Course Description

ISO/IEC 42001 is the first international standard for an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS). It defines the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a management system for the responsible development, provision and use of AI — and it applies to any organization that develops, deploys or uses AI-based products or services, in any industry.

This course gives you a complete, practical understanding of ISO/IEC 42001: what the standard requires, how the AIMS works, and how organizations achieve compliance and certification.

Who this course is for

  • Professionals preparing for roles in AI governance, AI compliance or AI risk management

  • Consultants and implementers building an AIMS for their organization or clients

  • Auditors extending their skills from ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 27001 or other management system standards to ISO/IEC 42001

  • Managers, developers and data professionals who need to understand what responsible AI means in operational terms.

The requirements of the standard, clause by clause

The course follows the structure of ISO/IEC 42001 and walks you through the requirements in clauses 4 to 10:

  • Context of the organization

  • Leadership

  • Planning

  • Support

  • Operation

  • Performance evaluation

  • Improvement

A deep dive into all 38 Annex A controls

Each of the 38 controls in Annex A of ISO/IEC 42001 is explained in a dedicated video — what the standard requires and how compliance can be demonstrated in real-world scenarios. The controls are grouped into 9 categories:

  • Policies related to AI

  • Internal organization

  • Resources for AI systems

  • AI system impact assessment

  • AI system life cycle

  • Data for AI systems

  • Information for interested parties

  • Use of AI systems

  • Third-party and customer relationships

Together, these controls cover the full scope of AI governance: data quality and provenance, transparency and explainability, communication with interested parties, and the impact of AI systems on individuals and society.

From theory to practice

You'll learn how to connect the requirements of ISO/IEC 42001 to everyday practice, with detailed examples of how organizations develop, deploy and manage AI systems responsibly. We break down the key components of an AIMS:

  • AI risk assessments

  • AI system impact assessments

  • The Statement of Applicability

  • AI policies and objectives

  • Internal audits

  • Management reviews

  • Handling nonconformities

Why ISO/IEC 42001 matters for your career

AI regulation and governance frameworks — including the EU AI Act — are making structured AI management a requirement rather than an option. Organizations pursuing ISO/IEC 42001 certification need people who understand the standard, and that demand is growing faster than the supply of qualified professionals.

Enroll today to gain a complete, actionable understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 — and position yourself at the forefront of responsible AI.

Cristian Vlad Lupa

Who am I?
I’ve been working in the field of standards, auditing, and certification since the early 2000s. Over the years, I’ve contributed to hundreds of projects across various industries and disciplines. Today, I work with RIGCERT, an accredited certification body based in Europe.

What do I do?
I translate the knowledge and best practices from international standards and recognized compliance frameworks into clear, practical language — to help individuals and organizations improve.

How do I teach?

I design and record every course myself. You will be learning from a human instructor with real-world auditing experience — not from AI-generated content. Since launching my first course in 2016, my focus has always been on extracting the core ideas from complex subjects and delivering them in a clear, concise format. I only build and publish courses that I myself would take.

What are my interests?
My work spans quality management, information security, data protection and privacy, artificial intelligence governance, risk management, business continuity, occupational health and safety, environmental management, energy management, compliance, food safety, and others.

Yes. The presenter explains in details every point in the clause , sub-clause and Annex A controls, providing good guidance for AIMS implementation.

The word oversight has two meaning, Supervision and unintentional mistake. A better suggestion is not to use oversight in many places and stick to words that do not have a dual meaning else it sometimes gets confusing. Hopefully you will review the videos to analyze and improve upon this suggestion.

We have ISO27001 so there's an instant familiarity with the concepts but I like the pace so far and the generic observations help set a scene for the course

The course was a good match for me, but I don't work well with a lecture-only approach. I like that there was a downloadable slide set, but I like to have detailed reading material.

Just finished a few chapters, i find it very clear and structured. Would like more real world examples but i really appreciate the course. English pronunciation could be improved :)

Se me hizo larguísimo... no sé si se pueda hacer más corto el curso

This course offers a thorough and comprehensive understanding of ISO 42001 AIMS requirements. The trainer provides clear and concise explanations of the standards. The training content is detailed, and the included audit checklist adds significant value. I highly recommend this course.

By Alberto Jimenez Mejia on 2/18/2026

Yes, is a good match. I am specialist on iQM systems (under ISO-9001, IATF-16949, ISO-14001, AS9001 and ISO-45001) and worked through several organizations with the enhancement of the system. ISO-42001 is interesting and my main task will be the evolvement of IT/AI among other computing-based processes. The systems become agile and more flexible. Sounds very fascinating!

The course has a given me a clear understanding of the ISO/IEC 42001,Artificial intelligence management system and its adaptations and requirements. A very well comprehensive course. Thanks

By Michael Lenart on 2/16/2026

Yes. The content is delivered in a clear manner, and I like the "bite size" lessons that require just a few to several minutes each to complete. That makes it easy to commit to making regular progress. My only recommendation would be that at the end of the final lesson, when the instructor is reviewing the highlights of the topic being completed, it would be helpful to have a visual aid (a few bullet points, etc.) outlining what was covered in the Context clause, to go along with what the instructor verbally says.
