IBM Cognos Framework Manager (Udemy.com)

As a Cognos Analytics professional reviewing concept for a job interview, I can tell you that his explanations of concepts is accurate, straight forward and what you can expect if you are ever tasked with building packages for reporting.

No explanation of which data source we can import to FM, what are the DB the instructor is using? how to configure new one? are those ODBC connections we have to setup? and what parameters do we need? Can we also use other sources like a TM1 cube? There are many things missing

I expected the instructor to start from scratch and show first how different layers are created but rather he seem to be working with already created layers.

Excellent sessions. Many grey areas were explained in easy ways. Some areas / topics like dimensions, determinants, data types, applications in Cognos reports at the same time as examples and versioning etc. should also be explained.

Very rapid overview of the product, some sections felt rushed, particularly the early ones where the concepts were illustrated. I feel I have a basic understanding of the product but couldn't go and effectively use the product.

I have experience in other BI tools (i.e. Oracle Business Intelligence OBIEE) and I need to replace someone on a project that uses Cognos. This was a very good introduction to using the Framework Manager and I feel more confident now than before in joining this new project. My suggestions would to be 1) to discuss Active Directory security in more detail with examples, 2) to discuss filtering using variables/parameters as opposed to only hard coded literals. 3) upgrade the course to the current version of Cognos.

Well, this course brought very good knowledge about Framework Manager, I've had some experience working with FM in the past, but I didn't know many things that were explained into this course that are very important for improving the query response time, other important topics such as security and how to apply filters inside the data, previous to publish the package, definitelly a very good guide for FM development, I'm totally sure I will be checking these videos when developing new solutions.

Very superficial course. I am an experienced FM Modeler and looking for advanced concept. I finished the course in about an hour and did not learn anything new. I was looking for deep dive into some concepts like how to choose cardinality in joins based on data in DB etc.

Not following the lines of set-up as that of standard COGNOS. I completed a COGNOS course a month ago and just wanted a refresh system; with this approach being different, it is not as useful as it might have been. Early section explanations were based on a model not set up as per the 'Build New Project' section that followed. Would have been better if it had been a completed model as per the later development exercise.

I' am new to Cognos, been a BI and DB Developer for years and this training helps a lot to understand how cognos connects to data sources, transform data and how to make it available to the end user. Really helpfull training!!!
