even when there has been a problem with the sheet. Even if the content was more valuable it would be impossible to work along with the video as a list of required materials is never given beforehand.

I love learning how to correct mistakes. Painting clouds has been a stumbling block to me, but I think I have a better understanding about the secrets to painting different kinds of clouds.

Loved her subjects but couldn't achieve the colour applications used which was a bit frustrating!

How wonderful that I’m home bound on a rainy day. The sun just broke so I went out to study the sky. After watching this last video, I’m itching to grab my paints and give it a go.

Great content so far, but having trouble with playback. Sometimes stops for no reason.
