Getting Started With Apache Cassandra (Udemy.com)

The course is outdated, however still one of the better Cassandra course to provide a holistic view and foundation concept on Cassandra. To all those who need help: 1. I download virtualbox(https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) and ubuntu(https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop). 2. Set up your ubuntu in virtualbox (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5MhydijWmc) . Set your network settings to Attached to > Bridged Adaptor ". Under Advanced > Promiscuous mode > Allow All. 3. Within Ubuntu, itself do the following command to install cassandra properly. 3.1 : sudo apt-get update 3.2 : sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-utils 3.3 : sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk -y 3.4 sudo apt install apt-transport-https 3.5 echo "deb https://downloads.apache.org/cassandra/debian 311x main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cassandra.sources.list 3.6 sudo apt install curl 3.7 curl https://downloads.apache.org/cassandra/KEYS | sudo apt-key add - 3.8 sudo apt-get update 3.9 sudo apt-key adv --keyserver pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-key A278B781FE4B2BDA 3.10 sudo apt-get install cassandra 3.11 sudo apt install net-tools 3.12 sudo chown -R $USER:$GROUP /var/lib/cassandra 3.13 sudo chown -R $USER:$GROUP /var/log/cassandra 4. cassandra.yaml can be found in /etc/cassandra/cassandra.yaml 5. data can be found in /var/lib/cassandra 6. log can be found in /var/log/cassandra The only thing I am unable to do is to nodetool command on a specific vm from a different vm. To overcome that, I conduct the nodetool command on the actual vm itself.

Use Spring boot to create the project , you course needs update .

Excellent explanations

I think the content and concept of this course is very good. Quite technical information is presented by the teacher, in an easy understandable manner. (first half part for now.) One can follow easily! Only drawback is, it is for an older version of Cassandra and has not been updated for the topics and documentation or reference links. I did follow the course and picked / researched commands with respect to latest Cassandra 3.11 using official documentation from Devstax, quite possible but takes a bit of juggling around if one is trying out hands on labs!

Yes, It is an excellent presentation, understood many things, but if she had covered more, that would have been good.

Nice course to start with cassandra . Good content and also explained the best way it can be. Also the Host's accent was very good and interactive .

Mixed feelings. The explanations are clear and it covers well general topics, but the contents are outdated - Cassandra 2, when 4 is already out over 2 years -, so some things have obviously changed since then. Also, very focused on manual command line tools. The Java code section on how to access the data was plain, simple and contained blatant CQL injection patterns, which is not nice for learning people. Still, useful to get an overall view of what Cassandra is.
