Our take
Based on the ratings of 9,187 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2019. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is Jose Portilla's walkthrough of Plotly and Dash, built for Python users who want to turn charts into interactive dashboards. It runs 9.7 hours over 69 lectures. A short NumPy and pandas refresher comes first, then a long block on Plotly chart types, then Dash layouts, callbacks, a milestone project, live updating and Heroku deployment. More than 52,000 students have enrolled. The syllabus shows no quizzes or graded coding exercises, so it suits people who are happy to code along and already know basic Python.
Reviewers like the teaching. They call it easy to follow, well structured, and explained line by line. About 5,600 of 9,187 ratings are five stars, for a 4.5 average. The complaints are consistent. The course was last updated in September 2019, and several reviewers say the final sections break: pandas.Panel is deprecated, the flightradar24 iFrame no longer works, and app authorization is outdated. One reviewer says the pace rushes near the end. Others want multi-page apps, Bootstrap layouts and real-life projects. One reports unanswered questions.
It is a solid first pass at Dash, not a finished toolkit. Expect to fix installs and swap out a few packages, and to look elsewhere for multi-page apps and styling. Reviewers say it leaves them wanting to go deeper, which is a fair result for a course that is friendlier than its intermediate label suggests. We'd recommend it if you know basic Python and can debug version problems. It is a worse fit if you want to follow along with zero friction.
Pros
- Reviewers say each step is explained line by line, with code-along examples that are easy to follow
- Plotly chart types come first, so the plotting basics are in place before Dash begins
- Goes all the way to live-updating data and deploying a dashboard on Heroku
- A code-along milestone project and section exercises give you something to practice on
Cons
- Last updated in 2019; reviewers hit deprecated packages and broken code in the last sections
- No multi-page apps or Bootstrap layouts, so the dashboards stay basic and single-page
- Some reviewers report a rushed pace late on and slow answers to support questions
So easy to follow. Incremental steps, useful exercises. Loving this.
Labeled intermediate, but basic Python is enough. Expect to debug installs and old package versions.

Well thought out course with many interesting topics. It does not reach a particularly advanced level of knowledge, but still leaves the desire to delve deeper and create dashboards worthy of the name. I didn't like the discussion on flightradar24 so the relevant lesson remains only on paper as the teacher has not found an alternative solution to using the platform which has become paid.

Fantastic course. I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it. But I would have enjoyed it more if there were some more advanced dashboard examples, such as one that creates and updates a simple database. I also would have liked to see some integration with bootstrap for styling. But no ding on the score. 5/5 from me!

Thus far I have complete about 25 courses on this platform. While other courses were less appealing in delivery and content, this course failed me in that it IS THE ONLY COURSE where I AM NOT ABLE TO PRACTICE based on a question asking HOW TO ADJUST MY CURRENT ENVIRONMENT to move forward (with screenshots). For over FIVE (5) days now, I have not received a response TO ANY QUESTIONS. In short, I sense that my question was not read. This is the ONLY course where my question could not be understood. ENGLISH is my FIRST language. Perhaps my organization needs to perform a health check.

I didn't expect it to be that good, I am surprised! Very good stuff, sir. Plotly appears to be 'poor man's BI' but the live updates section was extremely interesting. I wish this section was somewhat bigger with more info on live streams - say, BQ data or even streaming from Google Cloud but well, for the price ;) Thanks!

Jose's courses are insightful, challenging, and a great way to be introduced to various Python concepts. I enjoyed taking this course which allows you to start applying concepts to your own data sets using the Plotly and Dash libraries. He and his team are always responsive to the Q&A board. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to create beautiful customized dashboards.

This course was absolutely brilliant. Jose Portilla is an amazing instructor and I have no complaints so far. I also took the Python Bootcamp: zero to hero course and the quality remains very steady. After this course, I now feel confident enough to take on any graphing problem and implement it with Plotly/Dash. The great thing about these libraries is that you have so many different features to choose from and once you get a hang of the library's syntactic style, you can produce dashboards, which would otherwise require months of learning JavaScript and its advanced frameworks, in a matter of hours. I would heavily recommend this course for anyone interested in Data Science, as this would be a very valuable skill for effective data visualization.

Another very well structured course by Jose Portilla. Starting with the basic concepts, the course quickly escalates into plotly and dash in depth. There is also a guidebook complementing the videos. Very good pace for all levels to my view, leaving also some open threads for further research on other related topics. Great use of the time. I highly recommend it to get a flexible toolbox for representing graphically static and dynamic data.

Awesome course. Thank you Jose. The course teaches how to install/use Plotly and Dash from creating simple plots to simple functional dashboards in Python. And finally, how to host a dashboard free online to share the link. The lectures also walk through the Plotly docs to find code snippets for features say dropdown menu. The course saved me a ton of time by not having to search the docs to put the very first dashboard together and also get it online. I liked the teaching style where each code is explained in the lecture while it is typed/run on the screen.

Very good course. Excellent presentation skills. Vast amount of material. You aren't going to be a plotly or Dash pro immediately after taking this course, but you will have the knowledge you need to become a pro, and you will have saved yourself countless hours of wandering through the plotly/Dash documentation. Highly recommended.
