It is an excellent starting point for beginners. Having qualified as a music production technician in 2014 and having purchased this course for a general refresh after more than ten years, I must say it is well-structured and provides a very effective overview, albeit at a basic level.

This was so cool. Dr J Anthony Allen is a very groovy doctor who besides his PhD and Ableton certification gives clear and very usefull information how DAW and Sound Design works. It´s a lot of basic stuff that will help you to focus on the most important thing and keep your workflow good. I did this course to see if other courses from this instructor would be interesting, but i´m sure they will. I am having a blast hearing him talk about music, making music and his deep IDM tracks convince me he can combine theory and practic situations, go from the essence to the more complex levels.

Great class. Bought on sale and for the money has been worth every cent. The instructor, Jason, communicates clearly and in a positive, upbeat tone. He appears genuine and approachable in his videos, with no crafted media personality distracting you from learning. It felt to me as if this is how he would present to college students in a lecture, or how he would conversate in person if you caught him in a music store or coffee shop. As for the course content, it definitely covers a lot of topics at a relatively surface level (which he says as much during the videos). It does not cover recording techniques, mixing, mastering, releasing, etc. New students/beginners will not walk away from this course, make some new tracks with no addt'l study/courses, and become music production experts. That said, the absolute best part of this course, at least for me, is that Jason covers mostly what you need to know to get started with no addt'l fluff, he encourages you to continue learning and exploring music, AND (most importantly) I found myself CONSTANTLY pausing the videos and either putting into practice what we were covering OR researching other sources online for addt'l info. As a result, I learned an incredible amount about my DAW (Studio One 6) and its capabilities even though Jason uses Ableton Live throughout the course. This may not be the best approach to finish the course quickly (and for people who struggle with distraction you have to be very careful to not let yourself get too sidetracked), but I generally completed a section of the course a day (sometimes more or less) while also fiddling in my DAW and researching some topics/features further and finished in roughly 2 weeks. Also, his advice at the end of the course to separate composition from sound design is confirmed by many sources to be music production GOLD advice. So, 5 stars from me. Luckily, I purchased many of his Udemy courses and look forward to starting the next one. Thanks, Jason. I appreciate your effort here.

As someone who plays music but had no previous idea about DAWs, MIDI, and music production, I think that this course is giving me a strong base to start doing my own projects. The concepts are laid out nicely and Jason's explanations go to the point. I'm enjoying it!

I had a great time and learned a lot of new information. For beginners, this is an excellent course to understand how things work in the field of music production. I will definitely take other courses from Mr. Jason Allen. He explains the material amazingly well, and when you look at him, you can't help but be infected with a love for music.

By Syptime PTY LTD on 1/1/2024

I love how the concepts are explained and I love the materials. However, the coach could've really spent some time with editing. There's lots of blanks where the couch is thinking, and even though I've played the whole course o 1.75 speed, I still get frustrated over the blank times. Otherwise thank you, it's a really great course and I'd definitely recommend

It's still a massive five-stars for me! Jason talked about history, the Science behind DAWs and Digital Music, and of course, the actual "how to use a DAW 101" lessons. I can tell he loves what he is doing because he really emphasizes on them. Rather than just teaching us straight "how to use this and that", he goes beyond that and also teaches us things that would otherwise be arguably... well, not unnecessary, but I would think many who took this course just really wanted to learn how to use a DAW and make music right then and there. You get the point. Anyways, I got this course during the Black Friday Sale, and oh boy, this has been way beyond my expectations, and I'm really glad this ended up being my first course on Udemy.

By Theodore Schwamm on 8/5/2022

This was a great, in-depth course that was a perfect match for me, as a fairly experienced musician looking to learn more about the tools available in DAWs. Not having Ableton, some of the videos were less useful for me, but overall I still learned a lot and feel much more aware of the tools which DAWs present to you. I'm glad I took this course!

By Charlene Lin on 7/12/2022

Amazing class. Jason is full of enthusiasm about what he's teaching and really gives it all to the students. I've learned so much about the concept of music production as well as the detailed techniques, little tricks that I can apply quickly. Much appreciated!

By Ankit on 1/3/2022

Superb course! Jason has the best skills and info about production. All his videos are packed with valuable info, and I love his attitude of "progressive overloading", and not rushing! I am so excited to get through , make my track, and move onto Jason's deep dives into music theory and composition scores! { My goal is to compose for games and movies mostly)
