Julia Krist's A1 German course is built for people who know no German at all. It runs about 13 hours over 84 lectures, starting with the alphabet and pronunciation, then moving through the nominative, accusative, dative, modal verbs and a first look at the Perfekt. Vocabulary chapters on family, food, clothing and directions sit between the grammar lessons. Seven AI role plays let learners practice short conversations, and four videos cover the format of the official A1 exam. About 27,500 students have joined, and the last update was in September 2026.

Reviewers praise the teaching most. They call her explanations clear, patient and well organized, and one likes that she points out where English and German overlap. Two say they passed A1 after taking it, and one has signed up for her A2 course. The complaints are smaller. One reviewer says pronunciation is the weak spot, because words in the animated videos are said once or twice, quickly. Another says her video window hides part of the slides. Two lower-rated reviewers found the course harder or faster than they expected. Still, 4,640 of 5,175 ratings are four or five stars.

The course is paid, but it packs in 45 quizzes, homework PDFs, two exams and the exam-format videos, which is a lot of practice material for one A1 course. I feel that the course offers very interesting topics and the downloadable material is very good. However, I think that since German is a language with a strong emphasis on pronunciation, that is what is missing. Many words are not very clear in terms of how they are pronounced because they are only pronounced once or twice, and very quickly, which doesn’t allow students to analyze each individual sound. Therefore, especially in the animated videos, the pronunciation is too fast. Sometimes, it doesn’t allow learners to properly imitate the sounds.

Her English is great, makes the lessons easier to understand. She even tells us the similarities between English and German, making learning German easier as you can 'convert' some already present English skills into German. This course is worth every penny.

The German class I took was an excellent experience. Julia is very knowledgeable, patient, and engaging. She taught in a very easy way, and her teaching style is also very good. Before purchasing the course, I read some bad reviews about her style of teaching, but I didn't find them to be correct. Her teaching style is absolutely faultless, and I found her class enjoyable and interactive. One of the best things about the class was the variety of topics covered, and the amount of materials she provided surprised me and was very helpful. Starts with the basics just like expected. The teacher is very good at explaining all the details and has no German accent when speaking in English but excellent German pronunciation when teaching it. She also emphasises all the nuances of Germanic language.

The videos seem to run by the concepts too quickly. Slowing it down with more examples, and adding activities in between would be a good idea. Otherwise, it's quite good. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone wishing to learn the basics of German.
