Course Description

Learn Gua Sha Massage Techniques, Traditional Gua Sha & Modern Therapeutic Applications

Learn practical Gua Sha Massage techniques with Michael Eric Everson, Manual Osteopath, Registered Massage Therapist, and Yoga Teacher.

This comprehensive Online Gua Sha Massage Course introduces the traditional practice of Gua Sha and teaches you how to incorporate Gua Sha tools and techniques into a modern massage therapy session.

You’ll explore the history and traditional theory of Gua Sha while developing practical hands-on skills for working with the body using specialized Gua Sha tools.

What Is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is a traditional East Asian technique that involves applying a tool to the skin using specific strokes and pressure.

Gua Sha has traditionally been associated with Chinese medicine and theories involving Qi, meridians, and the flow of energy through the body.

Today, Gua Sha techniques are also used in a variety of massage, bodywork, wellness, and facial massage settings.

This course focuses on the practical application of Gua Sha massage and how to integrate Gua Sha techniques into your existing hands-on practice.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout this Gua Sha Massage course, you’ll learn:

  • What Gua Sha is and how it is traditionally practiced

  • The history and traditional origins of Gua Sha

  • Traditional Chinese medicine concepts associated with Gua Sha

  • Gua Sha massage techniques and tool handling

  • How to incorporate Gua Sha into a massage treatment

  • How Gua Sha can be combined with other massage techniques

  • Practical applications for common areas of muscular tension and discomfort

Learn Practical Gua Sha Massage Techniques

Rather than focusing only on theory, this course emphasizes hands-on Gua Sha Massage techniques and their application within a massage treatment.

You’ll learn how to handle Gua Sha tools, work systematically through different areas of the body, and incorporate scraping and gliding techniques into a broader massage session.

The course is designed to help massage therapists and bodywork professionals understand where Gua Sha can fit within their existing treatment approach.

Traditional Gua Sha & Modern Massage

Gua Sha has a long history within traditional East Asian medicine. In traditional practice, it is associated with concepts such as Qi and meridian pathways.

Modern practitioners may incorporate Gua Sha tools into massage and bodywork for different purposes, including working with areas of muscular tension, relaxation, and general wellness.

This course presents the traditional background while focusing on practical massage applications that can be incorporated into contemporary hands-on practice.

so far so good. talking is direct, short, to the point - easy to follow. The tools being shown and used - it's clear which to use and why. the "nerdy" explanation is great - i'll be googling later to get the "layman's" explanation so i can visualize and understand what it all means. it was a bit technical there.

It is important to know the why and the how so my clients can take healing to the next level and do it as they can at home. As a LMT having them do their homework makes my therapy more productive and healing lasts longer. I enjoyed this deeper dive into a modality that saves my hands.

By Amanda Pearo on 2/3/2026

This course was very easy to follow along with. It outlined the basic strategies for gua sha techniques and how to apply them to different regions of the body to target specific issues. I love that it included a guided treatment for the person taking the course so you can feel and experiment with the pressure on your own body.

By Udemy User on 4/16/2025

I thought it was a very good introduction to techniques for most of the body but I felt that some body areas were less covered like the feet and ankles and hands and wrists. Overall very good., though

I think I have taken almost all of Mark's courses. Highly recommend him as an educator, his knowledge is amazing. He keeps things light hearted but you will also learn a lot. You cannot go wrong taking any of his courses.

A few things would have helped, such as what is the angle that is best for the tool. Different angles create different results? Exactly how long should the stroke be? Different lengths for different body parts or conditions? Creating an appendix with the definition of some of the terminology used in the videos. I have done cupping, Gua Sha, moxa, and acupressure (as well as many others) for many years. I think you did a good job for people who are not knowledgeable and for those who are intermediate in the skill of Gua Sha. Thanks!

Yes it was a great match as I do gua sha on clients and this helped me have an in depth learning of more…especially with meridians and acupressure points. Captioning was a bit off with spelling of many anatomy words and some other simple words that I had to figure it out ….

I fain new information about ways we can use gua sha and the benefits. I also enjoyed doing self-care with the gua sha. One suggestion is to put up file with pics as well so it will be easier to learn. Thank you Michael for your dedication to this work.

By Marissa Jacobus on 2/27/2023

This course was super informative and also had amazing demonstrations for each use and section of the body. As a therapist, I really appreciated how you not only demonstrated the techniques clearly but also explained how and why to use the tools.

By Arlene Fleming on 5/2/2022

Really engaging instructor, and easy to watch and follow videos. I am both an RMT and R.Ac. by trade, and was great for learning some additional moves to add to my current gua sha treatments. Highly recommend for bodyworkers!
