The highlights of this course for me include: important concepts about synths, which I immediately recognized how they apply to hardware synths; how different parameters affect the resulting sound; and the broad view gained from the different subjects covered (equipment/software/concepts/terminology/etc). Generally speaking: I highly recommend any course by J. He has a talent for both covering important information, and making it interesting with the occasional historical anecdote. Even introductory courses have practical information which instills confidence to experiment. I'm looking forward to the rest of J's courses!

I get the feeling that a couple of pieces of background information are not exactly accurate. For instance he jumps from Edison all the way to cassette tapes, before jumping back to the invention of audiotape by the Nazis (which he's not exactly sure of). He also leaves out any information about the invention of the underlying digital theory by Claude Shannon.

Frustrating sound issues in video 3. I hope that when recording songs you don't suddenly turn the input volume down halfway through. Video 3 became barely audible even with my Macbook volume turned to maximum. How about doing a sound check before you start? Video 3 seems like more of a podcast - no photos of the equipment you are describing - impossible to picture what you're talking about. Also could have edited out all the coughs and throat clearing. For Day 3 why not wait until your studio was ready before recording? Imagine writing film music, handing it to your client saying 'really sorry about the background noise, my studio wasn't finished yet'. It's really disrespectful. I'm afraid you lost me with the warping. If I was teaching this I would create some sound and then demonstrate what it sounds like before and after warping. I would have also liked you to concentrate on using free software since I just bought this course to see whether I wanted to play around a bit. I am not going to be spending any money on software. My Mac comes with free Garageband and it would have been good to know just how much of what you did in the Day 3 stuff could have been done just with Garageband. What saved this course for me was the section on synthesising. Great!

J. Allen covers the material well, it is dynamic and engaging. I do like how the material is presented in both video format and the short summaries of the focus of each lesson. However, and this may be due to technical reasons, the sharpness/focus of the software and what he is presenting is a little difficult to distinguish as it appears this was a different location/studio presentation than his Ableton course. The echo is only mildly distracting - although this may be unavoidable. Other than that, well done.

sort of a rambling monologue about technology and terminology to get started. not exactly captivating. I'm sure Jason is very knowledgeable and look forward to getting into some actual meat for producing music. This could be much more engaging if the sounds within the DAW could be heard. Seeing a visual change of a waveform is not as informative as hearing it as well.

J is knowledgeable about all facets of electronic music. I don't question that. However, it takes a certain level of commitment and a high degree of focus to remain fully engaged in these lectures. They are much longer than the average successful courses chapters. Delivery is the only caveat to this gold mine of information.

I've played an instrument back in grade school, but electronic music is a different world altogether. This was a great quick intro to this other world, and I'm excited to take Jason's other music courses! The videos (except for the bonus videos) are capped at 720p, so it's hard to read the detail on his screen, but Jason does a great job at acknowledging this and he uses both visual and audio cues to help.

My favorites - Section 2 (MIDI), Section 3 (Synthesis) and Section 4 (bonus content). Awesome tutorials with in-depth coverage and going that extra-mile. Keep it coming... Would you be able to create courses on Roland JD-Xi Digital/Analog cross-over synthesizer with Cubasis, NanoStudio, Logic, etc on iPad/Mac?

Speaking from the perspective of someone with no knowledge of music beyond say middle school band I would have to give a big thumbs up here. Very easy to digest overview of an extremely foreign topic. I'd definately recommend to any beginner looking to get an initial understanding of the inner-workings of EDM.
